As it turns out, I had multiple pulmonary embolisms and was lucky to be alive. It greatly diminished my lung capacity, and I am not take “blood thining” meds. As I recovered, we realized my health required that we move out of “Big Snow Country.” In February, we took a 2 week vacation and stumbled onto Marriott’s Resort in Palm Desert, California. We liked the climate and scenery so much that we decided to move there. We live in a gated resort community for active adults. My health has improved and I am playing golf and softball and am doing a lot of hiking with a hiking club. However, my wife’s brother and family are only 1-1/2 hours from here. I still get to watch the Bulls and White Sox on WGN and the Bears on either FOX or CBS at the 19th Hole. I had lunch with Frank Zara and Martha about 2 months ago in Palm Springs. Bob Mahnke Sales San Antonio, TX ********** A new year is just about to begin and what a year it should be. The political scene should be heating up along with global warming. Funny thing, both are just a lot of hot air. It should be fun to watch , however. Not much new going on here in San Antonio. We are in the midst of a severe drought and can water our parched lawns only once a week, and shower only with a friend, a really close friend, twice weekly. Seriously, it is very dry and if El Nino doesn’t come through with some rain water in the near future, we will be in real trouble. Nancy and I are doing a bit of traveling of late. We were on a land tour in China for about three weeks last June and will be going to the Antarctic in January ’07 and hope to be dancing with the “Happy Foot(ed)” penguins on that frozen continent.. Going to the Antarctic was my idea and in order to get Nancy to go, I had to agree to take here to Paris. This is called blackmail in some circles. We are going to Paris in May. That’s about it. We are both feeling fine with just a few aches and pains and are looking forward to a great year. Thanks for the great job on the newsletter.
