May 2015 Perquimans Chamber Newsletter The Perquimans Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Country Shack to historic downtown Hertford April 23 with a ribbon cutting featuring owner Sonia Davenport and staff. The new restaurant's slogan says Country Shack is "where our family feeds your family" and is located at 107 S. Church Street. Restaurant hours are Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 6 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information call 426-1312. Rhonda High with the North Carolina Department of Revenue conducted an informative workshop April 15 on the use and sales tax changes in store for non-profit organizations. The free seminar was well-attended at the Carolina Moon Theater and sponsored by the Perquimans Chamber of Commerce. Have you heard Chamber Conversations? Ginger O'Neal with the COA Small Business Center shares information on what the center offers small businesses. From banking to home businesses, the Conversation is open to all. Join the conversation. We want to hear what you have to say. Small Business Tip of the Month This month's Small Business Tip is by Cathy Wilson, Chamber Assistant Don't Break the Bank on Photo Software Using attractive colorful photographs that speak volumes about your business is a must for today's growing businesses. But, thanks to a number of free online photoediting websites, you don't have to break the bank on expensive photo-editing software to get those perfect photos or photos that add fun to your business projects! As the office assistant here at the Chamber, I take advantage of the excellent, free classes offered by COA's Small Business Center. I have learned much in those classes, including several websites that offer really good photo-editing software that is free to use. Those of you who know me know that I love to take pictures. I also love to edit those pictures and hopefully create even better pictures than I started with. There are lots of photo-editing software you can use, but one of my favorites is iPiccy CLICK HERE Not only can you edit your pics normally but you can also add frames, add effects like snow, and literally create pieces of art using your very own pictures! I love this website...and it is FREE! PhotoMania is another fun site, but watch the ads...they look like they are part of the editing software and will transport you to another website if you click on them. Other sites that are fun to use are PicMonkey, PhotoFunia, and http://funny.pho.to Here's an example: I made this using my photo of the historic Perquimans County Courthouse. Enjoy taking photos and enjoy editing them! Have fun! And, please take advantage of the classes offered to small businesses through COA's Small Business Center. Take my word for it...you will learn a lot that can be put to good use in your business. Check it out! COA Small Business Center A Word from Director Sid Eley Is Your Business Prepared for Disaster?
