Sites are available at five of our parks, with more than 600 sites throughout
our small state. Most family sites have water or
electric hookups and many have both. Several sites are
secluded, walk-in sites for tent camping for those who
want to escape to a spectacular natural setting.
Six year-round cabins feature two rooms, an oversized screened porch for dining, heat,
A/C, grill, nearby bath and shower facilities–all in a secluded area near the edge of the
campground. These cabins are a big hit, so book your stay early!
Cottages at Indian River Marina
Twelve fully-furnished, year-round vacation cottages await you along the water on the
north side of the Indian River Inlet. Each cabin sleeps six and comes with amenities such
as a kitchen, bath, heat, A/C, screened porch, TV, washer and dryer, parking and so much
more. Regardless of the season, the cottages offer spectacular views of the inlet.
Firewood, Ice and More
Our campground stores are stocked with all of the things you’ll need without ever leaving
the park. Be sure to stop there for your ice and firewood. To protect our local species, please
use only local firewood. To be sure, purchase your firewood from the camp store.
More to Know About Camping

What to Do

Horseback Riding: Equestrian programs are available from Wellspring
Stables in Bellevue State Park and at Sunset Stables in Lums Pond
State Park. Lums Pond also has four equestrian campsites. Horseback
riding is permitted seasonally at Trap Pond, Cape Henlopen and
Delaware Seashore State Parks.
On Foot:
•
Sports: Ball fields abound in Delaware’s State Parks. Multi-use fields
and playgrounds, including the innovative Can-Do Playground at
Alapocas Run, are found in our parks throughout the state, and seven
state parks have disc golf courses.
• Hiking: No matter where you are in Delaware, grab your walking shoes
and head to your nearest state park to hike through forests, urban
settings or along the beach. Many of our trails connect with greenways
and have a variety of surfaces for great accessibility. Trails vary in
length from short nature hikes to all-day treks and even multi-day
adventures.
On Water:
•
• Bird Watching: Birdwatchers will enjoy looking for migrating hawks in
Brandywine Creek, Cape Henlopen and White Clay Creek State Parks.
Head down to the beach to see more hawks, Osprey, Piping Plovers
and other shorebirds. The heronry on Pea Patch Island is home to nine
different species of wading birds.
• Marina: Want to go boating? The Indian River Marina is
a full-service facility at the Indian River Inlet in Delaware Seashore
State Park. The marina offers amenities such as a public boat ramp,
fuel dock, dry storage, waterfront café, bait and tackle shop, charter
and head boats, cottages and more. The office building has meeting
space overlooking the Indian River Marina.
• Rock Climbing: The rock climbing area
of Alapocas Run State Park is situated
in a serene part of the park. Summer
day camps and public programs yearround teach the basics of rock climbing.
Top roping and rappelling, with the
proper permit, are just some of the fun
activities you’ll find there.
• Fishing: Surf fishing is one of the most popular sports at our beach
parks. Dune crossings allow vehicles with the proper permits to drive
on the beach. Freshwater fishing is also a favorite at Bellevue, White
Clay Creek, Trap Pond, Killens Pond and Lums Pond State Parks.
