President’s Message
Greeting fellow Niagara members,
As we draw 2013 to a close, I am reminded to be
thankful for all the things we all shared in this
past year. As we all know and experienced, this
past year was rather busy on many different levels. Thank you to the Board for their leadership,
thank you to all the event chairs for making all
the events flow smoothly and last but not least,
thank you to all the members who made all the events a huge success.
2014 is already off to a strong start with many events and occasions already being planned for. I encourage you to get involved and let us know
what you want your year to be like. Its part of the reason why we have
been so vibrant as a club these past few years. Our success doesn't happen
by accident. Help make it happen for 2014.
I would like to wish all of you a festive, safe and healthy Holiday Season,
and wishing each and everyone of you a productive and prosperous New
Year.
Cheers!
Rich

Editor’s Comments
I hope this finds all our members warm and enjoying the holiday
season. I’ve made a change in the Table of Contents Page for our
members to link directly to the corresponding page of the article.
I’m using this issue as a review of this activity-filled year and to
recognize some of the folks who make this club as great as it is. I
hope your trip down memory lane gets you looking forward to another year of Porsche related events. Please keep the articles and
ideas for new articles coming. After all, this is as much your
newsletter as it mine.

NRPCA Member Badges
If you are one of our newer members, or if you never attended an event
during which we gave out badges, you can now order one for yourself or
your family member. They are double-sided with the current NRPCA logo
and your name, plus a lanyard. We collect names of folks who would like
a badge. Once we hit at least 8 badges, an order will be placed. The
club covers the cost. Please contact [email protected] if you are
interested.

Volunteers for 2013
2013 NRPCA Volunteers
This has been such a fun year for the Niagara Region Porsche Club. We received
First Runner Up 2013 Region of the Year, Driver’s Education attendance has broken
records for the season, we reached an all time record in number of events and new
events, and donated in excess of $10,000 to charity. This would not have happened
if it weren’t for the fantastic volunteers we have.
So, thank you one and all, 2013 NRPCA volunteers!

Dr. Ron Kirshner Wins PCA Club Racing National
Championship
By Jim Tulloch
Niagara PCA member Ron Kirshner won the GTB2 Club Racing Championship for 2013. Ron
started participating with the Niagara Driver Education program 5 years ago and rapidly
moved up through the ranks to become an instructor in 2012.
Ron’s success can be attributed to his academic approach to driving and aggressive pursuit
of instruction. He was determined to both understand the physics of driving and successfully practice good driving techniques. He actively sought out instructors to work with him
in-car and was always asking questions.
Ron selected Ekstens Autoworks to prepare and maintain his car. Mark Eksten also supported Ron at the races. Congratulations to Ron and best wishes for continued success. You
earned it!! Thanks to Ron for the picture as well and here he is leading the pack.

2013 Charities
This year our club supported many great charities and causes with contributions totaling
over $10,000. Our first check was to the West Webster Fire Department Fund for the families of those first responders who were killed or injured in an attack on Christmas Eve. Our
club also donated to The Corner Place Arts Academy and sponsored a team for Tour de
Cure - American Diabetes Association .
Our Fall dinner winners were announced and are listed as following:
American Red Cross, Disaster Relief, Typhoon Appeal
✦ Lockport Salvation Army, designated for camperships to Camp Long Point - on behalf of
Hank and Sue Beamer
✦ Graycliff Conservancy Inc on behalf of Tom and Babs Lyons
✦ Flower City Habitat for Humanity on behalf of Sue and Chad Juby
✦ The Joel Ajavon Memorial Fund on behalf of Rich deAsis
In addition, our attendees were asked to name their favorite charities and then were chosen at random. These included the following:
✦
✦
✦
✦
✦
✦
Betty Jerabeck - East House
Linda Hertel - Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Rochester
David Clark - Patriot Guard of New York
Mark Eksten - Flower City Habitat for Humanity
Lavina Schuessler - Buffalo City Mission
Don Stephans - American Cancer Society
Finally, a large number of toys were also collected for the Sojourner House in Rochester,
NY. Thank you to everyone who donated!

A Look Back @ 2013
It was another great year for Porsche
Club related events, it’s hard to believe
all the varieties of activities after our
50th anniversary back in 2012. So here
we go, in no particular order. Thanks to
Tom Lyons for his winning photo for our
2013 photo contest.
Cars and Cooking
Hosted by Sue and Hank Beamer, this new event was a cooking class at the Canandaigua
Culinary Institute for 30 lucky wannabe chefs. We made up into groups of four and then
proceeded to put together a multi-course meal that we enjoyed at the end of the day. The
staff also paired wines
throughout the food
preparation and dinner presentation.
What a great way to
marry two passions,
Cars and Cooking.
WINTER 2014
Page 17
A Look Back @ 2013
Cars and Stars
Hosted by Sue Reesen and Chad Juby, we discovered a hidden gem in the Bristol Hills on a
beautiful afternoon and evening. Beginning with a pleasant drive to Bristol Harbour Golf
Course for dinner, we proceeded to the Mees Observatory and a lecture by volunteers. We
all got a chance to use mobile telescopes before going to the observatory and gazing at the
stars.
Cars, Goats and Cheese
Hosted by Tom and Pat Needel, this event merged a trip to the Finger Lakes region and a
visit to The Lively Run Goat Dairy for a facility tour and cheese tasting. Great Chevre!
Then on to The Americana Winery for a catered lunch and a spectacular view of Cayuga
Lake , followed by a wine tasting at the vineyard. What a great day.
WINTER 2014

Cars and Caves
Joe Prinzbach hosted this event. We had a great run
on wonderful curvy roads from Terry Hills to Lockport. We then had a fun and interesting tour of the
Lockport Locks, industrial ruins and
the Lockport "caves". The boat ride was fun, but
bring an umbrella because you can get drenched by
some water flow from the ceiling
Afterwards, Niagara paid for us to have ice cream
at Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream. They had an amazing choice of flavors. Thanks Joe for a great event!
Akron Picnic
Hosted by Mark Pelkey, this
annual event always seems
to have a fine turnout at
the Akron Falls Park.
WINTER 2014

Boynton House Tour
Hosted once again by owners
Jane Parker and Fran Cosentino,
this tour was to accommodate
those who couldn’t make it in
2012. The Frank Lloyd Wright designed home is a stunning example of the Prairie Style that was
popular in the early 20th century. Thanks to Jane for her showing of the details of the restoration and to Fran for his Cosentinis and Margaritas.
Cars & Trains
This new event was hosted by Joe Prinzbach and included a ride on the Arcade
to Attica Railroad train.

The Tail of the Dragon (North)
Rob Dean has made a few attempts to pull
off this weather dependent excursion and
the scheduled day finally cooperated. Lots
of curves and beautiful scenery make this
route perfect for Porsches.
Chili Run
This annual event was hosted by Rich
DeAsis and a host of support staff, in a
lodge at Letchworth Park. After a run
through back roads, the caravans stop at
various scenic vistas in the park before
settling in to great food.

Northern Adventure
Our Canadian friends,
the Orrs and Jensens
arranged for a weekend around St. Jacobs,
Ontario and the Amish
country. Activities included a visit to the
famous Dream Car
garage and the Restoration Design Shop.
Breakfast Run to Naples and Hammondsport
This breakfast run also combines a concourse with Finger Lakes PCA region in picturesque
Hammondsport.

Final Rochester Happy Hour for
2013
Caption from Rich DeAsis: Its really a shame
when one of our members can't find a proper car for the winter! Our snowy (thus far)
winter didn't seem to faze Jeff Thomas,
however, as he put on Pirelli ZottoZeros on
his newly acquired 2008 GT3! Quite an impressive sight when Jeff pulled in to a rather snowy parking lot at the Back Nine for
our recent Happy Hour. Gotta give Jeff
credit for wanting to drive his Porsche
through the winter. A GT3 no less. Anyone else out there enjoying their P-car all winter?
