Central Area Conference 2014 Award Winners
Schedule at a Glance
The Eben Junkin Award
Given in recognition of an individual’s significant contributions
with respect to NACE related activities and education.
Jane Brown started Brown Corrosion Services, Inc., 21 years ago with
her father, Jerry Brown. Previous to BCSI starting, Jane worked for other
corrosion companies in the areas of monitoring and atmospheric
dehumidification. Since 1995, Jane started her involvement with the local
Houston Section, learning the art of NACE volunteering from the NACE
Houston Mafia – a group of gentlemen who served NACE with passion for
corrosion, enthusiasm for the industry, belief in the power of education and
commitment to having NACE serve as many members as possible through
networking, business opportunities and education. Jane has co-chaired
two NACE Central Conferences, served on all the seats in both the Houston
Section and Central Area Boards, serves as the current Central Area Director
and ACC Chair through 2016, and lots of other fun NACE stuff!
The Janice Redding Vendor Appreciation Award
Given in recognition of a vendor’s significant
involvement in the Central Area activities including,
exhibiting, speaking, training & providing time to
allow employees to volunteer.

Last year’s recipient is Dairyland Electrical Industries.
Dairyland started in 1983, formed by Henry Tachick
to address an overlooked need in the power utility
industry for a solid-state switching product to safely
serve their farm customers. Named “Dairyland,” the
company is based in Wisconsin - the home of milk and cheese, inhabited by friendly people whose vehicles
carry the state motto “America’s Dairyland” on their license plates. As the company grew, additional power
utility products brought the company into the cathodic protection arena, which lead to a broad array of
devices for applications on pipelines, tanks, boats, wells, and other interesting and unusual variants. The
industry was introduced to a new term – decoupler – and old technologies gave way to new. The present
product line addresses needs in various industries for over-voltage protection, safety grounding, and cathodic
protection improvement. Dairyland is very aware of the need for education on these topics, speaking often at
industry conferences and training sessions on best safety and CP practices, and freely helping all who need
technical assistance. New training videos, tools, and articles are regularly generated to guide the industry.
In 2013, the company achieved ISO 9001 certification, indicating that a very effective quality system was in
place to govern all aspects of company operation. Guiding all operations is the attitude of total customer
service, attempting to use each employee’s God-given talents for a higher purpose of serving all.
