In such a contemporary media-fuelled society as our own, relationships at a young age have become an all-round accepted facet of adolescence. Posting about it incessantly on Facebook however, regardless of how innocent it seems, is not healthy – and this is generally ignored. We’re accustomed to believe by romantic blockbuster clichés that publicised declarations of love validate or ‘prove’ feelings but if we reflect on it, this is not necessarily true. Surely I am not the only one who must laboriously scroll down pages of unfiltered teens boasting about their ‘boyfriends’/’girlfriends’ every day when I get home from school. Intimacy is central to every relationship; the personal chemistry and times you share with a friend forms the foundation of your union. It is interpersonal, it is exclusive, and above all, it is not to be advertised on Facebook. Advertising relationship statuses and feelings invites others to spectate and thus interfere, which can lead to jealousy, rumours and other social conflicts. But above all, it creates an unconscious divide between those in a relationship, and those not. Use the recent Valentines Day for instance; the reason why some many people were discouraged and down was because couples emphasised how they had each other, in turn making singles feel isolated, disjointed and to lose selfesteem. It’s not fair. I’m not criticizing or playing down anyone’s feelings, I’m just asking; is Facebook really the venue for that kind of emotional privacy? I’ll leave that up to you. Anon "This is a black widow spider! If you want to find out more about her, she has her own website..." (Insert laughter) "I just thought of a reason why it is really good to see all of you today...because if I couldn't I would be blind" "I used to be lots of fun...People mushroom because I was such a fun-guy" called me Think you can beat Mr Kingsford’s jokes? Submit your jokes to Jake Lemmer or Chontelle Wharton then keep a look out to see if yours gets published!
