The Library is pleased to present The Bakithi Kumalo Band,
featuring Grammy Award-winning bassist, composer, and vocalist
Bakithi Kumalo. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa,
Mr. Kumalo has collaborated with Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson, Cyndi
Lauper, Herbie Hancock, Josh Groban, Bob James, Randy Brecker,
and Chaka Khan, among others. Thought of by many as one of the
most talented living bassists, Mr. Kumalo is best known for his bass
solo on the Paul Simon song “Call Me Al.” He collaborated with Simon
on his “Graceland” recording and continues to tour with him. This
all-star band offers an incredible and eclectic blend of jazz and world
beat grooves—musical styles to inspire spirit and soul. The audience will
have the opportunity to meet the performers and enjoy refreshments following the concert. This program is

the Library, presents the IchiFuji-kai Dance Association,
with a lighthearted evening devoted to exploring Japanese classical dance and its props. Dancers may hold
objects —most often fans—in their hands while dancing.
Other props include sticks, umbrellas, masks, and hand
puppets. There will be a delightful running commentary
with demonstrations, and time for questions from the

Flu activity is increasing in many parts of
the United States and the Centers for Disease
Control is preparing for an early flu season with
cases of both the 2009 H1N1(swine) flu and the
seasonal flu. A representative from the Visiting
Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk will explore
the differences between the seasonal flu and the
H1N1 flu. She will discuss prevention, how to
recognize symptoms, what to do if you contract either

underpainting using different mediums. Their work

eAudiobooks for children and teens are now available online
through the Library’s website. A Northport-East Northport Library
card provides access to hundreds of eAudiobook titles from
NetLibrary. Best-sellers, classic fiction, and nonfiction eAudiobooks
for children and teens can be downloaded to a PC, laptop, PDA,
iPod, or MP3 player. New titles are continually added and most are
unabridged. eAudiobooks are narrated by their respective authors
or well-regarded actors.
To begin using eAudiobooks go to the Library’s website at
www.nenpl.org and enter the Children’s or Teen Page. Click on
the eAudiobook link. Follow the instructions to create a NetLibrary
account and download the “Media Center” software. Once you’ve
downloaded the “Media Center” you can listen to the book on your
computer or transfer the book to your portable listening device.
