4 women’s recruiting Jacqueline Giles By Andy Bilello F or the first time, Inside Lacrosse has identified the best of the best by ranking the Top 25 women’s players entering the college ranks this year. Although perhaps lacking in depth top to bottom, the Class of 2007 features some promising players that will be sure to impress in the coming years. Our rankings do not necessarily take into account how polished they are when arriving on campus this fall. Our focus is on just how each player’s athletic ability projects into performance over the next few years in college. Given a little time, and coaching, these players will become tomorrow’s stars. 1. Shaylyn Blaney Midfield Notre Dame; Ward Melville, NY The total package. A superior athlete who plays hard on both ends of the field, Blaney combines innate game sense and polished stick skills with a hypercompetitive intensity. Stick Skills 2. Sarah Bullard Chumney 110_INSIDE LACROSSE_V11_I9 Speed 3. Taylor Chumney TODD LOVE (2) 3 Taylor Midfield Duke Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, MA A smooth performer with a nose for the goal. Bullard is a natural leader (captain of the U.S. Under-19 squad). She’ll make an immediate impact for the Blue Devils. Defense North Carolina; Moorestown, NJ The most complete defender entering the college ranks this year. Chumney is a versatile athlete who already understands the value of communication on the field. In time, she should develop into the anchor of the Tar Heels’ defense. Defensive Checking 4. Jacqueline Giles 5. Jackie Doherty Stick Skills Strength Attack Georgetown; Mount Hebron, MD A prolific scorer who headlines a trio of attack recruits that will contribute immediately to the Hoya offense. Giles is a true finisher with a history of scoring big goals in the biggest games. Defense Notre Dame; Mount Hebron, MD Doherty possesses great defensive instincts along with quickness and an intimidating stick. Will provide the Fighting Irish with an added physical presence. V11_I9_INSIDE LACROSSE_111 8. Colleen Magarity Midfield Northwestern; Germantown Academy, PA The most heralded of Northwestern’s incoming recruits. Magarity’s athleticism and scoring ability will keep the Wildcats in contention for more national titles. 10 Speed 9. Morgan Miller Allie Hubschmann Midfield Duke; Colorado Academy, CO Miller is the top player coming out of Colorado this year. She’s an athlete in the truest sense, with a relentless will to win. Once she learns the system, Miller has the potential to become a force in the Blue Devils’ lineup. Speed 10. Allie Hubschmann Attack Georgetown; Oak Knoll, NJ Sidelined by a knee injury during her junior campaign, Hubschmann put to rest any questions of her fitness with a fantastic senior year. The dodging attacker is primed to star in the college game. Stick Skills {11-25} 11. Molly Everett Midfield/Defense Virginia; Upper Arlington, OH An ideal mix of size (5-foot-10) and athleticism gives Everett the profile of an outstanding college defender. She will help boost the Cavaliers as they look to take the next step toward another national crown. Size 12. Laura Lesnick Midfield Penn State; North Harford, MD Identified as the “sleeper” in the class by several college coaches, Lesnick could develop into a real difference maker for Penn State. Her skill set translates well to the speed and tempo of the college game. Speed 13. Kristin Igoe Midfield/Attack Boston College; Framingham, MA An impact player who headlines a very strong class at BC. The Boston Globe’s Player of the Year has the speed that coaches covet and brings a raw blue-collar mentality to the field. 6. Plays with savvy and poise while directing other players on the back line. An attention-grabbing recruit for the Spiders. Players to Watch Matthews fits in the mold of other players who have excelled at Northwestern: fast and tenacious.
