As per provisions laid down in Chapter-VI of West Bengal Land Reforms Act,
1955, u/s 49 of the said Act, patta of Govt. land can be settled with a person who is the
resident of the locality and he/ she together with other member of his/ her family own no
land or having land less than 0.4047 hectares or 1.00 acre ( in calculating this limit ½ of
the land cultivated by him / her as bargadar shall be taken
into account). No employed person, businessman etc. is
entitled to have Patta land. Patta holder is not entitled to
transfer the patta hold land to any other person.
Land & Land Reforms Department, settles Govt.
land through Patta by the following process:(i)

A list of eligible persons is prepared in the village
level.
Such list is surveyed jointly by the Panchayat
elected members/ Pradhan together with the field
staff of the Land & Land Reforms Department.
Such list after joint verification is placed before
BOBS where the matter is scrutinized and resolved
in favour of the eligible persons according to merit.
The case record is initiated by BL&LRO and sent
to SDO through SDL&LRO for final approval.
Approved beneficiaries are given documents of
Patta being signed by BL&LRO and concerned
Pradhan.

Upto 15/10/2012, patta has been distributed among 1,86,778 beneficiaries covering an
area of 57,511.59 acres of land in the District . A category wise breakup of beneficiaries

On the occasion of Hon’ble
Chief Ministers’ recent visit to Onda on
04/12/2012, Agri-Pattas have been
distributed for agricultural purpose
among 700 beneficiaries covering an
area of 35.30 acres and Pattas under
NGNB Scheme have been distributed
for construction of dwelling houses
among 856 beneficiaries covering an
area of 45.20 acres.
