In mid-December, the Town unveiled a new website for Waxhaw at www.waxhaw.com.
In addition to providing information on Town Board and Committees and staff departments and functions under the Government and Departments tab, the new site has several features designed to keep you as Town residents in the know on Town business. Under the Community tab, you will find new resident information, a Waxhaw business directory, the Village News newsletter archives, and things to do in Waxhaw. The new Citizens Help Center allows you to apply for city licenses (business, dog), pay taxes online,
report a concern, review town ordinances, town maps and more. Under the Notify Me
button at the bottom of the page (the check mark in a box) you can sign up to be notified
by email whenever important town news is posted such as emergency alerts (road closures, crime alerts), job postings, town newsletter, and Town Board and Committee agendas and minutes. Check it out and watch it evolve over the coming months!

A Message from the Town Manager
Moving Forward
During 2012 your Town board, staff and volunteers worked diligently to help keep Waxhaw moving forward and be the best community possible.
We successfully held a number of events which brought many visitors to our downtown, and our branding efforts received an award at the NC Small Town Main Street Conference held in Clayton last January. Additional sidewalks were added through our Safe Routes to School program with additional sidewalk contracts awarded in December. Most of these sidewalks are being constructed in our older sections of town where there has long been a need for them. Renovation was completed on the old Town
Hall/Police Department located next to the David G. Barnes Park. This building has served the town
for many years and is now serving the town in a new positive way for many years into the future as a
Community Center. A contract was approved to restore the Waxhaw water tank. Like the old Town
Hall/Police Department, the water tank has served the town since the 1940s providing water to the
town’s residents until the tank was conveyed to the County and later abandoned. We have reacquired
the tank from the County and will be restoring it with the original silver with black letters. It is expected
to serve the town in a new and important role. Both of these structures stress the importance that we
place on our history. We completed our work on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and acquired
almost 10 acres of open space in our downtown that can be used for recreational purposes. We made
great headway on our downtown small area plan and are working on our sign ordinance and forms
based code. These accomplishments along with those of prior years are building blocks for the future.
One of the many things that I am proud of in the community that I serve is that we are not just sitting
still but we are moving, changing and preparing to meet the future. As a community it is vitally important that we prepare for the next generation.
During the month of December we were hard at work carrying out the Board’s desire to move forward
on municipal facilities. These facilities will have additional features for the entire community while fulfilling the need for a new Town Hall. We have acquired land in the downtown to site the facility and
provide additional downtown parking. This has been in the works for many years and has involved
building our savings account, conducting space needs studies, holding public charettes, and engaging
a well-qualified architect. We are also working to build a new police station. Both interest rates and
construction costs are currently low, so in essence this is the best of times to move forward.
As part of our ongoing outreach, we implemented a new website that was built with your needs in mind.
Providing interactivity, more and timelier information, the new site will help to provide a transparency in
government processes that is important to both citizens and staff.
From 2000 to 2010 our town grew about 275% and we currently estimate our population at around
13,000 people. The town limits are about 15.2 square miles. In 2012 we issued building permits for
316 additional homes. We are much larger than people realize and continue to grow.

Moving Forward

As we plan for the future it is important that we plan for all aspects of our community from streets, sidewalks, services, facilities and ways to improve the quality of life of our community known as Waxhaw.
In closing I want to thank you for being a part of our community. Whether you are a resident, have
your business here or visit or shop, I thank you. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance
to you. I may be reached at [email protected], 704 843-2195 ext 225. You can also stop by
Town Hall located at 317 N. Broome Street in downtown Waxhaw.

Have you ever thought about volunteering to help in your community? The Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department is recruiting new volunteers for volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) positions as well as our auxiliary and junior firefighter programs. The auxiliary's purpose is to
provide support to fire department operations by providing food and water during prolonged events, planning and hosting public events as well as social events for the department. The junior firefighter program is open to 15-18 years olds who have an interest in
learning more about the fire service. For firefighter and EMT positions we will provide the
necessary training. For more information about any of these positions, please contact us by

Business Spotlight
CMC-Waxhaw and Summerfield Auto Repair & Service Recognized
by Dorothy Maloney
CMC-Waxhaw, our beautiful 24/7 Emergency Department, was chosen by the WBA as the October 2012 Business of the Month. Located on Providence Road in Waxhaw, this facility provides such services as Advanced
Diagnostic Imaging, Primary & Specialty Care, and Laboratory Services, OB-GYN, General Surgery, Internal
Medicine, as well as Family Practice, Pulmonary services and Sleep specialties. A pediatric office opened last
month. Since its opening, more than 10,000 patients have been serviced at the Waxhaw facility. Alicia Campbell, Director of CMC-Waxhaw, suggested that the facility most likely has a favorable impact on the local businesses in Waxhaw, such as restaurants, shops, etc., that out of town consumers wouldn’t normally patronize. Another service provided to community groups is the Community Room. A very attractive, roomy community meeting place is offered to local clubs and organizations for their weekly/monthly meetings. Congratulations
on being chosen “Business of the Month.” Our community is happy to have your services! The Waxhaw Business Association meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the American Legion Hall.
