March Newsletter 2016
MOPAR MUSCLE Official newsletter of the East Tennessee Mopars Car Club. Established April, 1988 easttennesseemopars.com [email protected] Club meeting: Volume 29 The regular March monthly meeting will be held on Saturday, March 3 at the Shoney’s restaurant on Rutledge Pike. Meeting will begin at 7:00pm. Inside this issue Birthday’s 3 Officers & Bd Members 3 Calendar of Events 4 Mopar Businesses & For Sale Items 5 Club Application 7 Moparty Picnic 8 Issue 03 March 2016 President’s Corner By Judy Holman During these “winter” months we all work on our cars. Whether it’s to give it that long awaited wax job or to do repairs to get it ready for show season. Mike and I are doing the same. Several bumpers are going to Tri-City Plating in Elizabethton, TN to get re-chromed. They do a terrific job. We are also waiting on the moldings for my Satellite. My Road Runner and Belvedere II will receive a thorough cleaning. Looks like spring is going to be a busy time at the Holman garage. The annual Valentine’s Dinner was held on Saturday, February 20 at Longhorns Steak House. What a great turn out! We had 17 members to attend. The restaurant accommodated us with two long tables so we could sit close enough to talk. The food was very good (dessert was fabulous!). We talked about cars and family and had a chance to catch up. It was wonderful to see everyone - Hugh & Sharon, Joe David & Cinda, Jim & Sandy, Bobby G & Janet, Ken & Kim, John & Debbie, Jim & Barbara and her dad Walt, and Mike & I. Pictures will be ready for next months newsletter. This activity is one that will be on our calendar every year. Mike and I attended the “New Car” car show at the convention center last weekend. The Dodge/Ram/Chrysler area had several great looking vehicles. I loved the look and style of the 2500 Ram Big Horn. Black with tan leather interior, auto, 5.7 HEMI (diesel and 6sp is available) and a 4x4. This one has 4 doors with a 6 foot bed, but it does come with the 8 foot bed. We also looked at the Dodge Dart SXT. A great small car with a lot to offer - 6sp, 2.4L 14 Tigershark with MultiAir2 ,offering 184 horsepower. Be sure to check out the calendar of events page. The March and April regular club meetings will be held at the Shoney’s Restaurant on Rutledge Pike. The May meeting will be determined but the June meeting will be at Chilhowee Park. All meetings begin at 7:00pm. If you plan to attend the MoParty Picnic on May 7 let me know. We are discussing a caravan down I-40/I-75south that morning. Hope to see you at a club meeting or activity. (Mike’s hip surgery went very well. He is doing great and becoming a pro on his crutches. Thank you for all the good thoughts and get well messages.) This years show will be held at Chilhowee Park, on the Midway Side. In years past when we registered cars and they went though the tunnel, this show will be held on that side of the park. It is a very large area with both grass and black top areas for parking, along with bathrooms and a large pavilion. We will be able to park visitors cars right across Beaman Street at no extra charge. Everyone (car show entrants, swap/vendor, & spectators) will enter through one gate with easy access to their parking areas. Our car show flyer this year will include many of our sponsors who were able to commit early to sponsorship. ALL sponsors will be announced and acknowledged the day of the show, So we are still accepting sponsors until May. I will have sponsorship invoices available at all club meetings if you need one. The Car Show Committee began the process of deciding a design for this years t-shirt. After much discussion and looking at pictures, we came up with a pretty good idea. Attend the March meeting and find out what the committee came up with. Be sure to get some flyers and begin passing them around and talking up the show. There are only 3 months until car show time! If you have any questions just give me (Judy) a call at (865)-691-6002 or drop me a line at [email protected]. Editor’s Notes By Judy Holman There are very few open car shows that I will not attend. These shows usually have some type of class for all of us Mopar nuts. This year I will not be attending the Halls Car Show. Looking over the flyer they mailed to me something caught my eye - not one class for Mopars! They have Top Sports/Exotic, Import, Truck, Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, Street Rod, and Muscle Car. Along with Best Paint, Interior, and Engine compartment. Again, no Mopar. It’s a real shame. There have been several Mopars on the front of their shirts. ETM won Club Participation last year. I hate not attending but for Mopars to be totally shut out while other Models are represented just doesn’t sit right with me. The Halls Band Booster Club is a terrific organization that really supports the Halls High School band. I hope they will reconsider their classes for next years show. Club Wearables - car show season is right around the corner and wouldn’t you look good wearing a shirt or jacket with your name and the club logo on it? Please note that once your order is placed, it will take about 3 weeks to get your items. Place your order at any regular club meeting. All items must be paid for at time of ordering.
