Islington has always been at the heart
of London’s lesbian, gay, bi and trans
history. Find out more!
From the first gay rights demo in 1970, the
first Pride marches in ’71 and ’72, to a
multitude of ground breaking community
organisations including the Gay Liberation
Front and Friend, GALOP and LAGER,
Stonewall and Switchboard;
From the first out Mayor and the first out
Member of Parliament, to cutting-edge
venues like Popstars, Trade, The Bell,
The Fallen Angel and The Prince Albert;
From the London Lesbian and Gay
Centre to local initiatives like Pink Angels
and Islington’s unique association with
lesbian and gay sport.
Now that tradition is continuing with
Islington’s first LGBT History Month,
a partnership between Islington
Council and Islington LGBT Forum.
