Dear Owner Plumbers Choice
I will be putting this on my Facebook
page.
I recently discovered my pressure
temperature relief valve was faulty on
my solar hot water service.
After a phone consult with my plumber
I decided to source one myself. I found a
mob called Plumbers Choice.
When they asked for my plumbers
licence number and I said that I didn't
have one, they announced that they
could not provide me with the valve.
Apparently it is their strict policy only to
ship to plumbers.
Now to me, this smells of saying as
customers we don't trust you. They
did suggest I could have my plumber
purchase from them. I feel they have a
real cheek suggesting I should provide
them with a customer after treating me
that way.
Moral of the story? Don't use this mob,
Plumbers Choice, whatever you do!
I will be sure to let everyone in my
network know about your (Trade Only)
policy.
As you can read our Trade Only policy
is not for everyone and that's the point.
Our tradesmen customers appreciate
what we are doing but that does mean
turning some potential customers away.
We clearly state our trade only policy
on our website. We have clear notices
on our building at all entrances, but
[WUM]VY]ITQÅMLXMWXTMLWVW\[MMU\W
get the message. When a DIY customer
arrives at the counter we politely refuse
service and suggest they call their local
plumber. It is interesting to note we had
a person from the marketing department
of a very large plumbing supplies test out
our policy and was rather embarrassed
when he was found out.
Yes, the policy does cost us some
sales in the short term, but the
encouragement and support we get
from plumbers across the country

Firstly, I'd like to commend you on your
trade only policy!
The second photo was taken in the same
week.
Everywhere I look these days I am
turning up to home handyman disasters
waiting to happen.
Again, the amateur home handyman
'plumber' didn't want to fork out for a
natural gas conversion kit for his BBQ
(available at Bunnings). After a trip to
said hardware store and some handy
'tips' from a salesperson (who explained
that natural gas would need larger jets
and a different regulator, etc) the man
improvised a regulator out of an old Oxy
acetylene regulator and then drilled out
the jets in the BBQ with a drill bit. The
Å\\QVO[_MZMIT[WUW[\TaOT]ML\WOM\PMZ
The customer offered to show me just
how well his creation worked, claiming
faster cooking and the added bonus that
the regulator was adjustable depending
on how many burners he had lit!! I
politely declined the offer of a demo
and explained that by law I could not
knowingly leave the appliance in that
state (it was also leaking gas). I capped
WNNPQ[OI[[]XXTaIVLVW\QÅML\PM81+
that I had done so. Surprise, surprise,
the very next day, after a chat with his
wife, the customer called me requesting
a quote to replace the entire gas line
and convert his BBQ back to bottled gas!
Needless to say, that's exactly what I did.
It has become too easy for consumers to
watch a DIY Youtube clip and then buy
products and supplies over the counter
and I am experiencing an alarming
number of very dangerous jobs including
KZW[[KWVVMK\QWV[Æ]MQVOLQ[I[\MZ[
and gas leaks, just to name a few
things. Most of these could have serious
consequences for the home owner and
\PMQZNIUQTa[W1\PW]OP\1LÅVITTa\ISM
the time to share the two most recent
doozeys I've seen!
<PMÅZ[\XPW\WQ[IVQUXZW^Q[ML_I\MZ
diverter on a waste pipe connected to a
bathroom vanity. The disturbing part is
that the very elaborate system took the
diverted waste water and temporarily
stored it in a garbage bin sunk into the
garden, but the water was not used
on the garden as you might expect!!!
When it was required the dirty water
was pumped up to a header tank in the
roof that fed a tap in the kitchen for an
alternate water supply for washing up
and doing the dishes!!
The potentially soapy, dirty and hairKTQXXQVOÅTTML_I\MZ\IX_I[VW\TIJMTTML
at all and had been in 'service' for over
ten years the customer proudly boasted!
Needless to say, after a lecture of just
how dangerous the whole system was, I
removed the entire mess at his expense,
pipes and all! I politely suggested the
Jim from J & AM Plumbing
was one happy plumber
when his Plumtool prize

Hi guys, here's one for you.
I have used Red Back Silicone Clean
=XNWZ[WUMaMIZ[VW_1ÅVLQ\I][MN]T
thing to keep in the van. I mostly use it
to clean up when installing basin and
sink wastes. What I found out recently
is that it is useful for removing cured
silicone.
Simply dampen a rag with the product
and hold it on the silicone you want to
remove. I held it there for about a minute.
It softened the cured silicone enough to

Step 1 Items required Styroscrew anchors,
suitable 7g or 8g screw, Phillips driver bit,
cordless drill.
Step 2 Using a Phillips driver bit, screw the
Styroscrew into the polystyrene wall until the flange
is flush.
Step 3 Place the clip or bracket over the
Styroscrew anchor and secure with the metal screw
you have selected.
