We just wrapped up what will be the last bigger show of the season
for us here at WMM. We just finished a 200mile round trip to Bowling
Green for the 4th Annual Nostalgia Nationals. Friday was a bit warm later
in the day, but we were lucky enough to have a nice spot under the shade
trees at Beech Bend Raceway. The weather was a bit cooler in the mornings under clear skies and then after the show and dinner we returned to
the hotel for the TGIF party in which the evening was perfect and very
relaxing.
It being fall, we are already beginning to take into consideration what
shows might be on the agenda for the 2016 season. Here in middle Tennessee the leaves are beginning to fall and change colors, which is the signal that the 2015 show season is slowly coming to an end.
We here at WMM will spend the winter months continuing to re-cap
the 2015 season in photos and text here in the magazine. We still have
coverage of some of the best shows and photos and stories of some of the
coolest hot rods and custom cars and trucks in the country.
Fall brings on some new seasons of quality automotive related programming on the TV. The Drag Racing season is also coming to a close
with a great countdown lineup set for our weekend entertainment.
I’ll have much more time to catch up on some reading and studying
the history of this great hobby of ours! Stay tuned on our social media
outlet and in the pages of WMM for as much as one can possibly have to
keep the cabin fever to what I hope to be a bare minimum!

The last part of April and the first part of May was the 41st Annual
Street Rod Nationals South held at beautiful Chilhowee Park in Knoxville,
Tennessee.
We have been attending this show for many years before and after
moving to Texas. This is certainly one of our favorite venues to attand a
car show and as you turn the pages you will certainly see why we say this.
The quality of the cars and trucks are second to none, the landscaping is perfect and the park has plenty of trees and shade! The lower portion closest to the road is home to many different food vendors. The large
building in the back ground plays home to a “womens world” on the top
floor and numerous automotive related vendors on the bottom floor.
Right outside this building just down the hill are more vendors that
carry just about eveything you need for your hot rod, classic or custom!
There is also a tunnel that goes under the main road which also plays host
to many many more parking spots and some additional grass and shade.
If you have never attended this show, we would highly encourage you
to add it to your bucket list! See you there in 2016!!! WMM
Al & Sue Gorski from Rochelle, IL own’ this cool ‘34 Ford Coupe.
They also belong to the Hub City Cruiszers! This was one very cool
coupe.

Justin Keller cruised in from Buford, GA in his hot rod ‘29 Model A.
This was a very clean and simple build!

Rhonda & Mike Campbel from Stanley, NC brought out their cool ‘54
Chevrolet wagon! Check out the distressed leather!
Local guy Kenneth Hatmaker has this nice ‘37 Ford! Very clean and
comfy in appearance.

Gene Shelton from Greeneville, TN has this awsome ‘46 Ford. The
interior is nicely elegant!
Clifford Robbles from Hillsboro, OH celebrated the Anniversary of his
‘40 Ford by displaying it in Knoxville for the weekend!! WOW!!!

Robert Huffman out of Lawrenceville, GA has this super blue ‘39
Ford! I love the blue color and the polished 5 spokes.

Erskine Nichols from Clanton, AL, your ‘55 Ford is very cool, has a
perfect stance and a perfectly detailed enginge bay!
This interior is very colorful and well detailed! it has aftermarket gauges, a matching leather wrapped steering wheel and A/C to keep its
owner comfortable.

I would love to know how many miles Les Ballinger’s ‘38 Ford Tudor
currently has on it. He’s from Burlington, IA! Enjoy the miles!!!

thier ‘58 Edsel 2 door wagon! Road Trip Anyone???

F-100. This truck is perfect, clean and has a great showing!
Another Florida Car is this ‘47 Chevrolet owned by Guy Graham. He
belongs to the Tampa Knights CC. How many mile does she have
Guy? Nice ride!!!

Bright Orange paint, detailed engine bay and large hoop polished
wheels round out the package!!
This interior is simple, clean and covered in color matching leather!

‘34 Ford - Greg & Nadine Saunders - Zephyrhills, FL
This ‘46 Chevrolet is owned by Jim Harrison from Granite Quarry,
NC. The stance is killer as are the color matched steelies, caps and
rings!

Don Yates from Cleveland, NC owns this stunning ‘54 Chevrolet. It is
powered by a late model injected Chevy motor. The interior is color
matched with perfect teal and white combination. The console is custom and it is cooled by Vintage Air A/C! Nice!!!

his 427 ci powered ‘32 Ford Coupe! with grey cast salt flat wheels!!!

L. D. Ottinger from Newport, TN belongs to the Hard Times CC and
brought out his stunning ‘52 Ford! Love the caps and WWW’s.

‘56 Chevrolet! Highly polished, perfect stance and large hoop 5 spoke
wheels and a detailed engine bay complete the exterior!
The interior and trunk are a perfect match of custom and stock!

The MHRA had an onsite rod shop for any of the participants needing

Mark Berlin from Imperioal, MO cruised out in his ‘36 Ford Cabroliet. It is burn orange in color and has a tan colored top. The interior is
done in all matching leather as is the trunk.
I think Mark may be a bass head juding by the two large Polk Audio
woofers mounted nicely in the trunk of his ‘36. Would love to hear it!

all the action!!! And as you can see
there is parking all around it.

Doing what we love for over 2 1/2 decades......
Heather and I have been attending car shows all over the country since
1989 when we had my first car a ‘71 Nova SS. We used to put countless
hours in the night before the show to make sure it was the best it could be
and packing all the necessities for a day of automotive fun! From stereo
competitions to car shows, drag races and everything in between we did it
together!!!
Now approximately 26 years later we are still together doing the same thing,
well, minus the all nighters getting things together, now we just take an extra
day off to prepare the car and all the belongings. These days a great night
sleep is in order prior to our long weekends out of town attending car shows!
We just got back yesterday afternoon from The Goodguys 4th Annual
Nostalgia Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While Bowling Green
is an easy one and half hour trip from our home, we still needed to rest!
Ending the TGIF party in the hotel parking lot much earlier than before.
The next goal of ours is to complete one of the cross country tours such as
one of the Street Rodder Road Tours or one of numerous others.
Here is to the fun of our Hot Rodding Hobby and sharing it all
with my wife Heather for the next 26 years!!!!! WMM

Bench Racing
Bench Racing is defined in several different ways. The urban dictionary defines Bench Racing as:
1. To discuss quarter mile elapsed time of a car based on a list of modifications or horsepower estimate.
2. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications
done to each engine.
3. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications

While I do agree with the Urban Dictionary’s definition of Bench Racing, Bench Racing in the context of this
section of the magaine will be defined as:

Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour 2015……
A bunch of hot rods just completed about 1800 miles of driving from the re-
cent Goodguys Colorado Nationals in Loveland to the Goodguys Nostalgia Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
They made over 24 stops at rare automobile collections, museums, hot rod
shops and also visited different manufacturers. They had a special parking are at
the show in Bowling Green and had the great fortune of checking them out this past
Friday while attending the Nostalgia Nationals.
A few of the heavy hitters were Ed Capen of Goodguys driving the ’32 Ford
Roadster Giveaway car, Harold and Tracy Chapman driving their new completed
’49 Cadillac convertible that was a multiple award winner in Bowling Green. Gil
& Janet Losi were in the ’67 Buick Riviera, and Ron Meis in his stunning ’65 GTO
built by Kindig-It Designs in Salt Lake City, Utah.
We’ve yet to take the Impala on one of these tours yet, however, it’s on my
bucket list and will continue to drive towards that Goal.
The majority of the cars on this tour are super high end and it excites me to no
end to know that even though they are extremely nice, their owners don’t care a bit
to drive them. After all, cars are to be driven!!!
Maybe one of these days we’ll have full coverage as a participant in one of these
long haul cruises. WMM
