Message from Kayleigh - Virginia Star Quilters
September 2015 Message from Kayleigh: Cooler weather calls for warm quilts! As a guild, we combine exciting programs, involvement in Expos and Shows, and charitable quilt making along with quilting for family, friends and ourselves. In September, we have a special program on a special day and location. Instead of the usual Wednesday, we will meet on Friday, September 25th, at 7:00 pm, at St. Matthias United Methodist Church, 426 Deacon Rd., Fredericksburg, VA, 22405, for a trunk show by special guest speaker Susan Emory of Swirly Girls Design. In October, we will have a Display Stand at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center. Tracy M. and Diane L. are our contacts for organizing volunteers at the booth. We need members to sign up as ambassadors to help the Expo management staff positions from October 1st – 3rd. Remember that anyone who volunteers at the Display Stand or as an ambassador is admitted for free and can enjoy the Expo before or after their shift. Also in October, we will meet at our usual location again, at Lee Hill Center or Hugh Cosner Community Center at 1 H.C.C. Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, to make some fantastic quilts for our community’s seniors in need. For more information, see the Upcoming Program news in this newsletter on page 3. In November, our 30th Year Anniversary Quilt Show is coming up. We need your quilts at the October meeting. Please think about and prepare your beautiful entries with the help of the Quilt Show Entry Instructions and Form in this newsletter. Volunteers are appreciated very much for set-up, staffing the show, and taking it down on November 6, 7, and 8. Special thanks to all our volunteers and organizers who stepped up to make our many activities available for all! -Kayleigh C. There has been some confusion whether or not the Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging wanted or needed quilts for Christmas to distribute to area seniors. Well, Linda Walker has found out for sure – YES – they want quilts! We will have our annual Senior Quilts Work Day in October with doors opening at 2:00 p.m. There is something for everyone to do from piecing (bring your own machine) to pressing, stitching down binding and attaching labels. If you have a senior quilt project underway, bring them to work on. Several people have indicated that they have tops needing to be quilted; Vicki said she could quilt them in her studio. So, please bring them to the October meeting. Batting, backs, and kits will be available for those needing them. The business meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Nov. 18, 2015: Easy Microwave Fabric Dyeing presented by Marty Moon Come learn how easy it is to create your own unique piece of fabric using your microwave. Think of the possibilities!! December 16, 2015: Annual Holiday Dinner I need a couple of party planners to help plan the annual holiday dinner (theme, decorations, gift exchange, door prizes, etc). Please contact me (Carol V.) if you are willing to volunteer. QUILT SHOW COMMITTEE MEETING Please meet at 6:30 p.m. before the regular meeting on September 25th for a quick meeting. REMINDERS FOR QUILT SHOW We need quilts, quilts, quilts and more quilts! If you wish to turn in paperwork and/or quilts early – please bring them to the meeting on September 25th. Quilts and paperwork are due by the OCTOBER 21st meeting please! We need a photo and paperwork for insurance and to keep your quilts safe! Paperwork is available at the meeting or in the newsletter. Please remember to add a sleeve to the back of your quilt so that we can hang it during the show. Please think about donating items for our Boutique. Don't forget our Nine Patch Challenge! (See instructions on page 4!) WANTED: Do you have a quilt you finished or made from old blocks (your grandmother's UFO, for example)? I would love to display them at the show. Don't forget to sign up to set up, man and take down the show. Thank you for all your help. I know it will be a great show. Any questions? Just ask!
