A Message From The President
Dear Friends,
The year of 2014 saw much activity at Our Lady’s Inn. One hundred seventy four women along with their two
hundred thirty children found shelter at the Inn. Forty three infants were born to mothers in residence. The
management team prepared for accreditation renewal for a second 3-year term from the Commission for
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Strengthening our financial oversight, a Finance Director was
hired; and realizing goals outlined in our strategic plan to support program staff and be poised to expand our
mission, the administrative functions moved to a new administrative center at 8790 Manchester Road. The move
provided much needed room for administrative business and meeting space while easing the crowded facilities
for the program staff at our homes. This new space, centrally located and on public transit lines, allowed as well,
the opening of an Aftercare Support Center, a drop in facility we had been planning for some time.
Underlying and of note amidst all the activity is the array of services Our Lady’s Inn provides for the health,
education, and well being of the women we serve. This two-fold embrace of women in crisis and their unborn
child as well as their dependent children, is the mission of Our Lady’s Inn. Professional, degreed staff, with a
passion for our mission is what makes our internationally accredited agency a home for women in crisis, for their
babies and families.
Our year ended with our agency sound and financially strong. Benefactors and friends blessed us abundantly in
our 33rd year of operation. As we face 2015, we stand solid in tradition, with long term employees and faithful
supporters, strengthened by the vision and fervor of new board members and new staff. Together we welcome
the challenges to provide “… a room at the Inn” for many more women in crisis.

IN-SHELTER PROGRAM
In a safe and loving environment each woman
is supported by a case manager offering her
guidance and structure to assist in her effort to
achieve her individual educational, parenting,
employment and stable housing goals.
Women share in household chores, learn parenting and life
skills and establish a daily routine. They attend workshops
and training programs in stress management, household
budgeting, smoking cessation, domestic violence prevention,
healthy relationship building and employment readiness.

Offering classes in nutrition, childbirth, breastfeeding,
newborn care and other related topics, staff nurses also
advocate on behalf of the woman for appropriate pre-natal
and post-natal care as well as pediatric services for
her children.
Staff counselors assess the psycho-social supports needed
by each woman, offer emotional and mental health
counseling, substance abuse treatment referrals, as well as
referrals for other psycho-social needs.
A Resident’s Story
Ella spent many years of her life living with her mother, who
suffered from severe mental illness. She cared for her mother
and served as the parent in the relationship. Care of her mother
became an overwhelming financial burden; her credit was
ruined, she was unable to maintain housing and became
homeless. Shortly thereafter she discovered her pregnancy.
She moved into Our Lady’s Inn where she remained until several
months after the birth of her son. When she moved from the Inn,
she once again attempted to be the care giver for her mother,
but this time she had Our Lady’s Inn staff to assist her in obtaining
the professional mental health care her mother needed and
she was able to get her mother into a permanent supportive
housing program.
Finally, Ella was able to focus on her new son and on her own
needs. She found an apartment close by the Inn so that she may
continue to receive the emotional support she needs to continue
in her journey of motherhood and independence. She is now
living in her own apartment, while working two jobs which cover
rent and expenses. She is making good, safe and productive
decisions about her life; and her mother is cared for. Ella found
safety, support and most importantly, hope for a better future at
Our Lady’s Inn.
AFTERCARE
When it is time for a family to leave the
Inn, two years of Aftercare case
management is offered to them. Working
with the family through home visits,
office visits, monthly newsletters, and
telephone calls, the Aftercare staff provides additional
referrals where needed, including transitional
housing referrals.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
Our Lady’s Inn has a 4-unit, one-year transitional housing
program for mothers ready for more independent living,
but requiring more intensive program support than
others. Supported by an on-site house mother, each
mother transitions into a fully furnished one bedroom
apartment with her children where she assumes the
duties of running a household while being closely guided
by her Aftercare Caseworker and OLI program supports.
