 All students have a Stritch email account; this is your “Wolfmail.”
 Wolfmail is a Google account through Cardinal Stritch University.
 When you were accepted to the MAT/MAIE program, a letter was mailed to your home. Your user name and
password will allow you to sign on to both email @wolfmail.stritch.edu and your student MyStritch accounts.
 Wolfmail is the required communication method for Instructors, Assignments, Financial Aid.
 Your user name and password also allow you to sign on to all campus computers.
 Wolfmail can be forwarded to a private email address, but this is not recommended by the university.

Your new MyStritch log-on information was sent with your Wolfmail password. It is not the same account
you had as an applicant.
You will need your user name and a password to access this site. If you do not have this information, please

Canvas
“Canvas” is the Learning Management System that is used for
all Stritch courses.
• Each course that you are enrolled in will be available in Canvas. You
will access the syllabus and other course materials through Canvas
• If you are taking an online course , you will work through Canvas to
access the course
• Once you have received your Stritch login and password, you will be
able to log into Canvas at https://stritch.instructure.com/login
• A link to Canvas training is on the bottom of the home page of the
course should you need further instruction on how to use Canvas
MAT/MAIE Group Page in Canvas
MAT and MAIE students have access to the “MAT/MAIE Programs Group” in Canvas, the
University’s learning management system. The MAT/MAIE Programs group contains important
program information. Some of these items include:

• Program documents (e.g. MAT/MAIE Handbook, Wisconsin Teacher Standards)

You will learn about Canvas during your first course (EMA 500/EMA 501).You will also receive
the information you need to access MAT/MAIE Programs Group during your first course.
Registration Information
COHORT - GROUP REGISTRATION PROCESS
During the week of January 4th, you will be automatically registered for your Spring 2016 courses
and moving forward will be automatically registered each semester for courses.
Prior to this registration, you will not be able to see any courses listed for your Spring 2016
student schedule. A student schedule will be available on MyStritch after the automatic
registration has taken place.
DEGREE COMPLETION (additional 3 courses)
After you finish your certification requirements, registration for the remaining eight credits of
degree completion coursework must be done individually with your advisor.
Registration Information, continued
DROPS & WITHDRAWS
You can drop a course before the course begins. You will not be charged for a
dropped course. After a course has started, you can withdraw from that course
up until the 2/3 point of the course. The specific withdraw date will be listed in
your syllabus. Students are charged for withdrawn courses.
SEVEN (7) YEAR WINDOW
University policy requires that all credits applying toward a master’s degree must
be completed within seven (7) consecutive years.
Financial Information
•
A $100 tuition deposit is required to confirm your seat in your cohort. This deposit
will allow us to process your group registration. The tuition deposit should be submitted to
the University Business Office.
•
Your tuition bill will be generated after you are registered and you will find your tuition
charges on your MyStritch account during the first week of classes. Payment arrangements
are due upon the posting of the statement.
•
Tuition payments can be made by check or by credit card through MyStritch or by phone,
mail, or in person through the University Business Office in Bonaventure Hall. Please contact
the Business Office at 414-410-4232 if you have questions about your tuition bill.
•
Tuition for the 2015-2016 year is $640 per graduate credit.
•
Graduate Student fee is currently $190 per semester.

You may apply for a Stafford Loan at any time during the MAT/MAIE program.

Financial aid requires 3 completed forms before an award can be determined:
1) FAFSA application
2) Entrance Counseling
3) Master Promissory Note

•Exact Financial aid awards are calculated by Cardinal Stritch University’s financial aid office.
•Award results are emailed to students via their Wolfmail email account.
•A reply from student is required to confirm the dollar amount of loan award accepted.
•Direct Loan checks are sent to the Stritch Business Office, where funds will be applied toward your current
tuition statement.
•Financial aid refund checks will be mailed to students 14-21 days after classes start.
Payment Plan
A payment plan is an excellent way to make monthly payments on your account.
Cardinal Stritch University offers payment plans that allow you to make interest-free
monthly payments instead of a lump-sum payment at the beginning of each term.
This is not a financial aid student loan. Payments are complete by the end of the term.
There is no interest charged. Stritch does not charge an administrative fee.

ID card photos will be taken during Super Saturday. (Smile )
You will receive your Cardinal Stritch University student ID card during
EMA 500/501.
Your ID card barcode is needed to access materials from the library.
You will need your student ID card as identification at your Field
Experience schools.
Parking Sticker
Free! There is no charge for parking at any Stritch class site.
Madison students do not need to register their vehicles.
Milwaukee Campus students must register their vehicle on MyStritch:
•After logging in to MyStritch, click on the “Stritch Resources” tab and then the “Parking at
Stritch” tab.
•Stickers will be available within 1-2 business days after submission.
•Pick up stickers at the campus Copy Center in BH 070. Hours: Monday-Friday,
8:00am-4:30pm or after hours by appointment. Phone: 414-410-4500. Must show ID card.
•Portable hanging parking pass is available for $1.00 for use in multiple vehicles
•Parking Lot #3 is convenient to Bonaventure Hall. Evening students do not have assigned
parking lots.

MAT/MAIE students purchase their own textbooks.

Note: Students in the Elementary cohorts will purchase their EMA 511 (second course) books
according to their chosen certification area (EC-MC or MC-EA). Contact Stephanie if you have
questions about your certification area.
Textbook Ordering
Textbooks are available through the University Bookstore and can be purchased at the
Bookstore, online, via fax, or via telephone.
When ordering books online, students can choose to have their books delivered to the
Stritch campus bookstore or to their home (a $7.50 fee is charged for home delivery).

Stritch uses “LiveText,” an electronic central repository system. All Stritch students are
required to purchase a LiveText subscription.
You will use LiveText to submit and store various MAT/MAIE program assignments, to
create your electronic portfolio and to submit your edTPA assessment.
You’ll begin using LiveText in your first course.

Plan to purchase your LiveText subscription before the start of the
Spring 2016 semester.
Your LiveText subscription is active for 5 years so you will be able to use
it throughout the MAT/MAIE certification program and beyond. At the
end of certification coursework, you may choose to give potential
employers access to your electronic portfolio.

Technology Requirements
MICROSOFT WORD 07
Successful participation in the MAT/MAIE program requires competency in the use of electronic media.
Students must have regular access to a personal computer for email, word processing, graphic
presentations, and the use of internet for research and networking. Students should have the latest
version of Word 07. While not required, it is strongly recommended that MAT/MAIE students
have a laptop to use during the program. If you need to use a laptop occasionally, laptops and iPads
are available to check out through the Stritch Library.
SYLLABI ONLINE
The MAT/MAIE program is dedicated to becoming as paperless as possible; therefore, your instructors
will not be distributing paper copies of syllabi. Many instructors will email their syllabi prior to the start
of class and all syllabi will be posted on MyStritch. You may print your own copy of a syllabus.
PORTFOLIO
Be sure to save all of the assignments you create in your MAT/MAIE classes; you should also save
completed rubrics, field experience paperwork, and benchmark paperwork. You will need some of this
material when you assemble your Portfolio in EMA 580/582 Seminar II.
Printing
Cardinal Stritch University uses PaperCut, an eco-friendly print management
solution. Students are allotted 400 print counts per semester; each black-andwhite page is one count and each color page is five counts. Additional print
counts may be purchased in the library for $0.10 each. Each time a student prints,
they are alerted of their print count and must confirm the print job.
The library has four black and-white printers,
two high-quality color printers, and one
multifunction color printer. There is also a
computer lab located in the lower level of
Bonaventure Hall, BH031, with printing
capabilities.
Field Experience Placements
EMA 530/531 - Field Experience I placements will be distributed to students by
your instructor during the course EMA 511/EMA 513 - Fundamentals of
Instruction and Assessment.
All Field Experience 1 placements are made within an approved partnership
school that is located within a 25-mile radius of the Stritch Main Campus and the
Madison Center.

Field Experience Placements Continued
You should have submitted your “New Student Field Placement Questionnaire”
form to your Placement Coordinator. If you have not submitted this form, please
do so right away. The Placement Office needs this information to coordinate field
experience assignments.Your Field Experience I course begins during the week of
January 25th. The New Student Field Placement Questionnaire can be found here .
Note: MAT/MAIE students who already have a Wisconsin Teaching License must
also complete the “Student Teaching Evaluation Form.” The form can be found

Criminal Background Checks
Two criminal background checks are required for all students. These are
done prior to Field Experience 1 and again prior to Student Teaching.
Students will complete criminal background check paperwork in class.
The fees for processing your criminal background checks will be added to
your Stritch tuition bill when you are enrolled in Field Experience 1 and
Field Experience 2 or 3.

Praxis II
Plan to take the Praxis II test within the next few months.
Praxis II information can be found on the
Educational Testing Service website www.ets.org/praxis.
The Praxis II test you take is dependent upon the license area you choose,
so be sure to confirm this information with your MAT/MAIE advisor
before you register for the test.
Dropping or Withdrawing from Classes

Class Attendance
Attendance is required.
If an absence is necessary, the student shall inform the instructor personally that he or she
will be absent, prior to the class. Students are responsible for securing class notes,
assignments, and/or handouts. The instructor may also ask the student to complete an
alternative assignment reflecting content discussed during his/her absence.
Specific attendance policies can be found in the MAT/MAIE handbook on
MyStritch.
Tardiness:
You are expected to arrive at class on time and remain for the duration.
Two (2) tardies or early departures are considered equal to one absence.
Weather Procedures and Emergency Notification

announced on the local TV and radio stations,
on the Stritch homepage under “news,” and on
the University’s switchboard telephone
message system.
Stritch also has a state-of-the–art emergency notification system called
e2campus that is capable of delivering alerts to all registered mobile
phones, Blackberry’s, wireless PDAs, pagers, Smart phones, and e-mail
addresses. You can register for e2campus on My.Stritch. Select
“Emergency Notification System” and follow the instructions.
Tutoring Services
All Stritch students have access to free on-line tutoring services through
“Smarthinking” and the Online Writing Lab (“OWL”).
These services can be very helpful to graduate
students seeking assistance with writing papers. Smarthinking and OWL can be
accessed from the Student Support page on our website

The Academic Support and Career Education Offices are located in
Bonaventure Hall in the “Student Support” area.

Offers snacks and typical grill food and is open until 8:00 p.m.
Collectivo Coffee at “The Bean”
Operated by Stritch undergraduate students to earn mission
money, “The Bean” offers fine teas and coffees. Located in
the Student Union.
Serra Dining Hall provides breakfast, lunch and dinner
cafeteria meals which can be purchased at a discount with
your student ID. Check the Stritch website for union and
dining room hours.

Purchase a student membership
1. In the top-center of the page, select Purchase/Register.
2. Click Purchase Membership.
3. Select Your Student Membership in STEP 1. You will need to click on the package you wish to
purchase. Enter Your Personal Information in STEP 2. Create Your LiveText Account in STEP 3.
4. Complete the registration process by completing and verifying the required information and
acceptance of the Terms of Service.
5. Click the Almost done! Continue to Billing button. Enter your billing information.
6. After successfully completing the registration process, LiveText will display the Congratulations
page. This page will display your username and the option to click to reveal your password.

You can set notifications to email you when certain activities have happened in your LiveText account,

How do I submit a file or LiveText document to my instructor for an
assignment?
1. From the Dashboard, find the assignment and click on the corresponding Begin Assignment
button.
2. On the Assignment page, review the Assignment Details and Instructions and when you are
ready to get your file(s), click on the Attach Files button. (Note that you will not be able to
submit until you have attached at least one file.)
3. Click the Browse button to choose a file from your local drive. Alternatively, click on the
LiveText Documents tab to submit a document you have already created in your LiveText
account, or click the Previous Files button to attach a file you have already uploaded to your
LiveText File Manager.
4. Click Attach Selected Files when you have attached all of the necessary files.
5. Type any optional comments you wish to send to the instructor and click Submit Assignment
when you are finished.
6. A confirmation that your assessment has been successfully submitted will appear and the
assignment status will change to Awaiting Assessment.
Submit an Assignment using a Template that has been assigned to you
1. Log into a student LiveText account.
2. Find the assignment and click on the corresponding Begin Assignment button.
3. On the Assignment page, review the Assignment Details and Instructions and when you are

How do I view a completed assessment?
1. Find the assignment and click on the corresponding View Assessment button.
2. On the Assignment page the grade will be shown in the upper right corner in green and the
assessment results will be shown below the Assignment Details and Instructions. If there were
multiple assessors, each will have their feedback provided in separate sections.
Use LiveText to store files (File Manager)
LiveText users have a way to upload and manage files independently without having to create
documents in the system, like a flash drive. The File Manager allows users to upload and manage
external files and images such as Word, Excel, PDF, PowerPoint, and text files in one centralized location.
Basic navigations in the File Manager allow users to manage, rename and/or delete files, as well as
create and manage labels. This feature is located under the Tools tab.

Click the Tools tab located in the top center of the screen.
Click on the File Manager tab.
Click on the Upload Files/Images tab located at the far end of the section.
Click the Browse... button.
Select the file from your computer.
The file automatically uploads. Once the file is uploaded to the File Manager, a "Completed"
message appears under the file's status. To remove, click the Remove button located across
from the file name.

Master of Arts in Teaching /Master of Art in Inclusive Education Program
Policies for Field Experience and Student Teaching Placements:
All initial certification teacher candidates must complete 100 or more hours of field experience in schools during their
program to qualify for student teaching. Previous experiences do not qualify; substitute teaching does not qualify.
Professional educators are qualified to teach all students. Placements are made with the intention of giving the teacher
candidates multiple experiences that will shape their professional development. Experiences in the field in Stritch teacher
preparation programs will provide some of those experiences.
The placements will be determined by Cardinal Stritch University based on the following factors:
1. Candidate’s certification area
2. experiences with children in a variety of grade levels
3. experiences with children from different socio-economic levels
4. experiences with children from a variety of cultures
5. experiences with children with varying degrees of academic, social, emotional and physical abilities
Overall, the teacher candidate’s placements are in a variety of urban, suburban and rural environments.
Placements may be in public, charter or private school environments.
Field experience and student teaching placements will be within approximately 25 miles one-way from the Cardinal Stritch
University area / Stritch site area.
To avoid potential conflicts of interest, teacher candidates will not be placed in schools where they or their family members or
close friends attend/ed or are employed - or with which they or their family members or close friends have/have had an
affiliation as part of a related organization (i.e. school board, district partner organization). Exceptions may be requested in
cases of large districts with numerous schools (public districts in areas of large population such as Milwaukee and Madison).
Candidates are placed in Stritch partner schools for Field Experiences. Partner school experiences allow Stritch faculty to
observe and provide feedback to candidates in their pre-student teaching experiences.
Placements are based on availability of cooperating teachers who meet DPI criteria and have been recommended by their
principal or district administrator as models of best practice.
Teacher candidates plan to complete Field Experience hours with visits to the placement 1-2 times per week for 3-4 hours
each visit. The regular schedule allows for consistency for pupils and facilitates supervisor observation of growth and progress.
Candidates will be unable to complete all field experience hours during an extended break (such as a district’s spring break).
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction defines Student Teaching as “full days for a full semester.”
Student teaching candidates may apply for an out-of-area student teaching placement providing other field experience
placement requirements have been met. Candidate input on out-of-area student teaching placement will be considered but
suggested areas cannot be guaranteed. Extra charges may be required for out-of-area supervision.
Placements are based on availability of cooperating teachers who meet DPI criteria and have been recommended by their
principal or district administrator as models of best practice. It is important to note that cooperating teachers may choose
whether they prefer one quarter or one semester placements. It is important for candidates to keep in mind the numerous
reasons a school or district can or cannot accept student placements and that school and district availability varies from
semester to semester.
It is important for the candidate to understand that a range of experiences (districts and grade levels) is seen as a positive to
potential employers – they will neither expect you to have student taught in the district nor in the grade level of the potential
position. Districts, schools and their personnel change constantly – if you demonstrate that you can teach in different settings
and in 5th grade one year and 2nd the next, this is a plus!
It is strictly prohibited for students to contact schools regarding placements in any way. Schools and districts depend on the
University to complete the details of the placement process with the teacher candidate, to contact the appropriate personnel,
and to follow district and/or school protocol.
