After lots of celebrations, and partying, I’m ready to go back to work. A short break in the sun was great and needed, but I’m happy to be home and enjoy Paris at its brightest. The Christmas lights are still up, and there are many special things to do here in January, like going skating on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. It’s free, by the way, and the perfect place to take a selfie with the steel lace of the tower in the background. It’s open till 10:30pm, but try, as I did, to get there at sunset. It’s magic. This is my double W issue, Winter/Women, so it’s all going to be about powerful girls, those who do their utmost to make us and our lives beautiful. They’re creative, entrepreneurial, daring, and they are my friends. Meet them in the pages to come. Hope ppy a H a way, e h t ne! y o b y d r n e A o ev t r 6. a 1 e 0 Y 2 w Ne is in r a P you in e e s I J [Jeanne ] Hotel Jeanne d’Arc Paris In keeping with its heritage, the interiors have recently been restored, the mirrors given a new shine and gilded frames and the walls received a coat of the finest powder grey paint. The Hotel Jeanne d’Arc is ready for the New Year, 2016. The Hotel Jeanne d’Arc lies in the heart of historic Paris, a classic piece of 18th century French architecture. A heavy stone façade, flowered balconies, and ornate lanterns that are still in use, it’s all there, the definition of charm and elegance. It is old Paris with comfort, an iconic landmark in a quiet street in the trendy Marais. M Margareth Halfon [Margareth] Founder Studio 78 Paris 1. How did you go from being a fashionista to becoming a cosmetics entrepreneur? I was lucky enough to be able to acquire a five-year experience as a Product Manager in cosmetics, more specifically working for various makeup brands (Guerlain, for the Terracotta and Météorites lines, as well as the Deborah Italia group for the Rouge Baiser and Deborah brands), and with other positions in fashion (Product Manager for accessories and children’s fashion at Sandro, Buyer/Merchandiser for a Parisian concept store, etc.). 2. Where did the idea for Studio 78 come from? As I was becoming increasingly allergic to traditional cosmetics, I was disappointed when I found out that, contrary to what already existed in skin treatment, there was no organic, convenient alternative for makeup that was fun and inspiring, and came in interesting colors. So the brand was first of all designed with a concern to pick up the codes of glamor of traditional names while working on the poly-sensoriality of the products (an innovative, pleasing, galenic, practical texture adapted to an urban life style, a fashionable color line that is also timeless, and a pleasant smell). Studio 78 Paris is first and foremost a wonderful makeup brand, but our consumers are also happy to discover that it is organic. 3. What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive? My days are really full, but there are two ritual activities that I will never sacrifice. I get up early enough to have the time to get ready before I wake up my daughter for school. I really like that moment that we share, the calm before the storm. The day that follows is always unpredictable, and I like it. As I am in charge of both marketing/development and sales, I don’t have time to get bored. Sometimes I am busy developing a new formula or a new color line, sometimes I am negotiating for the opening of a new outlet in France or abroad. The second ritual that I never sacrifice is in the evening, with my daughter again. She has asked me not to touch my phone between 6:30pm, when I come home, till 8:30pm when she goes to bed. We make the most of those two hours to tell each other about our day, eat dinner together, enjoy each other’s company. My second work day starts after 8:30pm when I have to call my clients in the US because of the time difference. 6. What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur? The most important thing that keeps me productive is my family. I really need to refuel by taking a pause, unwinding with them, reloading the batteries and cutting off from work. After that I can start all over again. 7. What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business? Please explain how. As the market is still very young, it is indispensable to know how to communicate. For a long time, I wrongly underestimated that essential aspect. This also applies to the social networks that can give you an unquestionable leverage for growth, notably in terms of recognition. So I have decided to get into them, and I must admit that it is rather fun. 4. How do you bring ideas to life? When I have an idea, I follow it to the end. I very rarely give up. So when I decide to start developing something, I do everything I can to make it a reality. We are in a very competitive environment, but basically we are all young entrepreneurs in this field and I sometimes ask indirect competitors for information. 5. What’s one trend that really excites you? For a few years I have seen several natural or organic makeup brands being created. It is challenging to be in the arena of a sector that is becoming rather competitive. It forces me to constantly question myself as to what I have to improve to remain in the race. As a result, I am constantly on my toes. T Teodora T. [Teodora] Model IMM Models | PS Models Munich 1. Your tan is perfect, where have you been? Regarding the design itself, my heart is drawn to the Italian designers, who I truly believe to be unparalleled in their elegance. Interior decorator Cyrus company Paris 1. Were you always interested in design? I have always loved beautiful interiors, especially when they have a personal signature and personality. That’s the most important in my opinion. 2. Your style has been described as quietly elegant. Do you see it that way? I do. Elegance lasts forever. 3. What makes a home happy? A happy home feels peaceful, comfortable and cozy to all and should reflect who you are inside. 4. Do you have any rules? Yes I do, but they are fairly simple guidelines. The most important rules to follow are those regarding color and best usage of space. For example, one room could look much smaller in size with an incorrect choice of furniture dimensions and color palette. 6. Rive Gauche or Rive Droite? Rive Gauche - specifically Saint-Germaindes-Prés - is my first love, but I must admit that other areas, such as Montorgueil or Le Marais, are also fascinatingly unique in their atmospheres. 7.
