meet the interns
by Ali Knoll
Supporting local students has been an ongoing passion of
the four-generation-run Tucker family operation. We had
the pleasure of hosting three interns from three different
local schools participating in a six week program:
Elizabeth from Pedro Menendez High School, Rachel
from Creekside High School, and A.J. from Allen D.
Nease High School. The students spent twenty hours a
week gaining hands on experience with the Leonard’s
team. They developed and fine tuned their editing skills
in our Photographic Lab with our Digital Editing team,
they worked on various projects with our Visual and
Creative Marketing Department, and they even got to
create yearbook covers and layouts with our Designer
Yearbook Division.
4
Aside from working with our team on a daily basis, our
interns also worked on individual research projects on the
history of Leonard’s. Through their choice of medium,
they created a presentation on the history of Leonard’s
Photography that can be used for Marketing. This research
project was designed to help develop public speaking
skills, multi-generational speaking skills, strengthening
research methods, and meeting deadlines. Each intern
did an incredible job presenting the history of Leonard’s
in their own unique way. Rachel made a photo collage,
A.J. did a power point presentation on the History of
Photography in Leonard’s, and Elizabeth created a video
comprised of animations, photos, and information. We
are so very proud of them and we know they will go far!
~Elizabeth Bunjo~
Elizabeth is a rising senior at Pedro Menendez High School.
She participates in her school’s Color Guard and Winter
Guard and is a member of the yearbook class. She is a bright
young lady who works hard to achieve her goals. She has
been fortunate to have an influential adult in her life. “My
grandmother has always inspired me to push my art and strive
for excellence,” Elizabeth stated.
Upon graduating high school, Elizabeth is most looking
forward to getting her degree and moving one step closer to
her career. Elizabeth plans to go to FloArts in Jacksonville
to pursue a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design. She
thoroughly enjoyed working with Leonard’s this summer.
She really impressed the entire team at Leonard’s, especially
the Editing Department. “Elizabeth was extremely dedicated.
She completed every task we gave her and actually enjoyed
doing it. I think she looked forward to coming in to work with
us. She truly became part of our team!” said Debbie Bates,
Photographic Printing and Editing Supervisor.
~Rachel Sizemore~
~A.J. Hlavac~
A.J. will be graduating from the International Baccalaureate
program at Allen D. Nease High School with honors next
spring. She is an incredible student and she participates in
many extracurricular activities. She is part of her school’s
newspaper staff, Interact Club, the National Hispanic Honor
Society, and she is on the yearbook team. “My experiences
from yearbook help me with my studies. The design aspects
and work environment are similar to the type of tasks I
hope to do in college,” A.J. told us. A.J. is also active in her
community. She volunteers for Second Harvest and various
Betty Griffin House projects.
Upon graduating from high school, A.J. anticipates attending
college. “I plan on studying Mass Communications, which
includes graphic design, layout design, and advertising. One
of my dream schools is Savannah College of Art and Design!”
A.J. said. She is most looking forward to experiencing college
life and discovering new places and cultures. A.J. did such
an incredible job on all of the projects she worked on at
Leonard’s.“I was really impressed with the skills that A.J.
demonstrated in her first days with us. She brought a fresh
design perspective to our department and did a fantastic job
laying out our new quarterly magazine,” said Robert Parker,
Creative Design Coordinator.
Rachel was our intern from Creekside High School. We were
so fortunate to have had her! This incredible senior will be
graduating with honors next spring. She is the President of
Best Buddies, on the Tennis Team, and participates in the Art
Club, National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society,
National English Honor Society, and National History Honors
Society. Not only does she fill her time with extracurricular
activities, but she is a major part of her community. Rachel
volunteers at Julington Creek Elementary tutoring students
and teaching Spanish.
After graduating from Creekside, Rachel plans on attending
Art School. “My goal is to pursue a career that involves art
and possibly computers because those are two areas I really
enjoy,” said Rachel. “We were all so impressed by Rachel’s
passion and creativity. She chose to make a collage for her
research project and we were very proud of how well she
presented it,” stated Ali Knoll, Marketing Coordinator. She is
most looking forward to life after high school and getting to
live on her own and embracing her independence. Her most
challenging undertaking thus far has been preparing for and
taking the A.P. tests. “I told myself that I have done all that I
could and I trusted myself and ended up passing all of them!”
Rachel told us. When asked if a picture is truly worth thousand
words, she replied, “Yes! Each person interprets things in their
own way so a photo can represent different things to different
people.”

his month we are excited
to spotlight one of our Senior Ambassadors from
Creekside High School,
Brent! This rising senior is an incredible athlete. Not only does he
participate in football and
lacrosse, he is a member
of the National Honor
Society, Best Buddies,
and the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes.
Brent is also active in
his community by refereeing flag football games
and helping out with Field
of Dreams. “During this
time, I was able to help special
needs children achieve their sports
aspirations,” said Brent. Sports play a major
role in Brent’s high school career. “My most
memorable moment of high school would
be when I experienced my first varsity football game. I worked very hard so I could
contribute to my team,” Brent stated.
his life. “Through all of my years my father
has always been there for me with a positive
attitude. If something bad has happened,
he always works through it rather than give
up,” Brent explained. This is something
Brent lives by, especially during
rough times. His most
challenging undertaking
thus far has been standing
by his uncle through his
battle with cancer. “I
helped give him the
courage to continue,”
Brent
said.
Brent
continues to maintain a
positive attitude in all he
does in life. When asked
if a picture is truly worth
a thousand words, Brent said,
“Yes! A picture is worth a thousand
words because it can hold so many different
meanings and memories that can differ
from each individual.” Keep up the great
work, Brent! We know you will go very far
in life!

extracurricular activities and community
work, Casey also has an after school job.
She works as a team member at Chickfil-A. “This experience has helped me gain
good communication and decisionmaking skills as well as getting
along with others,” Casey
said.
Casey is very excited
for her senior year and
heading off to college.
“I am most looking
forward to my first
year of college and to
experiencing living on
my own and making my on
decisions. I plan to get involved
with clubs and sports, and I am
excited to make new friends,” said Casey.
When asked if a picture is really worth a
thousand words, Casey replied, “Yes! So
many ideas, themes, emotions, and feelings
can come from a photograph. Everyone looks
at a photo differently.” Way to go, Casey! We
are so proud of all of your accomplishments!
We wish you the best for your senior year!

Darrian
his month we are proud to spotlight Darrian from Bartow High
School. This inspirational senior
is one of the most determined and
hardworking students we have
had the pleasure of working with. She has had
to overcome quite a bit in her life. Darrian is
heavily involved in her school’s FFA. “I have
my own swine breeding program at home. It
helps bring unique experiences to my studies,
especially in my agriculture and biology classes,” stated Darrian.

Upon graduating from high school, Darrian
plans to further her studies at Polk State College.
“College is a must!” Darrian said. She will be
studying nursing. She is most looking forward
to college life and starting a new routine. Her
most challenging undertaking thus far has been
overcoming her serious illness of light induced
seizures and finishing high school. Throughout
her high school career, Darrian has been
very fortunate to have had the support of her
guidance counselor Ms. Duncan. “She always
understood my medical condition because she
has one as well,” said Darrian. When asked if
a photo is worth a thousand words, Darrian
replied, “Yes! Leonard’s allowed me to have
professional photos taken for the first time
since fifth grade. It was a wonderful experience
to have photos again!” Darrian was nervous
about the effect the flash would have on her
condition, but her mom said, “Seeing Bill lead
Darrian through her issue was wonderful.
It is a blessing when someone can help your
child overcome her fears and be able to do
something that most people can do without a
thought.” We couldn’t be happier for Darrian
and we wish her the best of luck!
