a crucial role in being our official social media expert.
For the 13th Annual NACC Instructor Development Day, we
veered from tradition and decided to hold the event at a
member college. What a great decision that was! This year’s
event was held at the new London Campus of Medix College
of Healthcare and we are so grateful to them for being our
host.
We couldn’t have been successful without Gerry Slattery
and the Medix Team: warm, welcoming, organized, and
professional. Thoughts mirrored by their PSW Graduate, Nick
Fardy, who spoke to our instructors at the beginning of the
day.
Our theme for this year was “What are we doing to set up our
students for success?” Both speakers Mary Wilk, RN (“Reaching
the Finishing Line: How Can You Meet Your Teaching Goals?”)
and Michael Lewis (“How to Deliver a Great Lesson Plan”)
presented on the seemingly benign topic of lesson plans with
great professional advice and just the right touch of humour.
Our facilitator, Jerry Bishop, did a wonderful job at recapping
each of the sessions. And Alix Matthews-Mahé of CCO played
“A group of enthusiastic NACC instructors made their
way to a snow-laden London for the thirteenth annual
Instructors Development Day on November 26th.
Former acquaintances were greeted with pleasure and
new relationships begun as the day’s events unfolded
offering plenty of time to share and network. It was an
enjoyable and motivational day – thanks to all who
worked on organizing and planning the event!”

Recap:
OSCA
4
CCO was the platinum sponsor of the Ontario School Counsellors’ Association (OSCA) conference for the second
year in a row. The OSCA conference ran from November 10-12 in Toronto and attracted around four hundred
delegates from across the province. Highlights from the conference included:
Addressing the Delegates
CCO Executive Director Paul Kitchin and a career college
student addressed over 300 delegates before keynote
speaker Ian Hanomansing.
Engaging with Counsellors
Throughout the conference, CCO representatives and
career college students had the opportunity to engage
with counsellors and share information. We received a lot
of positive feedback about the sector and the association,
as well as increased interest in learning more about the
province’s career colleges.
Showcasing Student Talent
In conjunction with this year’s conference theme, “Diversity:
Vive la difference!”, we showcased a diverse selection of
career college programs and pathways. Students from four
member colleges participated in interactive demonstrations
at our booth.

Still not using CCO’s Financial Aid Office to process
OSAP applications?
Read this testimonial from Tony who recently switched the processing of
their students’ OSAP applications to our office:
“I must say that I am impressed with the responsiveness of CCO so far. Not only is
your organization quick to respond, but OSAP funding seems to be getting to the
student faster. Thanks for your help.” - Tony
