All Day We are excited to announce that we are hosting the 2014 USTA NorCal Adult Sectional Championships. Come out and watch some great match play. Matches begin at 8 am and continue all day. All courts will be in use, so please plan accordingly. Most of us have limiting beliefs and some emotional issues that sabotage our energy and performance levels. By efficiently clearing out these mental blocks we will be more alive, alert and happier at whatever we do. Marc Zimmerman has developed powerful techniques to efficiently achieve these suggested results. Come visit and explore the possibilities. Sign up at the front desk. Sign your kids up this month to enjoy a night as a juice maker. With help from our staff, they will make simple and fresh juices using fruits, veggies, and their own imaginations. Join us for Joakim Westman’s follow-up workshop on achieving peak performace. This month’s workshop will build on the techniques and strategies of the first session, while giving first timers a brief recap on goal setting & motivation. The themes of session II will include imagery, relaxation techniques to combat anxiety, and centering techniques. Those new to the workshop will receive an individual free consultation. CVAC NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2014 Notes From The General Manager Generally Speaking Respected Members of Carmel Valley Athletic Club, I hope you have all been enjoying summer and the incredible weather we enjoy regularly here at CVAC. Those of you who like to bask in the sun around our pool have certainly been enjoying all the new lounge chairs which arrived just in time for the warm weather. Some new umbrellas were also added for those who prefer a little shade. We are aso excited to annouce that the television program “The Good Life” will be filming segments for their upcoming season. The show focuses on helping others to live a healthy vibrant life. It’s about living a life of wellness that makes you feel great and keep your outlook on life positive. The topics will be endless from fitness to healthy products, dance and everything in between and beyond. For our tennis playing members, our Tennis Director, Mike Zury, and I have some exciting news. This September, all our front courts are scheduled to be resurfaced with fresh court paint. We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience as we expect the whole process to be completed in about a week. More details to follow. Thank you for all the constructive feedback regarding recent changes in our locker policy. Per many suggestions, we have modified our previous policy. Now, lockers not currently rented will be available for day use (only) and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lockers are still available for rent for $20 per month and can be assigned by a front desk attendant. Please remember that locks and contents will be removed if left in “day use” lockers overnight. Finally, a link to the right of our online newsletter provides an updated version of our Club’s Policies & Procedures. Members are also free to pick-up a hard copy from one of our friendly front desk team members on their next visit to the Club. His class begins with about 10 minutes of gentle supported “restorative” poses, followed by a standing warmup, and slow motion sun salutations eventually leading to the all important “savasana” as final relaxation. Greg has 20 plus years teaching in the Monterey area: 1987-2011 at CVAC and 1992 to present at Monterey Sports Centeer plus a few years at Carmel Fitness, Chamisal, Post Ranch Inn and a half dozen other places. Greg is an avid motorcycle racer, artist, active member of the Santa Cruz Comedy Coalition, and frequent showcase comic in the Santa Cruz and Bay Area. NEW PILATES REFORMER INSTRUCTOR! Please welcome Hugh Talman. After exercising and being involved professionally with the exercise and physical therapy fields for several years, Hugh has come to realize the importance of a balance between strength and flexibility, and emphasizes a high level of detail when training and coaching a client. Hugh’s comprehensive Polestar Pilates training enables him to take into account faulty movement patterns, muscular imbalances and poor postural habits when customizing individual programs for clients. Reception, & awards ceremony Sunday after play Cost per player: $20 for first event $15 for additional events CVAC Club Championships. It is time to see who is the best of the best at CVAC. Starting the weekend of September 6th CVAC will be hosting the annual Club Champtionships. This will be a tournament draw with a double elimination format. Prizes will be awarded to winners and participation gifts will be handed out to all players. There will be an awards ceremony and party on Sunday, September 14th, following play for all participants. this event will be limited to CVAC members and signup sheets are located at the front desk. A, B & C divisions will be available and I will determine the final draws for play. Sign-ups must be completed by Tuesday, September 2nd. please contact me with any questions about the event. CVAC NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2014 Notes From the Pool The American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” Program is Good For Kids & Adults of All Ages. The “Independence Day” family party was a great success! We had plenty of sun and fun with awesome food provided by Brian Vazquez our Cafe, lots of Aquatics Director Swim Instructor water flotation toys and games, inner-tube races and prizes, a watermelon eating competition and the lessons) to 73 years of age (efficiency training). Speaking of aquatics, the American Red Cross “Learn-to-Swim” program is off to an outstanding first year here at CVAC. There have been over 45 students registered for the summer and even complete schedule sell outs!! The swim program has helped out students ranging in ages from 16 months (parent-tot students’ skills and understanding of swimming safety. As it is now, this is a seasonal program that runs from the first week of June through the second week of August. If there is any interest in lessons year-round, feel free to contact me at brian@ cvaconline.com. The aquatics program is also looking for a second instructor (preferably female) to help with the overwhelm- CVAC is looking for a friendly swim instructor to join our team, preferably female but not limited to. Must be 18 years or older & be available for appointments year round. Also, must have or be willing to attain W.S.I (American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor) Certification & C-pro (American Red Cross CPR/ AED for professional rescuers) Certification.
