“Serving Brunswick Youth Since 1990”
P.O. Box 275
Brunswick, Maine 04011
Subj: 2009 11U Maine State Championship Tournament
The Brunswick Cal Ripken Baseball League would like to welcome your 11U All-Star team to the 2009
11U Maine State Championship Tournament, which will be held at the Lishness Fields in Brunswick. A
Map to the Lishness Fields is provided on the attached sheet. Please be advised that there is heavy
construction going on between Gardiner & Topsham in the Southbound lane which is resulting in a
complete shutdown of I 295 S in that area. Alternate routes are required and extra travel time is expected.
The State Tournament is scheduled to start on Saturday, July 25th and, weather permitting, will conclude
by Wed, July 29th. The tournament format is double-elimination. All decisions regarding game
cancellations and rescheduling shall be made by the Tournament Directors.
The tournament schedule is attached as a separate file.
The Tournament Directors are Barry Jordan Maine State Commissioner and Dan & Becky Meggison
(Brunswick Cal Ripken Baseball) . See below for contact information. If, for whatever reason, your
district will not be sending a 11U team to participate in this tournament, please notify Barry Jordan as
well as Will Bennett soon as possible. Please e-mail Will Bennett ([email protected]) with the
contact information for your team’s Manager in the event it is necessary to change and/or cancel a game,
as well as any scheduling questions.
The Lishness fields are located on Pine Tree Rd, which is off of Riverview Dr from Jordan Ave in
Brunswick. The complex has two tournament fields, two all grass practice fields, one batting cage, a
restroom, and a concessions stand. As you enter the complex, the field closest to the parking lot is field
‘A’ and the field further away is field ‘B’. The Tournament fields have an all-dirt infield, raised pitching
mound, homerun fence, and open dugout areas. A pop up canopy may be desired to cover your dug out
area. The complex has a concession building serving the standard ballpark fare (hamburgers, hot dogs,
pizza, chips, water, sports drinks, soda, candy, etc.). Typically, the concession building will be open
approximately ½ hour before the first game of the day, and will close shortly after the last game of the
day.
In order to cover the cost of umpires, balls, trophies and other supplies needed to host this tournament,
gate admission fees will be charged as follows:
$3 per person per day (kids 12 and under are free)
$8 per person for tourney pass (good for all games)
The complex is provided with a single batting cage and 2 infield practice fields (Field ‘C’ & ‘D’). Batting
practice is NOT allowed on these fields. To ensure equal availability of these facilities, a schedule will be
provided. Please make sure your coaches are aware of the schedule. It will be enforced. Typically, each
team will be allowed to use the cage for batting practice while the other teams are allowed a field for
infield practice for approximately a ½ hour, and then switch for another ½ hour, prior to their games.
Below is a schedule of events that will be followed for every game:
•
30 minutes prior to start of game, visiting team has field for fielding practice for 10 minutes max.
•
As soon as visiting team is done, home team has field for fielding practice for 10 minutes
maximum.
•
Time permitting, team announcements will be made and the national anthem will be sung or
played.
•
Just prior to the start of each game, the umpire crew will briefly meet with each team’s manager
and coaches to discuss any special field rules.
•
Make sure your team’s batting lineup card is filled out and given to the other team’s score keeper,
the game’s official score keeper, the announcer (including pronunciations) and the home plate
umpire. Please make sure the lineup card includes the names and numbers of non-starters as well
as your team’s Protest Committee representative at the bottom of the lineup card and is provided
to the game’s official score keeper in a timely manner to ensure the game’s official score book is
ready for the start of the game.
All coaches participating in the State tournament must present themselves in a professional manner.
Coaches should have a team ball cap and matching uniform. Shirts or caps should all have the official Cal
Ripken league patch on them. Uniform pants are required at the State tournament level.
Lastly, please make sure your team comes with the required tournament documentation that must be
presented to the Tournament Director prior to its first game. The Tournament Director will be set up near
the concession stand. A summary of what is required for tournament documentation is outlined on the
following page titled Tournament Documentation.
We look forward to seeing your 11U teams and hope that your teams and fans have a great time at the
tournament.
Best Regards,
Will Bennett
