In the
race
to create top-notch, in-your-face
ultra-clean car audio systems, winning isn’t
enough. Pushing the limits is what
separates champions from the ordinary.
The MTX Car Audio products
are engineered with true champion spirit. MTX amplifiers were
the very first amplifiers to be certified by the technical wizards in
the Autosound 2000 Test Labs.
Ever since they were introduced,
they’ve won hands down in every
comparison of performance versus price. (Ha! We laugh in the
face of the status quo!) And MTX
products have been winning
AutoSound Grand Prix Product of
the Year honors all through the
90’s.
That’s why, when we are ready
for product development advice,
we go to the experts – IASCA
and world champions. The winners, who dominate the car audio
competition scene. They talk. We
listen. And the results are going
to blow you away. High performance mono-block amplifiers.
Subwoofers that’ll dare you to
hurt them. Designed with the
latest in engineering software
programs. Very cool.
To make sure that every MTX
amplifier meets or exceeds its
specifications, we run like a zillion
tests before they ever make it out
the door.
And just to show you how
serious MTX is about going
beyond the ordinary, we put Tshirt or a cap inside every
Thunder or Blue Thunder amplifier. (Now how cool is that!)
Three different lines of amplifiers, all made in MTX factories in
USA. Easy to say it, much more difficult to do it. Some of you will
probably ask himself: “why?”. Read this small guide, and you will
understand it. You will see how carefully matched these amplifiers
are to your varying requirements for power and features.
One of the first
things you’ll
notice about
the new Blue
Thunder amplifiers is how cool
they look. You see,
we have quite a legend
to uphold in these products.
AutoSound Grand Prix
Product of the Year for 6
consecutive years.
Dominance in car audio competitions (Blue Thunder has
been the amp of choice in the MTX Thunder Force
Mustang, that tours the country on a “trophy round up” in
IASCA competitions). We’re manifesting the championship
legend in the look of these amps. They are born to win in
every competition.
The Thunder high-power, low noise amplifiers are fully loaded. Advanced computerized protection circuitry.

Very cool.
The dream of
every car
audio enthusiast.
The new Road Thunder amplifiers were designed with the
same technology approach
that has earned MTX amplifiers awards, honors and testimonials from reviewers
worldwide. Made for one purpose: to make it possible for
everyone to make the first

1. Heatsink—New aggressive but
sleek look heatsink. A drop-dead gorgeous, tinted-gray heatsink with an
elegant, semi-gloss finish. And the
bright blue LED completes the whole
package (we’ve had some complaints
that the LED is too bright -- our response is, “if it’s too bright, you’re too
old!).
2. The Circuit Board— We start with a raw circuit board, and
add each of the components. Many components are inserted
using a high-speed auto-insertion machine, for consistency
of manufacture and high reliability of the product. Larger
parts are inserted by one of our trained technicians. To be
sure your amplifier delivers the power you demand, we use
only the finest components. Like low impedance, high power
transformers, for cooler operation. And we use a patented
PWM MOSFET Switching Power Supply, for excellent sonic
reproduction. The larger output MOSFETS ensure reliability
and performance. On the Blue Thunder Amplifier Circuit
Board we even use a new technique that actually “floods” the
circuit board with copper, for substantially higher current
capability, lower distortion, and increased reliability.
3. The Birth Certificate – each of the Blue Thunder amplifiers
is tested to make sure it meets or exceeds its rated specifications, and our technicians sign the Certified Performance
Certificate.

Thunder Amplifiers
Five Channel
Amplifier
Want a high-end car audio system, but don’t
really need a trunk full of amps? It’s time to
streamline. The new Thunder5400X has
five, count ‘em, five channels.
MADE
IN THE
USA
Four Channel
Amplifier
The Thunder4300X 4-channel amplifiers offers
enhanced system design flexibility.
Four of the channels feature an
18dB/octave Butterworth
defeatable and continuously variable crossover (50Hz
- 200Hz). The front channel
has a 40x frequency multiplier (50-200Hz/2000-8000Hz).
The fifth channel is a dedicated, class D subwoofer
channel, with an 18 dB/octave
low-pass crossover
(Butterworth, continuously
variable, 50-200Hz).
Class D is an important classification in the amplifier world
(and what a zany world it is).
Class D means, quite simply, more power, used more
efficiently. Your power goes
to driving speakers, not to
heating up the heat sink (if you
want excess heat, build a fire.)
The 5400 also features the EBC
Port (external bass control) for
fast bass adjustment.
The front and rear crossovers are 18dB/octave,
continuously variable between 50Hz and 200Hz high pass or
low pass, giving you several options in setting up your system.

The new symmetrical power supply allows for better thermal distribution.
The “sum output” jacks on this four-channel amplifier provide
a line level summed output of the right front/right rear and left
front/left rear input signals. This output is typically used to
drive an external subwoofer amplifier.

THUNDER225HO
Two Channel
Amplifiers
What it Takes
to Win
The Thunder225HO is a
low impedance, HighOutput amplifier. It’s what
you need when you want
power, and lots of it. With
individual gain controls for
left and right, and 2 sets of
RCA connectors, this
amplifier has one characteristic that sets it apart from
others in its class – it delivers extremely clean
sonic performance.
USA
THUNDER2150X
18dB/octave, continuously variable crossover (on
Thunder250X, Thunder275X, Thunder2150X, and
Thunder2300X) with reverse outputs. For example, when you have
the crossover set to low-pass, you have a high-pass output. This makes
it much easier to connect multi-amplifer systems.
Symmetrical power-supply (on Thunder2150X and Thunder2300X) distributes the heat evenly across the amplifier. This makes it more reliable
(meaning, it plays louder).
Individual Gain Controls to center up the soundstage.
Giant MOSFETS (we’re not exaggerating – they’re huge). A larger MOSFET means power supply stability, and a more reliable product.
8 Volt RMS Input - This large signal capability allows for better integration with high voltage output source units, increased dynamic range, and
better Signal-to-Noise ratio in the audio system.
Continuously Adjustable Thunder EQ bass boost, centered at 40Hz. To
severely boost the low-end, and the attention you get from other drivers
and innocent bystanders.
Unique Split Shield bottom plate design, reduces electro-magnetic
interference, to improve signal-to-noise ratio and reduce distortion. This
design is so hot, we patented it so others can’t leech off our genius.

Large Signal
Crossovers
Common
Technology Platform
We called the LSX1 and LSX2 “Large Signal Crossvers” because of their
ability to accept up to an 8 volt RMS input signal for integration with
high voltage output source units or line drivers. This means noise-free
performance.
18 dB/octave slope for greater protection to midranges and tweeters by
decreasing overexcursion at low frequencies.
Continuously adjustable crossover points, for extreme flexibility.
Wire harnesses for speaker level input allow easier integration with
OEM systems.
ISO-FEET™ mounting platform eliminates chassis-to-chassis ground
loops.
1 Meg Ohm Isolation maintained between the Signal Ground and
Power Supply Ground (eliminates ground loop noise)
External Bass Control (EBC) port connects to optional dash-mountable
EBC unit, for external bass control.
Buffered output stage with 100 ohm output impedance, to drive multiple amplifiers with ease.
LSX1 Large Signal Crossover (2-Way)
Continuously Variable Low and High Pass Outputs between 30-400Hz High
Pass, and 20-200 Hz Low Pass.
LSB1
Our one-of-a-kind MTX LSB1, (a.k.a. “the Black Box”) is a dual function,
multi-purpose signal and remote turn-on processor. One of its primary
functions is to allow you to easily switch between two different subwoofer amplifier signal paths, for either sound quality listening or SPL listening. (“LS” refers to Large Signal, or the ability of the device to accept
up to a 10 volt RMS input signal).
Note: Unlike the infamous Black Box that tells what happens in a
plane crash, the only thing the LBS1 will tell about you is that
you have superior taste in audio equipment.
Sound Quality Listening
The low noise (Signal-to-Noise ratio better than 105 dB) attenuator is
typically used for the sound quality testing portion of an IASCA competition, or for listening preferences that emphasize sonic reproduction.
SPL Listening
The SPL setting routes the signal through a high pass filter. This allows
you to boost a narrow band of frequencies (typically at the “in-car resonance” of the system, or the port tuning frequency of a vented system)
to play obscenely loud without damaging your woofers.
Turn-on/Turn-off Delay
This feature allows you to delay turn-on of amplifiers and turn-off of
signal processors to prevent transient noise. Or, it can delay turn-on/turnoff of a system’s moving parts. The LSB-1 also features our patented Split
Shield™ bottom plate design and the MTX ISO-FEET™ non-conductive
mounting feet to prevent chassis-to-chassis ground loops (parent
#5,521,792).
LSX2 Large Signal Crossover
(2-Channel 3-Way, or 4-Channel 2-Way)
EBC
Dual High Pass Outputs. The front is continuously adjustable on a scale of
either 30-400 Hz or 600-8000 Hz, depending on the setting of the multiplier switch. Rear High Pass is continuously variable from 30-400 Hz. Low
Pass is continuously variable from 20-200Hz.
Front and rear low impedance inputs so you can add to an existing
factory stereo system and keep the factory front to rear fader.
Phase reversal switch (180˚) for greater flexibility in system integration.
The External Bass
Control (EBC) can be
wired directly to the
LSX Crossovers, and
to certain Thunder
amplifier models.

piece.
The Congruent edge technology on the gasket/surround helps
the speaker handle the demands placed on it.
Physical structure allows for a 2 1/2” peak-to-peak travel. That
eliminates the possibility of the spider bottoming out.
Constructed to handle up to 1500 watts total power.
Black polypropylene cone, with an optimal surface area that
allows more speakers to fit in the vehicle—for more cabin
pressurization and higher SPL potential.
Frequency response of 50-60Hz—you won’t be playin’ any
Yanni through these bad boys.

Why will the winners choose
Thunder 7000?
Quite simply, winners will choose Thunder7000 because
when it comes to winning, there’s no limit to how low MTX
will go – and we mean that in the best sense.
WOOF.
Thunder7000 subwoofers are like wolves in sheeps’ clothing. They innocently slip into your smallest sealed enclosure without taking up a whole lot of trunk space, but turn
them on and they give deep, loud, snarling bass that
threatens to rip your face off.
Hot Isn’t Always Cool.
Asymmetrical Linear Drive technology, used throughout
the Thunder series, promises high output with low distortion. And these subs are packed with features to help dissipate heat (repeat: “Overheated speakers are NOT our
friends”). They’ve got a rugged die cast frame, an enormous magnet structure (102 ounces), and a 2.5” hightemperature, 4-layer voice coil (8-layer on the 15”). If you
didn’t know, more copper means better thermal
power handling. (For example, the T7158 has 475 feet of
copper.) All these features add to the cool factor – literally.

One of the biggest challenges in spider design is to maximize the linear region of the speaker’s movement. We performed extensive Finite Element Analysis (high-tech testing) on the spider and found that the best design was a
“five roll” spider design. We call it Computer Optimized
Progressive Roll spider (COPR for short).

Superior Performance
When Space is Really Tight.
MTX introduces a clever mix of leading edge technology
(including MTX’s Asymmetrical Linear Drive System). These
new subwoofers were designed to play DEEP, LOW, BASS in
a variety of enclosures: sealed, vented or bandpass. For
example, the 8” will play in a sealed enclosure as small as
.25 cu foot. With 4, 8, or 12 ohm impedance options, the installation possibilites are virtually endless.
Extreme Power Handling Levels
Oversized magnet structure, a four-layer voice coil and black
Kapton voice coil formers keep these subwoofers ready and
eager to play.
Acoustically Stable
for accurate Sonic Reproduction
Black, polyether foam surrounds with paper pulp cone. Gold
plated speaker connectors offer secure connections. The
black EPDM gasket makes a tight seal when rear mounted,
and a cosmetic nicety when front mounted.
Sleek yet Rugged Looks
Black Spider, with black plated front plate, black plate and
pole piece. Folded window basket is stronger, more durable,
and unique in appearance. The thermal formed dustcap features an understated embossed MTX logo.

Component
Systems
In competition or daily
use, you want sound reproduction as close as possible to the
original recordings.
That’s why Thunder5000 components are specially designed
to enhance the realism of the
music (we’re serious about
sound, ya know. It’s our motto).
The extended, vented pole
piece provides a symmetrical
magnetic field and enables
higher power handling.
Matched crossover components feature a steep high
pass crossover slope with PTC
tweeter protection T54S and
T55S –
12 dB/octave high pass
T56S –18dB high pass and 6dB
low pass.
The 1” soft dome tweeter
with neodymium magnet
provides improved frequency
response (better sound) with a
small magnet, so it fits in its
space. And, Ferrofluid keeps
them cool.
A shallow mounting depth
on the midrange speakers
allows greater installing flexibility, which is really important.

Tri-Sub™
Enclosure
The T510X3 is a three woofer
Tri-Sub trapezoid bass enclosure
that conforms to vehicle seat
back angles, making the most
out of available space. The TriSub fits virtually all hatchbacks,
and is a perfect fit for the new
Camaros and Firebirds. With
total power handling of up to
1500 watts, it’ll take whatever
you give (and probably ask for
more if it could speak).
Single-Sub
Wedge
Enclosures
The T510 and T512 are
single-sub wedge enclosures with a small sealed enclosure design,
for deep, low bass. 70
degree trapezoidal shape
makes the most efficient
use of available space. A
4 ohm mono design
maximizes the
output capability of your
amplifiers.

Subwoofers
Superior Power Handling
The finest amplifiers deserve to be paired
with superior quality subwoofers and component systems. Thunder3000 subwoofers
feature the same Asymmetrical Linear
Drive System, common to all Thunder
Loudspeakers (the flat progressive spider,
combined with the extended, vented pole
piece). We’ve added some other touches to
make sure these speakers perform way,
way, past your expectations. The Voice Coil
is wound on a Black Kapton former for
high power handling. The strontium ferrite
magnet yields a highly efficient speaker
(more efficient means better use of your
amplifier power).

Designing separate components is one of the more interesting
challenges in today’s Car Audio. They have to be easy to fit everywhere, and they have to provide a sound that is warm, aggressive, full of appeal, dynamic. This is the reason why here, at MTX,
we studied and developped this new range particularly oriented
to the European cars.
New models, a complete new line of 4”, 5” and 6.1/4” separate
components.
The Din standard baskets allow these separate components to
easily fit in all the European cars.
The polypropylene cone on the woofer is higly durable, resistant to damaging UV rays and improves bass performances.
The woofer magnet is made of Barium Ferrite, ensuring the
maximum energy transfer.
The Capton voice coil former provides high efficiency and
extraordinary power handling.
The 3/4” dome tweeter (1/2” on the 4”) offers the smoothest
high frequency response (those highs will come through crystal
clear).

Coaxial
A coaxial is very often perceived as a basic speaker. Here, at MTX,
we have a different opinion. An American coax has to be different,
has to be designed and engineered respecting the same concepts
of all the other products. Even when it is specially built in an
European Din standard basket, to allow an easy fit everywhere.
And your music will be full, clear and more accurate.
