DECIDE WHAT TO EXHIBIT Please note: Beginning in 2016, Carver County Fair is using new names for exhibit categories in order to integrate with the ShoWorks System. These new names are reflected throughout this handbook. 2. REGISTER In 2016, the Carver County Fair will again use the ShoWorks Fair Management System. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged. If you pre-register, your entry tags will be ready when you bring in your exhibits and you will avoid long lines. To pre-register, please do one of the following by August 1, 2016: • Fill out and submit the online form at www.carvercountyfair.com/exhibit • Visit www.carvercountyfair.com to download a PDF form. Print, fill out and mail the form to: 501 West 3rd Street, Waconia, MN 55387. If you do not pre-register, you may register on-site during the drop-off times below, but be prepared to wait in line. OLD Department Class Lot NEW Department Division Class Special Ribbon Recognition Bring more exhibits and receive a special ribbon recognition! Each year the challenge of the competitive exhibits departments is to: 1. Include new people to exhibit 2. Increase or maintain the number of exhibits 3. Value exhibitors who bring a large number of exhibits Again in 2016, a large colorful Special Ribbon will be awarded in different departments and divisions to individuals exhibiting the most exhibits (6 or more in any one division) in the given department. For example, the most poultry entries, the most canning entries, the most flower entries, etc. 3. BRING EXHIBITS TO THE FAIR Agriculture Building Exhibits (Departments 17–27 & 117) Entry Days: Monday, August 8, 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you haven't registered yet, you'll be able to do so during these times, but be prepared to wait in line. Check your favorite department to see what they have chosen to highlight this year; the superintendent has the option of changing the Showcase Classes every year. General Rules and Regulations: Livestock competition for premiums is restricted to Carver and adjoining counties except in the case of livestock where special regulations apply. All entries must be made and delivered to the Superintendent of the proper division by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday unless another time is requested. Refer to division of the exhibit for special instructions. All exhibits must be entered in the name of the owner. No animal or exhibit will be assigned a place on the grounds unless proper entry has been made. Livestock must be brought to the judging ring promptly upon being called. Exhibitors must care for their own livestock entries. Care and feed will be provided for poultry. No animal or article unworthy of a premium shall receive 1st place even though there be no competition. Nor shall any animal or article receive a higher premium than its merit demands. When there is nothing in a division deserving a premium, the judge or committee shall make no award. Lack of competition shall not be cause for withholding a premium, if the animal or article is worthy. Any person who attempts to interfere with the judging of exhibits shall forfeit any award that he or she may be entitled to in that division. No animal or article shall compete for more than one award except when the animal is used as part of a herd or group division. Livestock judges shall give reasons for their placing at the completion of the judging of each division. Other judges may be asked to give reasons for their decisions. Animal Health All animals will be inspected by the official veterinarian the opening day of the Fair and throughout fair week. The official veterinarian will order the immediate removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any animal showing clinical signs of any infectious, contagious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts. Any animal showing evidence of any disease, abscesses, or any open contagious lesions will not be allowed to exhibit or show and will be subject to isolation or expulsion depending on the nature and seriousness of the disease, abscess or lesion in question. If illness of any nature is suspected in any animal, said animal is subject to examination by the Official Veterinarian and Fair Superintendent and 62 Poultry Poultry defined as “turkeys, chickens (fancy, exhibition, and game), waterfowl, and game birds maintained in captivity, excluding pigeons and doves” Poultry Test Requirements: Chickens, turkeys, and game birds, except baby poultry, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band. Chickens, turkeys, game birds, and hatching eggs from these birds must be accompanied by a certificate or test chart to show that they originate from a hatchery or breeding flock that is classified pullorum-typhoid clean or are negative to a pullorum-typhoid test within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition.
