The Business Promotion Award sponsored by the Chamber is now, again, available for Ontario Chamber
businesses. The award is $100.00 cash to advertise your business. To qualify, you must be a Chamber
member and a business located in Ontario. To participate, applicants can send in their business card and a
winner will be picked by a random drawing each business quarter: end of March, June, Sept., Dec. The
award is on a reimbursement basis. Just send in a copy of your receipt of the advertising and you will receive

Ontario Chamber Scholarship. The Ontario Chamber is pleased to announce that we are offering a
Scholarship of $250.00 to the Wayne Central Graduate that has given the greatest number of community
service hours during his/her high school career. This will be awarded at the time of graduation. The
determination of the winner will be made by the Wayne Central High School Senior Project Coordinator.

Chamber Member Recognition
Norman A. Gerber, of Gerber Homes and Additions, has been honored with an award for Senior Life Director by
the National Association of Home Builders of the United States. He was the founder of Gerber Homes and
Additions in 1981. Gerber Homes and Additions is located at 1260 Ridge Road, Ontario, New York (315-524-7890).
They have been a chamber member since 2005.
Dr. Daniel Koretz, an Internal Medicine Specialist, was part of a 70 person medical staff that paid their own way
to Haiti, volunteering their services from March 13 to 20th. Dr. Koretz has offices at 6200 Slocum Road, Ontario,

OptiPro Systems, 6368 Dean Parkway, Beh Industrial Park is coordinating with MCC’s Advanced Optical

DEC Offers Free Fishing Events……
These events provide an opportunity to learn about fish identification, equipment, techniques, fisheries, angling
ethics and aquatic ecology. No fishing license is required to participate. Many activities, such as family fishing
clinics, also provide equipment to use. For a listing of currently posted events and contact information, visit the DEC

during the fishing season. Also, June 26 & 27 is free fishing weekend in New York. No license is required to fish
during those two days.

Ontario Food Pantry – Special Request
This year, the post office will not be collecting food items through their mail carriers. This means extra donations
will be needed to make up for the loss in the items usually collected under this program. If you would like to
donate to the Ontario Food Pantry you can drop off your canned food products at the Ontario Town Hall, 1850
Ridge Rd., Ontario, in a box located in the foyer or at Nothnagle (Ontario Office) 1450 Rt. 104 and Sue’s Hair Trends
at 2015 Ridge Rd., Ontario. Example of items needed: Nonperishable canned foods items (beans; pasta; tuna fish;
peanut butter; macaroni and cheese, canned soups); personal hygiene products and laundry products. For a large

SBA Warns Small Businesses of Fraudulent Attempts Offering to Help Them Secure SBA Loans
Washington- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is warning small businesses to use caution if they are
contacted by firms offering to help them apply for funds available through SBA programs. SBA and SBA’s Office of
the Inspector General (SBA OIG) have received several complaints from small businesses about abusive marketing
practices, scams, and exorbitant fees charged by firms offering to help them obtain a loan, grant, or other federal
funds, from SBA.
Small businesses can get free assistance in person or by calling one of SBA’s 68 District Offices and from information
on SBA’s web site( www.sba.gov). They can also get assistance from Small Business Development Centers,
Women’s Business Centers, veterans Business Outreach Centers and SCORE Chapters, either free or for a
reasonable fee. Location and contact information for the centers can be found on SBA’s Web site.
