Adventure News!
Summer 2016
Calendar & Newsletter
letter from Foster
I am so excited to see that we are having longer days and warmer nights! Yes, spring has finally sprung as
you can see by all the wild flowers that have been flourishing around the Central Coast. One of my favorite
ones is the orange California poppy. For some reason it always catches my eye in the most artistic fashion.
Unfortunately, it takes a lot of light to grow these poppies. If anybody is interested in learning more about
how to grow your favorite flowers and/or plants, you are welcome to attend the free weekly Our Shared
Garden program. I want to introduce to you SA’s new garden teacher to take over instructing these classes.
His name is Eli Cooper and he comes at a great time of year to teach everyone about the variety of things
we grow in the shared garden space. Please take this opportunity to come out, learn something new in the
garden, and greet Eli with a big warm Shared Adventures welcome!!
This time of year is always one of the busiest and most exciting for Shared Adventures activities. Almost every week we have two or three things going on, plus we have added some new events that I am sure you’ll
want to enjoy. Each activity we do is unique just like the participants that we serve. Everyone has a story to
tell and we can all share that story and adventure with the activities that we do.
In two months everyone’s favorite event, Day on the Beach, will be happening on July 16th. This year’s
event we are planning an even more diverse array of entertainment. Last year, the aerial dancers and Magic
Makers band were two highlights on the beach that made it very exciting for everyone. We’re planning to
have additional rollout mats on the sand to accommodate more wheelchair users to get to the outrigger canoe and SCUBA activities. Registration starts on June 16th so please mark your calendars and soon you’ll
be enjoying the 24th annual Day on the Beach, one of the most impressive events that Santa Cruz has to
offer!
Take a look inside our Summer Adventure Newsletter, pick an activity you find inviting, tell a friend or two,
and come out and have an adventure of a lifetime!!
Sincerely,
Foster N. Andersen
