KRIEGHOFF CLASSIC
• Slim, compact action with reinforced
sidewalls for extra strength, built from
forged steel.
A side-by-side rifle of truly classic proportions.
The CLASSIC combines the heritage of
the traditional side-by-side rifle and
the sophistication of the most modern
design and manufacturing technology
available today. The Classic is a rifle
that provides the ultimate in safety
and reliability and a wide range of
features that insure smooth, quick,
accurate shooting.
The side-by-side rifle is most often
associated with large calibers and
dangerous game. In a life-or-death
situation at close quarters, the best
rifle is the one that points smoothly
and instinctively, like a fine shotgun,
and can put two bullets where they
need to be as quickly as possible.
Although it is useful for other applications, that is the true domain of the
side-by-side rifle.
It must be fast-handling and well-balanced, and it must also be strong to withstand the pounding of the big Nitro
Express cartridges. The Krieghoff CLASSIC surprises with its compact, streamlined appearance and its light but very
solid feel. For maximum versatility the
Classic is best configured with the Universal Trigger System and the Combi
Cocking Device.
A unique option for the CLASSIC is a
single trigger with hair trigger combination. The hair trigger may be useful in
special applications, such as long range
shooting where substantial precision is
required. The single trigger operates
mechanically, independent of recoil, and
is very crisp, robust, and reliable.

The Classic is available in standard calibers up to 9.3 x 74R.
The Classics in larger calibers are designated CLASSIC “Big Five” and are
described on pages 16, 17.
The CLASSIC is an excellent choice for a
number of hunting applications. From
European and American large game to
African antelope and dangerous game,
the famous “Big Five”. An optional
interchangeable side-by-side shotgun
barrel comes in handy for an occasional
day of bird shooting.
No matter what configuration, the heart
of the CLASSIC, the action, is always the
same. With the choice of interchangeable barrels in different calibers, the
CLASSIC is universally useful for any
kind of hunting, whether in standard or
“Big Five” calibers or as side-by-side
shotgun.
You can always carry “just the right
gun” with the considerable advantage
of carrying a gun you are used to.
Please note features common to all
models PLUS, ULTRA and CLASSIC
described on pages 2 through 5.
• Purdey style extension between the
barrels and the face of the standing
breech to withstand lateral bending
forces.

withstand wear.

placement for error-free firing and

Every CLASSIC rifle, regardless of caliber
or grade, is built around an identical
action to which any number of barrels
may be fit. Select your preferred calibers
for “Big Five” or plains game, for
example, and simply by switching barrels, you have one rifle – same trigger
response, feel, and stock fit – for an
entire safari. You may even choose 20
gauge shotgun barrels for an odd day of
bird shooting on the Veld, making the
Krieghoff CLASSIC “Big Five” a gun of
unparalleled versatility.
CLASSIC “BIG FIVE”
It is the ultimate African adventure.
The quest for the “Big Five”. Forever
connected with side-by-side rifles, the
classic configuration that bespeaks
superb handling and the ultimate
reliability.
Krieghoff has the rifle to meet the
challenge. The CLASSIC “Big Five”. It
is beautifully designed; technically
flawless; and built without compromise when it comes to the details.
Based on the popular CLASSIC
Standard, the CLASSIC “Big Five” is
designed in conjunction with professional hunters and safari experts specifically for hunting dangerous game.
• Calibers range from .375 H&H to .500
N.E., the most effective on dangerous
game and the choice of professional
hunters and their most knowledgeable clients.
• CLASSIC “Big Fives” made in the .375
H&H Magnum and .375 H&H Flanged
Magnum N.E., which may be shot at
longer distances, feature a removable
muzzle wedge with integrated front
sight allowing for adjustment of the
point-of-impact without re-soldering
or re-bluing the barrels. The barrels of
CLASSIC “Big Fives” in calibers larger
than .375 feature conventional
soldered wedges.
Because the ideal combination for dangerous game is a big bore double rifle
chambered for a rimmed cartridge,
Krieghoff has joined forces with WR
Ammunition Company (Wolfgang
Romey), the world renowned German
specialist in big bore ammunition, to
develop a new flanged cartridge –
the .500/.416 Nitro Express (3 1/4”).
• The CLASSIC “Big Five” has such
standard features as Krieghoff’s
Universal Trigger System, Combi
Cocking Device, hinged front trigger,
steel trigger guard, and steel trigger
floor plate, and a special stock bolt
for optimal weight and balance.
We also offer the optional “BreaKO”
recoil reducer.
The designation says it all. It is a 3 1/4”
.500 caliber case and a .416 bullet –
components which are popular throughout the world and readily available
everywhere.
• The CLASSIC “Big Five” is not available with the hair trigger combination. It does have a hinged front trigger, however, to protect the forefinger
from the effects of big caliber recoil.
The ballistics are perfect for the use on
dangerous game, similar
to the famed .416
Rigby, but with the
supreme advantage
of a flanged cartridge.
• The stock dimensions of the CLASSIC
allow you to shoot equally well with
open sights or with a scope. And the
fine oil finish makes it easy to modify
the stock to your own dimensions and
to re-finish it.
• A choice of sights is available. A rectangular rear sight with rectangular
foresight is standard. A V-shaped rear
sight with bead foresight is available
at no additional charge. Folding and
express sights are also available as an
option.
Handsome and functional: The optional,
customized case for the CLASSIC is airline proven and provides protection for
your valuable rifle.
Modern technology and traditional
lines. The CLASSIC-S “Big Five” with
sideplates version, engraving “English
with Bouquet”.

The .500/.416 N.E. (3 1/4”) provides:
• Reliable extraction.
• Simple construction using readily
available components.
• Maximum effectiveness with moderate pressure. Velocity and energy are
similar to the belted .416 calibers,
such as the .416 Rigby.
These characteristics combined with its
high energy and flat trajectory suggest
that the .500/.416 N.E (3 1/4”) is itself
destined to become a ‘classic’ member
of the big bore cartridge family.
