So for anyone anticipating a patch–of–plenty, it might be wise to keep the farmer’s mantra “need to feed” foremost in mind. Vintage trends have been appearing everywhere in recent years; from the return of 60s fashion to cocktails, even slow cooking. The cliché “what’s old is new again” rings true more than ever when it comes to home décor. Frank Turco, senior manager, trend and design, The Home Depot Canada, shares some of the biggest décor comebacks for the season and how to make them work in your home: Mirrored Tile – In the 80s, everything and anything that could be covered in mirror was – closet doors, ceilings, even entire walls. While the trend has returned, Frank suggests combining the look of mirrored tiles with a standard tile to give the bathroom a sleek and sophisticated look. PAGE 7 Carpeting – While the brightly coloured shag carpeting of the 1970s has yet to make a comeback, the cost and comfort of wall–to–wall carpeting has kept this trend alive. Frank says Canadians are no longer sticking to neutrals when it comes to carpeting – we’re getting more adventurous with colour again. The new line of Martha Stewart Living carpets offers homeowners rich colours, patterns and textures. Bold browns, avocado greens and rich reds are a few examples of colours being introduced to the decorating world. Loving Linoleum – The vinyl and linoleum flooring that became popular in the 50s are both back and better then ever. Allure’s line of vinyl floors is available in a wide selection of colours and textures. Frank recommends the new Easy GripStrip Installation to make this an easy DIY project. All you need to do is lay this new flooring over old floors. Vegetable plants, which are especially heavy feeders, need particular nutrients to grow, resist disease, and produce fruit. If these are missing from the soil, plants will have a limited growth rate – and while some nutrients are produced sufficiently from the natural environment, other important building blocks, like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium may not be. “When an all purpose plant food, like Miracle–Gro is applied as directed,” Pell explained, “it replenishes these nutrients in your garden soil, providing plants the nutrients they need to thrive.” “It takes two,” says Glenn Martin at Scotts, a leading company in lawn and garden supplies. “It takes both the fertilizer and the weed control working in harmony to produce a healthy green lawn–and with the latest advancements, it is easier than you think.” Additional information is available online at www.GroForGood.ca – and this spring, the Miracle–Gro Gardening Guide will be distributed in neighbourhood garden centres. the risk of burning,” Martin explained. “Our Turf Builder fertilizerwith its patented all–in– one particle, delivers this”.
