Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man
Recorded at Sadler Wells Theatre, London in
2015
A sensational new ballet from the internationally acclaimed
choreographer Matthew Bourne, The Car Man is loosely based
on Bizet’s popular opera (Carmen) and has one of the most
thrilling and instantly recognisable scores in classical music,
brilliantly arranged by Terry Davies.
The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes
a greasy garage-diner in 60s America where the dreams and
passions of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a
handsome stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the
inhabitants are driven into a spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and
revenge.
Brilliant design, lighting and Bourne’s vivid storytelling combine
to create a powerful vision of small-town America.

GALLERY
Hayley Reynolds - ‘Celebration of the Arts’
This vibrant exhibition by artist Hayley Reynolds promises to be
an explosion of colour and texture. Hayley captures local views
using a mixture of media including Venetian plaster and acrylic.
The exhibition showcases the artist’s versatility as it includes
work in a variety of media and styles.
Thursday 26 May - Wednesday 15 June
Patrick Dunn - ‘Abstract Designs’
This series of work is an adventure into experimental shape and
colour. Though imaginatively developed, the scenes are initially
taken from life with subject matter including interiors and
landscapes. The chosen media are gouache and acrylic, ideal for
the ‘edginess’ of such work.
Thursday 16 June - Wednesday 6 July
Janet James - ‘Reflection’
An exhibition celebrating the beauty of our lakes, rivers and
countryside as the artist conveys her emotional response to
landscapes within her paintings. The work stretches the breadth
of the United Kingdom, from the Cornish coastline to the wild
and remote islands of Scotland.
Thursday 7 - Saturday 30 July
Lloyd Canning - ‘Changing Perceptions’
Drawing influence from his own experiences, self-taught artist
Lloyd Canning explores the possibility of extra-terrestrial life in
his out-of-this world collection of acrylics. Lloyd has been painting
since the age of three and has had commissions for book and
album covers from all across the globe.
Friday 5 - Wednesday 24 August
John Milsom - ‘Land, Sea & Air’
Local artist John Milsom’s paintings and drawings reflect his
interest in landscapes which he captures in a variety of mediums.
John is a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists and has also
included a selection of naval aircraft studies in the exhibition.

Philippa Day - ‘Wearable Works of Art’
Philippa creates unique collections of bags and purses using a
textural, colour-rich palette of silks, fine leather, vintage buttons,
fancy ribbons, rich velvets and tweeds. She has built her
reputation around high-quality design, detailing and finishing,
and combines colour and texture in her textiles treats which
delight both the eye and soul!
Thursday 23 June – Saturday 30 July
Hazel Morris & Karen Lilley - ‘Reflections’
Jeweller Hazel Morris and Glass Maker Karen Lilley embrace the
challenge of working with reflective materials whilst also
maintaining smooth, sharp lines. Their collections incorporate
layers, textures and colours. Whilst Hazel draws inspiration from
Anglo-Saxon designs, Karen is influenced by age old glassworking traditions such as trailing and feathering. All pieces are
one-offs and both artists work to commission.
