By using ‘My concern,’ public comments - concerns and compliments - can be sent anonymously, or people can request a response by supplying us with their contact information. We know that learning from our patients’ experiences is an important way to create quality improvement. ‘Thank you’ to my colleagues and community partners I would like to take this opportunity to convey my thanks and appreciation to board members, volunteers, staff, and community partners for their compassion, friendship, and support over the past twelve-and-a-half years at West Parry Sound Health Centre. I've had the privilege of working with many across our system, on capital projects, clinical IT networks, as well as educational and employment subsidies for clinical and support staff. Close to my heart is the engagement with community service partners and our First Nation communities. I have been touched deeply by telephone conversations and emails thanking me for what I have been able to accomplish. During my retirement I will continue to promote our community and to work on a number of regional projects that include support for health care. We all know the challenges we face, but I know many can be overcome through continued compassion and perseverance by everyone at West Parry Sound Health Centre. It is with this note that I say, "see you later" - in Ojibway tradition - not "goodbye!” Thanks and take care. This award recognizes the leadership of citizens from northeastern communities who are helping to build strong local health care systems. Similar to her own career’s transition Here’s some interesting information regarding our local participation in the Run/ Walk for a Cure, taking place in Bracebridge, October 6. We have a display (and a draw) at Parry Sound Family Physicians. A $2 donation gets you one ballot for the draw and a $5 donation gets you three ballots. The two prize baskets (each with a pampering theme) go to one winner. I also have a container ready for Bras Across the Bridge. If anyone has any bras they no from 1986 as PHARA’s secretary/ bookkeeper, to her appointment as its Executive Director in 1993, Alice has experienced many health care system changes. Alice has been involved in PHARA’s three housing projects, and ensured that supportive housing has been an integral part of each one. “Health care should be available for people when needed,” Alice says about her philosophy of care. “In order for this to happen, it means supporting clients/patients as they move across the continuum of care. All partners in the delivery of services must work together toward the common goal of providing the best care possible at the right time and place.” Alice says that health care should focus more on the needs of our growing seniors’ population, which currently stands at 19 percent of the northeast’s population, and will grow to 30 percent in the next two decades. To read more visit online at www.nelhin.on.ca longer want, they can decorate (or not) and drop them off at the office, including a $2 donation for the bra to be hung from the bridge in Bracebridge on the day of the run. Decoration does not have to be elaborate. They can be decorated in memory of someone, can just say Run for a Cure, or something similar. Registration deadline is Sept. 20 as t-shirts have to be ordered. We’re hoping to get a least 100 participants for Corrine’s Team this year and our goal is to raise $15,000.
