Drop the kids off this August for a fun night of crafts and activities while parents enjoy a night out on the town.
Dinner is included. Sign-up in Kid’s Klub as space is limited. Cost is $12 / Child.
Join us for our Dog Days of Summer Tournament and enjoy high stakes play, a gourmet meal, and maybe even
the winning jackpot. Cost is $30 / Person. Reserve your spot at the front desk by August 20th.
All Day
We are excited to announce that we are hosting the 2014 USTA NorCal Adult Sectional Championships. Come
out and watch some great match play. Matches begin at 8 am and continue all day. All courts will be in use, so
please plan accordingly.
Most of us have limiting beliefs and some emotional issues that sabotage our energy and performance levels.
By efficiently clearing out these mental blocks we will be more alive, alert and happier at whatever we do. Marc
Zimmerman has developed powerful techniques to efficiently achieve these suggested results. Come visit and
explore the possibilities. Sign up at the front desk.
Sign your kids up this month to enjoy a night as a juice maker. With help from our staff, they will make simple
and fresh juices using fruits, veggies, and their own imaginations. Cost is $15 / Child. Dinner is included.
Taste delicious wines and gourmet appetizers provided by Chef Moises of the famed CVAC cafe as you mingle
with friends and fellow members.
Join us for Joakim Westman’s follow-up workshop on achieving peak performace. This month’s workshop will
build on the techniques and strategies of the first session, while giving first timers a brief recap on goal setting &
motivation. The themes of session II will include imagery, relaxation techniques to combat anxiety, and centering
techniques. Those new to the workshop will receive an individual free consultation. Sign-up at the front desk.
CVAC NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2014 Notes From The General Manager
Generally Speaking
Respected Members of Carmel Valley Athletic Club,
I hope you have all been enjoying summer and the incredible weather we enjoy regularly
here at CVAC. Those of you who like to bask in the sun around our pool have certainly been
enjoying all the new lounge chairs which arrived just in time for the warm weather. Some
new umbrellas were also added for those who prefer a little shade.
We are aso excited to annouce that the television program “The Good Life” will be filming
segments for their upcoming season. The show focuses on helping others to live a healthy
vibrant life. It’s about living a life of wellness that makes you feel great and keep your outlook on life positive. The topics will be endless from fitness to healthy products, dance and
everything in between and beyond.
For our tennis playing members, our Tennis Director, Mike Zury, and I have some exciting news. This September, all our front courts are scheduled to be resurfaced with fresh court paint. We would like to thank everyone
in advance for their patience as we expect the whole process to be completed in about a week. More details to
follow.
Thank you for all the constructive feedback regarding recent changes in our locker policy. Per many suggestions,
we have modified our previous policy. Now, lockers not currently rented will be available for day use (only) and
are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lockers are still available for rent for $20 per month and can be assigned
by a front desk attendant. Please remember that locks and contents will be removed if left in “day use” lockers
overnight.
Finally, a link to the right of our online newsletter provides an updated version of our Club’s Policies & Procedures. Members are also free to pick-up a hard copy from one of our friendly front desk team members on their
next visit to the Club.
Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you at the Club,
Daryl Piercey
General Manager

Welcome Back Greg
Welcome Hugh
GREG WILL BE TEACHING YOGA ON SUNDAY
His yoga class will be on Sunday at 1:00 pm, beginning
on August 3rd. His class begins with about 10 minutes of
gentle supported “restorative” poses, followed by a standing
warmup, and slow motion sun salutations eventually leading
to the all important “savasana” as final relaxation.
Greg has 20 plus years
teaching in the Monterey
area: 1987-2011 at CVAC
and 1992 to present at
Monterey Sports Centeer
plus a few years at Carmel
Fitness, Chamisal, Post
Ranch Inn and a half dozen
other places.
Greg is an avid motorcycle
racer, artist, active member
of the Santa Cruz Comedy
Coalition, and frequent
showcase comic in the
Santa Cruz and Bay Area.
NEW PILATES REFORMER INSTRUCTOR!
Please welcome Hugh Talman.
After exercising and being involved
professionally with the exercise and physical therapy fields
for several years, Hugh has come to realize the importance
of a balance between strength and flexibility, and
emphasizes a high level of detail when training and coaching a client. Hugh’s comprehensive Polestar Pilates training
enables him to take into account faulty movement patterns, muscular imbalances and poor postural habits when
customizing individual programs for clients. He hopes to
help people bring more awareness of their bodies, achieving
mindful and holistic movement with a strong foundation at
the core that will last a lifetime.
