and is concerned about personal safety and/or protection
In the past this usually meant bulky, heavy sliding security doors
of possessions. Crime is clearly a major driver of demand,
that were difficult to operate. Trellidor is the only manufacturer

• Securing internal doors where access must be restricted
e.g. change rooms, storage areas, offices
Other drivers of sales in the domestic market include:
• Growth in housing stock and renovations/expansions to
existing homes
• Existing customers moving to new homes
• Embassies and foreign buyers looking for secure housing
• High levels of disposable income
• Favourable levels of interest rates/ability to borrow
• Protecting the exterior of buildings to stop unwanted
intrusion, such as shop front doors and windows after
hours
• Situations where aesthetics are important as this type of
product allows a full view of the exterior of the building
• Situations where people wanting to enter the premises are
clearly visible behind the security gate
• Buildings where windows and doors need to be protected

• Trimshops
Trimshops are established in countries where sufficient
demand has been found to justify the investment.
Typically, more than 3000m² of product is supplied
per annum. Trimshops are supplied with components in
standard height ranges from the factory in South Africa to
be kept in stock. These components are cropped, punched
and assembled to specific customer requirements on order
and supplied directly to the customer by the distributor.
Trimshops are supplied with basic punching and cropping
machines, rivet guns, tables and saws and usually hold in
the region of three month’s stock on hand on location. Topup orders are manufactured in South Africa and generally
sea-freighted to the distributor. The product range is
limited and anything outside of the trimshop’s capability
DISTRIBUTOR SUPPORT
A dedicated sales and logistics team based in Durban
provides direct support to our export customers. Orders
are placed through this team and passed onto the factory
once checked. The team then manages the order through
the production process, onto the necessary transport vessels
and to the distributor.
A dedicated export manager/consultant is allocated to each
territory and visits on a regular basis to assist with the
following:
• Business strategy and marketing plans
• Structure and staffing
• Technical and sales training
• Product support and technical assistance

PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION
Trellidor is unique in its product differentiation. Unlike
a pre-treatment process that enhances our products’
other manufacturers of trellis-style security barriers, our
resistance to corrosion and is UV resistant
steel components are roll formed into u-channel profiles
with reinforced edges rolled back 180°. This gives our
barriers increased flexibility and strength, and we’re able
to coat all surfaces with our superior corrosion resistant
powder coating. Our competitors use square tubing which
is difficult to coat on the inside and therefore vulnerable to
corrosion, and also more brittle in terms of strength.
• Our barriers are all custom made to fit the opening,
ensuring best-fit for strength and integrity
• A number of our products have been internationally
certified
• We offer guarantees of 3 years (coast) or 5 years (inland)
in South Africa
• We can supply a range of products for different security
risk profiles
Our other equally important points of differentiation on all
our products are:

that out-perform any others on the market
• Our barriers feature a sash with a double upright system
(front and back) with links that cross over and connect
three upright bars instead of the two used by competitors.
This improves strength as well as smooth operation
• Specially designed tamper-proof fixings and purpose

• Our bottom track features a low profile aluminium

These include:

CONCLUSION
Crime is an international problem but the South African
market has its own peculiarities that have lead to the
development of our unique Trellidor brand of physical
security barriers and a business that has grown exponentially
over the last 30 years. Through continuous research
and development we are now able to offer products of
international quality for a wide variety of applications.
Trading in international markets has shown us that no
matter what the local conditions, Trellidor products are
universal. We have a premium brand that does a superb,
uncomplicated job of protecting people and possession.
Strong, dedicated partnerships in countries beyond our
shores, supported by our committed head office team, have
proven highly beneficial to both the officially appointed
distributor and Trellidor itself.
Trellidor intends to continue expand the business both in
South Africa and internationally and the outlook for us all
in terms of future growth is highly positive.
