2016 SSUSA SEASON BEGINS
Winter Worlds – Phoenix
Git R done steps into the SSUSA 2016 Season in 2015. Confused? Yes! But we “All” showed
up and played ball. We kicked off the 2016 Season with many successes and some would’ve,
could’ve and should’ve(s). Our story begins with a “SHOUT OUT” to our 70’s Team, who won
their Championship. Acknowledging our 75’s Team looking to improve our 65’s, who took 2 nd,
and our 60’s who hung in there despite their Manager going down with broken ribs! Wow,
what a beginning!
70’s Championship – Caliber Play!
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS !!!

NEW TEAM, NEW LOOK, GREAT RESULTS !
We did an outstanding job for our FIRST outing. What a way to start the 2016 season. You should be VERY
PROUD of your efforts! THANK YOU ALL for a beautiful WELCOME to the GIT ‘R’ DONE 70’s. I am also pleased
you like your new uniform jerseys.
As you know this was a RING TOURNAMENT in ADDITION to QUALIFYING us for the Tournament Of
Champions in FLORIDA in 2017. As well, we are allotted to SELECT 5 PLAYERS to the ALL Tournament Team
for this tournament. The 5 selected will be determined by your votes. As teammates you SHOULD select
WHOM is to REPRESENT you by YOUR selections. I ask that you review the ENCLOSED Tournament STATS
AND everyone’s, I mean EVERYONE’S PLAY throughout the tournament in making your selection. Please
consider defense, consistency, and not JUST ones Batting AVG. I will hold the TIE breaking vote in the event
there is a tie for selection. PLEASE PROVIDE ME YOUR SELECTION(S) by next Wednesday, NOV. 25 as I have to
submit to SSUSA by Friday. Again, PLEASE base your selection on a teammate’s OVERALL contribution to OUR
CHAMPIONSHIP WIN!
A REMINDER TO ENSURE EVERYONE IS FAMILIAR WITH THE DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS ON THE Ring(s) we can
purchase; EVERY Player is authorized to purchase a RING or WATCH as aTournament CHAMPION; The
Player’s that you select to the ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM are Authorized to purchase an ALL TOURNAMENT
ring or watch as well.
For those that I didn’t get to I have some TEAM GRD patches that are $10 each. Should you want one let me
know and I will get it to you in the mail or at the NEXT tournament.
As I mentioned, THANK YOU for supporting me as your NEW MANAGER & garnering us a CHAMPIONSHIP on
our FIRST outting. I know I do some things differently than you returning 70’s are use to. I appreciate that
you accepted some of my differences/selections. Those that did confirmed my belief that you are TRUE
TEAM PLAYERS.
Before I review our games I would like to acknowledge a few achievements by several players that I think
were key to our success;
BATTING AVG’S
TEAM AVG - .642 An outstanding team effort.
o ED NILSEN - 1.000
o JON NEWELL - .917 - WITH 4 WALKS
o BRYAN WILKINS - .750 - WITH GREAT PITCHING
o JERRY McGEE - .727
o GREG KREBS & JOHN FLECTCHER @ .667
RBI‘s
o JIMMY HANSEN led the team with 11, thanks to the bottom of the LINE UP doing their part &
getting on base.
o JOHN REDNER had 9 thanks to Jim & Donnie being on base as well.
RUNS SCORED
o JIMMY HANSEN & DONNIE STERNBERGER LED THE WAY WITH 11 EACH. Both had 2 walks,
TOTAL BASES
THIS IS TELLING - Jimmy had 20 total bases due to a HOMER, 3 Triples, 2 Doubles & 3 singles Which does
not include 2 walks.
Eddie had 18
Mikey had 13 which 3 Triples helped provide.
GAME # 1
TALKING ROCK - AAA - 9 / GRD 12
We were spotted 5 runs for these 3 AAA games. Early morning & 47 degrees at game time but we were
undeterred. We started slow, which seems to be a GRD standard. We were consistent in that we scored in
every inning. Defense was a little spotty & rusty but we held on to log our first WIN.
GAME # 2
CHICAGO STRIKERS - AAA - 7 / GRD 17
Eddie & Jon kept up their competition for the 1.000 B/Avg. Triples, doubles & walks helped with the scoring
in every inning. Defense was much better this game as the weather had improved by 10 degrees by end of
game. Bottom of the lineup was on a roll in this one. Mikey had 2 of his Walks. Defense was improved as
everyone was becoming bit more comfortable with NEW partners in the infield & OUTFIELD. Donnie was
making some outstanding catches in Right Center & keeping guys from taking xtra bases due to his return
throws to the infield.
GAME # 3
HAWAII - AAA - 30 / GRD 14
GREAT HITTING & DEFENSE throughout the game. This was our 3rd. game of the day. Weather had greatly
improved & NO WIND. We were home team & entered top of the 7th. inning only down by 2 runs. If we
continued with our stellar defense & consistent hitting we felt that we could actually defeat our third AAA
team of the day. UNFORTUNATELY, I can say as I was pitching, or thought I was. These guys TURNED INTO
the ’27 YANKEES. Please believe me when I say - I DIDN’T LOSE IT & START THROWING ‘COOKIES’ for these
guys to hit….I was ON & throwing strikes like I had the entire game. I had 2 strikes on 3 guys & they would
swing at the 3rd pitch that was 14 feet high & 18 inches off the plate for any kind of hit. 12 - yes, TWELVE
batters came to the plate before we got the FIRST OUT IN THE 7TH. THEY REALLY RAINED ON OUR PARDE BY
SCORING 16 runs in the 7th. We came to bat & got 3 hits & were out. They definitely eared & deserved their
WIN.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME(s)
On Wednesday, GRD was scheduled to play YAVAPI CASINO, Prescott AZ. for the Double AA championship for
our division as we two were the ONLY DOUBLE AA teams. Our schedule was the ‘BEST 2 of 3 games.’ We
have met them before & split our games. There was some bad taste in the mouths of the returning 70’s as
these guys had worked them over at the World Masters in Oct in Vegas.
GAME # 1
Warmest morning yet, 58 degrees at game time. The first 2 1/2 innings were telling me we had eaten too
much Mexican food & drank too many Marguerites the night before as we were DOWN 7 runs and nothing
seemed to be working. I think we just are a group of late starters maybe, as we did score 3 runs, but then in
the next inning they scored 3 but we came back for 4. THEN we apparently ‘SHOOK OFF’ the night before as
we held them scoreless the next 3 innings WHILE WE logged two 5 run innings & went ahead to WIN 17 to
10…… Outfield defense was good & consistent hitting, even though late, won the day.
GAME # 2
We wasted NO time in getting started as we DID NOT want to play the ‘if’ game & we weren’t going to give
these guys anything. We were here to WIN! WALKs, lotsa WALKS, a HOMER, coupla TRIPLES &
OUTSTANDING DEFENSE helped WIN this game. Actually, we were on such a roll that I believe we broke their
spirit in the Fourth Inning. Our Defense was tight, coordinated & we were hitting as well as holding them
scoreless for 2 innings. Their pitcher was tired & struggling & they changed in the 6th. We all really felt for
the new guy as he struggled mightily, but we continued to play our game. WE WON 24 / 9.
A BIG GRD &) THANKS to John Fletcher & Tony Maes for helping us out in this Tournament & our WIN as
we were missing some players due to injury, family business & work We appreciate ALL your efforts in
helping us become WINTER WORLD CHAMPIONS !!!
We have been invited to a ONE DAY, 1 layer, Tournament on Friday, DEC 11, for 3 games at BLD in Perris.
EVERYONE PLEASE let me know your availability for this one ASAP as I told them we would play. It will
provide us the opportunity to PLAY Together again & allow me the opportunity to evaluate the team.
Ladies & Gents, my THANKS for a great week! Our fans we do appreciate your support!
I look forward to MANY MORE HAPPY DAYS like these.
Til Next time,

75’s Tough Tourney–Looks to Step-It-Up!
Fellow Players,
The first tournament of 2016 season is over and the team finished fourth with two All-Tournament players
picked for Git-R-Done 75’s. They’re Gene Dick and Mike Wiemer picked by their fellow teams mates that
were at the tournament.
The tournament saw many different outcomes each game that was played. First game against Sidewinder’s
saw 13 hits and only 4 runs over 6 innings. Second game against Scorpions was a disaster with 6 hits and zero
runs scored, with their rover turning 6 double plays against us. Third game against Scrap Iron majors was a
13-16 lose with a vast improvement over the first two games, and it was the third game of the first day.
Second day against PDR Roofing major plus team saw us hit 13 base hits with 8 runs scored over 6 innings.
Second game of the day was against Fairway Ford which went 7 innings compiling 17 hits and 6 runs in first
loss of the elimination bracket. Third game of second day was against Lighthouse in which we went 8 innings
with 26 hits and 14 runs to get us the win. The game ended with a triple play by us..an infield fly to the
pitcher which was dropped, but called by the umpire. Then the pitcher picked up the ball and threw it home
to get the runner trying to score from third base(Out #2). Final out of the triple play was when the catcher
threw the ball to the shortstop for the tag on the runner trying to advance from second to third. This final
outs was done in the 8th inning.
Third day we played against Fairway Ford making it the 7th game of the tournament. We were able to get
21 hits and 11 runs but unable to produce any runs in 3 innings of the game. Final results saw us finish 4th in
Page 5 of 10
our division of 7 teams. There needs to be more consistency on defense and less errors by everyone and
mental awareness of what is happening every play made. I know we have great potential with our 75’s team
and I feel we did well for our first tournament with our players playing together for the first time.

I want to thank Nancy and Carl for their help and thank all of our fans that watch the games. We started all
games at 8:00 am every day, not fun for us old guys. Our team picture is attached (thanks Nancy).
Thank you for going to Phoenix and your support. Looking forward to seeing you all in Menifee in January
2016.

65’s Take 2nd – Improvement Noted!
I have been Managing Senior Softball 8 years. I have never seen a team improve to the extent that
you men did this past tournament! We started off slow and as the Tourney progressed, we became
more of a “Team”, both in spirit and action. As always, scores do not tell the full story. The
improvement of the infield and outfield was palatable and quite impressive on the Defensive side of
the Ball. Offensively, we did well, but still need everyone to continue to hone their batting. We need
hitting through-out our line-up. None-the-less we were at .591 Team B.A., not bad. Our goal is .650
with an Average Runs per game of 18.
Overall I am very pleased on how you guys came together in this Tourney.
GRD VS 911 aa WIN 14 - 13
We start off, fumbling our way through this game. We were in one word “Fortunate” to have won
this game. We only had 1 zero inning, but we had 4 1 run innings! We had 2 “nickels” in the last 2
innings, which secured the win. 911 led in every inning except the last inning, hence our victory.
Congrats to Johnny C and Donnie, our only .1000@ hitters in this game.
GRD VS Scrap Iron AAA Loss 27 to 14
We play against a strong Scrap Iron AAA Team. They were out to finish us off quickly. We stayed
with them pretty well. Score in the 5th inning was GRD 14 – SI 16. The 6th, we managed to score 1
SI scores 5. 7th inning SI scores 7 to finish us off. There you have the game. We experience 1 zero
inning.
We have several players who batted 1000%. They are: Donnie and Tommy.
GRD VS Duke City AA Loss 16 to 6
Our worst offensive game! Out of 7 innings, we had 5 zero innings! Games like this happen. Not a
lot to say. We just did not play up to our abilities. Good teams pick themselves up and move
forward. As we all know, we did move on. Still, the game is in the books. You don’t score, you don’t
win. We had no .1000% hitters, not a surprise.
GRD VS Duke City AA Loss 13 to 11
In one word “controversial”! This game was won, not on the field but on questionable score
keeping and umpire confusion. We can account for at least 2 runs that were in question. The “NonCall”, where Ray was ran into by a Duke player at second. The allowance of the umpire on a run in a
previous inning to be counted. We could not prove the run was scored, but because Dukes had a
scorebook, they were giving the benefit of the doubt. Despite the fact that we confirmed the score
after each inning with the umpires and agreed that the score was accurate, only to be changed due
to Dukes scorekeepers changing her mind and the umpires agreeing. Still, we showed some
competitive fire when we flip-flopped and proceeded to score 8 runs, making the final score 13 to
11. So you can see that the “2” questionable runs turned out to be critical. We didn’t lose, Duke
won on 2 controversial umpire decisions that went against us! Also, we had 4 zero innings. Not
good.
One important thing that did happen, was our effort in the 7th inning when we scored the 8 runs!
That was “huge” in our confidence building. I believe to a man, we felt we could compete, this was a
big step in the right direction.
We had 2 .1000% hitters in the names of Jimmy Z and Tommy, well done.
GRD VS 911 Win 15 to 11
A Tough game! We pulled this game out of the fire. 911 played their best game against us. You
could tell they played hard, they were more aggressive and would not give in. This was an
important win in our improvement as a Team. We held it together winning the game in the last
inning scoring 2 runs after 911 scored 5 runs in the top of the inning to take a 1 run lead. We
scored in every inning and held 911 to 3 scoreless innings. Overall, a well played game by both
teams. We had only 1 1000% hitter, congrats to JimmyMac.
GRD VS 911 Win 23 to 6
Game was over before we even stepped foot on the field. You could see that 911 was just tired and
whipped. 911 had not won a game in the Tourney. It was like “Let’s just get the game over.” We
proceeded to smack the ball all over the field. Their tired legs were obvious. We did hit the ball
well, they did not make a lot of errors. Like their determination in the previous game, we showed
that determination in this game. We had 4 “Nickels” outstanding! Only played 5 innings so hitting
was spot on! We had no zero innings!
We had “6” hitters who batted 1000%! They were Johnny C, RayRay, Bobby C, Artie, Bobby B and
JimmyMac. WOW!
GRD VS Duke City Championship Game Loss 19 – 14
Well, we play for all the marbles. Unfortunately, Duke City took our marbles to take the game and
the Championship. We played a spirited game. Just wasn’t to be. Duke City proved that they were
the Team to beat. They not only won every game in our Division, but they also beat 2 AAA Teams!
Guess you could say they were unbeatable! We did play with heart, we hung in there and fought to
the end. In fact, we had the lead 13 to 11 in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning, Duke City exploded
with 8 runs in the Top of the inning, pretty much securing the game. We managed to score only 1
run in our half of the inning. Duke City deserved the Win, but I have to point out that we had 3 zero
innings. Did that make the difference? I’ll let each of you make the call?
We had an all around good game with some of us pounding the ball at a 1000%, Artie and RayRay.
Way to strike the ball men!
Defense:
Defensively, we really came together! As I have already noted, you guys showed real skill as the
Tourney progressed. Our Outfield was steady, making plays they should have and sprinkling in
some catches that were worthy of replays! Our infield was an experiment in the making. Wasn’t
sure what to expect? But to say the least, our infield came together very well. Our flexibility in the
infield was outstanding. We turned numerous Double Plays. We have the makings of an All-Star
Infield. Pitching was good, Bill R did a yeoman’s job of pitching. Bob C stepped in to pitch well in
his one game and will be called on to pitch more games in the future. Well done gentlemen!
Offensive:
Some congratulations are in order for outstanding Offensive numbers.
 Artie “Clause” pounding the ball at .722 BA leading the way. Also, 2nd in slugging % at .889.
Tied for 2nd at .700 OBP.
 Donnie Getting er Done at a .700% B.A. tied at 700% OBP for 2nd.
 Fred led the team with hits at 16!
 Jimmy Z solid BA of .650, led the team in slugging % at 1.050 and bases with 21.
 Bob C solid also at a .650 B.A and OBP.
 Tommy hitting a lofty .667 B.A. and OBP, slugging % of .722.
 JimmyMac hitting at .667 B.A and OBP, joining Tommy, keeping the bottom of our Line-up in
play.
Those hitting .600 B.A. and higher were:
 Fred at .640
 Johnny C at .636
 RayRay at .611
 Dennis at .600
Overall, well done for our 1st Major Tourney.
All Tourney Players:
Because of our 2nd place finish, we had the pleasure of selecting 4 ATP’s.
I am proud to announce that we chose the following players:
 Bill R
 Jimmy Z
 Artie
 Donnie
All well deserved. The voting was close as expected. Just want to recognize all of us! We “all” did
well!
60’s Injured Manager – Still Plays Tough
Well done this weekend, but more important, this team showed its exciting potential. We learned a lot so we
ask you to continue to be flexible as we assemble the best possible combination of play/positions, but
contact me if you'd like to discuss your particular situation. We play in the largest division in SSUSA. In Vegas,
the 60AAAs had 40 teams entered. This time, we were down to only 13, but this was the best of them and
we competed into Sunday, nice job!
Appreciate everyone's support with my broken rib, but once I get these horrific back spasms under control,
I'll be on the mend (ETA for my return is January at Menifee Tourney). Our next Tourney is December 5-6 at
Big League Dreams in Perris. Fees will be $30 with more logistics to follow. The stats below are respectable,
but I don't think they reflect that we consistently hit the ball hard.
Tournament Summary:
Loss: vs. Sidewinders (AZ) 21-24
This is one of the best teams in our division. We quickly put up two nickels and then couldn't keep up with
them until the open inning when we scored ten runs and put the tying runs on base before falling short. Ed R.
led with 3 hits and 4 RBI, including a booming grand slam. Anthony had 3 hits and 5 RBI. Craig, Jerry, Dennis
and Steve also had 3 hits and Ronnie was 4 for 4.
Win: vs. CJ&X (AZ) 16-10
This is the team that eliminated Grants Posse Saturday Night from the tournament. They stymied us for 3
innings, but we kept our defense tight until we got our offensive engine in gear. Craig and Ronnie were 4 for
4, while Dave N. and Larry were 3 for 3.
Loss: vs. Team Texas (TX) 5-16
On the very first play of the game, I dove for a ball and landed on it with my ribs. After they scraped me off
the field, guess I took away some of our mojo. Craig and Eddie had 3 hits each, but otherwise, we should
probably just forget about this one.
Loss vs. Full Throttle (TX) 17-23
This wasn't that bad a game. When we score 17 runs, we should win, but we had a terrible time with the sun
in our eyes. Would love to play them again. Dave N. led with a 4 for 4 performance and 3 RBI. Mark had 3 hits
and 4 RBI while Gary and Rob had 3 hits each.
Win: vs. Bucky's Casino (AZ) 11-8
This was the key elimination game that allowed us to move into Sunday (always our goal). Over the years, we
had never beaten Bucky's Casino...until now. Craig was a perfect 4 for 4 while Mark and Dennis each had 3
hits and 3 RBI. We played exceptional defense and had solid pitching from Steve.
Loss: vs. Cal Extreme (CA) 6-20
Having beaten Cal Extreme the last time we played them, we seemed to be on a roll, especially when we
rolled a nickel in the first inning. Then, we were out of gas and never made much noise after that. Ed R was 3
for 3 while Craig, Anthony, Mark and Jerry all had 2 hits.
Summary:
A big team welcome to Ed R, Anthony, Dave N, Brad and Tim (not at this tourney).
Welcome back to Eddie G (from injury)
Welcome back to Gary (filling in on reserve)
We should all be very encouraged with our initial progress and can't wait until December when Jano joins us
and then I can't wait to return in January. Great start, but it's just that...a start. Let's go Git-R-Done, thanks!
Ronnie
