Dear Volleyball friends,
The 2016 edition of Europe’s elite competition got started already a few months ago as our Volleyball
family came together in Vienna for the annual European Volleyball Gala and the much anticipated
Drawing of Lots held at the Hofburg Palace.
Since its establishment more than 15 years ago, the CEV Volleyball Champions League has
continued to evolve and become a benchmark in terms of excellence, both on and off the court. It
has also helped us spark a real Volleyball fever across Europe as you can always sense the great
anticipation that goes with it anytime the Champions League comes to town.
This year as many as 52 teams – 28 men’s and 24 women’s – are set to vie for continental honours
and I am extremely happy that a number of them are real rookies, which means that the CEV
Volleyball Champions League is expanding its horizons year after year and Volleyball of the finest
level will be made available to an even larger audience.
If Europe’s elite Volleyball competition has been marching from triumph to triumph, a lot of credit has
to be acknowledged to the participating clubs and to their respective National Federations, who have
always shown their readiness and determination to walk hand-in-hand with the CEV in our efforts to
deliver a Volleyball show which knows no equals worldwide.
At the same time, we owe our gratitude also to our title sponsor DenizBank, which has been at
our side for three straight seasons now and has shown remarkable enthusiasm and dedication in
supporting our mission to deliver the very best Volleyball show out there, as well as to our long-time
partner Mikasa, which has been with us right from the start of our ‘Champions League journey’.
As I look forward to a record-breaking season, I wish to all of you a lot of fun with the matches
of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League as well as the very best of luck to all

Foreword by TRENTINO Diatec President Mr. Diego Mosna
With pleasure and pride I welcome the return to PalaTrento the CEV Champions League, the most
popular and prestigious European club competition.
Trentino Volley returns to the continental stage confirming its natural propensity for international
competitions. The City, its Province and its fans have always had a special feeling with Europe: some
of the most beautiful emotions of our sporting history have been lived mostly by participating in this
tournament. To recall the three consecutive victories in the first three participations, between 2009
and 2011, including the one achieved in Bolzano in front of our people at the end of the Final Four
highest level.
These successes, also from an organizational perspective, allowed us to make known the City
of Trento worldwide and gain esteem, respect and visibility which are recognized in international
volleyball.
This is why I can say with certainty that Trentino Volley would never have been the same if it hadn’t
participated in the Champions League, but with a touch of pride, I can also say that probably not
even the Champions League would have been just as captivating without Trentino Volley and its
many champions.
Therefore it is a strong bond, which further strengthens thanks to this seventh participation in the
last eight years and that always see me as the first supporter of our team in this latest European
adventure. After the surprising victory of the Italian title in 2015, we want to keep astonishing our
fans with international results up to our coat-of-arms with a renewed and younger short list, which
can count on many products of our breeding ground (5 players of the new short list have grown up
in house).
Leaving aside the sporting aspect, I would then emphasize the worldwide exposure that we will
guarantee to our partners and sponsors thanks to their presence in this competition: in the last
season, just to talk about recent datas, the CEV Champions League has benefited a total of 400
million viewers and 5,300 hours of broadcasted games in European TV, thanks to the participation
of twenty more nations in the competition. An extraordinary result that will increase even further, due
to the success of the internet portal www.laola1.tv, which will broadcast live streaming all the games,
and to the agreements with leading broadcasters in Europe, of which I will point out, that Sky Italy will
broadcast the matches on Fox Sports channel .
There is no ingredient missing to live another extraordinary season of CEV Champions League: we
are ready to begin. Enjoy and good luck to Trentino Volley!

1st placed as well as the 5 best second placed qualify for the Playoff 12.

During the League Round CEV negotiates with interested organizers. The organiser of the Final
Four will be determined after the end of the League Round and qualifies directly to the Final
Four. The team of the organiser will be replaced by the next 2nd placed team with the best
score.

The remaining 2nd placed team as well as three 3rd placed teams with the best score will be
moved to the Challenge Round of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup.

All remaining 3rd and all 4th placed teams are eliminated from the competition.
