Tang Seng Choon Head of Audit, BDO Malaysia 4.30pm Q&A Session 5.00pm End of Seminar SPEAKERS’ PROFILE Paul Thompson Paul Thompson is the Director of IFAC’s Global Accountancy Profession Support, after serving as Director of SME & SMP Affairs where he led initiatives to support the development of small- and medium-sized practices. Prior to this he was with Touche Ross & Co., London, specialising in the audit of financial institutions. He also lectured on financial reporting and analysis at the undergraduate and MBA levels at universities in the UK, Singapore and Malaysia. Paul holds a bachelor of science in accounting and financial analysis from the University of Warwick, and contributes to publications in academic journals and professional press in the areas of bank lending, financial reporting, corporate governance, and corporate social reporting. Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan was elected as MIA Vice President on 27 July 2015.This is her new term as MIA Vice President. Datuk Zaiton was first appointed as MIA Council member on 16 July 2013. Datuk Zaiton is currently the Managing Director of Capital Intelligence Advisors Sdn Bhd. She is the Chairman of the Private Pension Administrator Malaysia. She is also the Chairman of a public-listed company, Dolphin International Berhad, and Director of Sime Darby Berhad, BIMB Holdings Berhad and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. She was the President of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee. She was also formerly the President/Executive Director of Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC). Prior to joining MARC, Datuk Zaiton served 12 years with Maybank in various senior positions including that of General Manager, Group Strategic Planning. Poon Yew Hoe Poon Yew Hoe is the Managing Partner of Crowe Horwath in Malaysia and Cambodia. Professionally, he specialises in taxation and heads the tax division of the firm as the Senior Tax Partner in Malaysia. Mr Poon's experience spans 37 years beginning with his 6 year stint with a major accounting firm and another 2 years with a commercial firm in Malaysia. Having been in practice since 1983, he has a diverse experience in auditing, taxation, business advisory, investigations and due diligence reviews. His clients include public listed and multi-national companies engaged in a variety of industries including manufacturing, property development, construction, shipbuilding, tertiary education and hospitality. Poon is a regular speaker at seminars and serves as a council member in the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chua Hock Hoo Dato’ Dr. Chua qualified as a professional accountant from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant in 1993. He obtained Doctorate in Knowledge Management (PHD) from University of Malaya in 2012 and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Oklahoma City University, USA in 1995. He had successfully completed the 5th Asean Senior Management Development Program organized by Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia on 7th July 2013. Dato’ Dr. Chua distinguished himself in practice as an auditor, licensed liquidator and a tax consultant. He is the co-founder and currently the Managing Partner of Cheng & Co, a Chartered Accountants firm. Besides, he is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Malaysian Institute of Taxation and Financial Planning Association of Malaysia, fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) and CPA Australia, associate member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia and also member of Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia. In addition, Dato’ Dr. Chua also sits on the board as a director of several private and listed companies in Malaysia and Australia. He has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor of UNITAR International University in 2014, Industry Advisor of SEGI College KL, Audit Committee Member of the Malaysian Red Crescent, Trustee of Real Foundation, and he is also the Founder Member of Cheng & Co Foundation. Tang Seng Choon Tang Seng Choon is the Head of Audit at BDO in Malaysia. He has more than 20 years’ of working experience in the accounting profession. Prior to joining BDO, he was the Head of an Audit division at KPMG Malaysia, one of the Big 5 accounting firms; as well as the partner in charge of its Malacca office, and a member of the Global Audit Methodology Council of KPMG. Tang is a member of the BDO International Audit Steering Committee (ASC), which deals with the global roll out of all new audit methodology and tools, as well as accounting and auditing issues and initiatives of BDO International. He sits on the Financial Statements Review Committee and the Audit and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of MIA and is currently the Audit and Accounting Coordinator of BDO Malaysia. He is a member of the Convergence Task Force and Issues Committee of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (“MASB”) and has been actively participating in local deliberations on financial reporting matters involving the MASB.
