Welcome
to the SchladmingDachstein Region!
W
e’re excited you want to enjoy your vacation with the
help of the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard.
With over 100 free vacation experiences and over 90 bonus
services, the Schladming-Dachstein Region’s Sommercard
has become one of the biggest all-inclusive cards in the
entire Alpine region.
Stay at a participating Sommercard lodging establishment
and your Austrian vacation is more affordable than ever
before! With the Sommercard, those unpleasant incidental
expenses are simply no longer part of the picture. Stay as a
guest of one of our Sommercard establishments between 25
May and 14 October 2012 – even if that’s just for one night
– and you’ll receive the Sommercard – without having to
pay one cent extra – to add to your already exciting vacation
experience. Enjoy one roundtrip ride on one cable car daily,
along with all other Card benefits – as often as you want –
including on your arrival and departure day.
And our littler guests also receive their very own Kids Sommercard as well. Over 23 holiday experiences especially for
children such as climbing, adventure parks, archery, pony
and donkey rides, canoeing, crafts, exploring and more are
included. An unbeatable vacation offer for families!
I wish all of our guests a wonderful, relaxing vacation in the
Schladming-Dachstein Region. I would like to thank all of
our accommodation providers and Card partners for their
dedication and outstanding cooperation!

“Natura Mirabilis” in the Nature
Park House, Großsölk Castle
Important Info & Tips:
Medieval Großsölk Castle, with its
mighty defensive walls, was the home
of nobility until the time it was taken
over by the Jesuits. Nowadays this
historic treasure of Sölktäler Nature
Park is used as a museum, showing
two different exhibitions.
“Natura Mirabilis”: In six exhibition
rooms at the castle, virtual notebooks
and other objects show how Johann
von Hohensee lived and conducted
his research 200 years ago. You will
hike along ancient trade routes, see
the eventful history of the castle,
be amazed by endangered animal
species, experience an avalanche
and hear the gentle sounds of the
moorlands and alpine tarns.
The Gold of the Hill Farm: In the
castle gallery, we present to you a
traditional product from our region’s
farms “Ennstaler Steirerkas”. With
films, texts and interactive stations,
you will gain insights into an ancient
cheese-making tradition, taking you
from the Middle Ages to our modern
world.
Art at the Castle: Modern devotional
paintings by Herbert Bauer
Surrounded by its medieval fortifications, the castle cafe invites you to
stop in and enjoy homemade herb
juice or a cheese soup. Close to the
castle you can visit St. Leonhard’s
Church and the Sölk Jesuit Garden.

Special exhibitions 2012:
BEYOND SEEING – Art forges ties
between the blind and the sighted
(25 March to 08 July 2012)
One rule generally holds true in
galleries and museums: Don’t touch!
But with these works of art it’s
different. In this exhibition, art can
be experienced in another – mostly
interactive – way. Depending on the
piece, you will be able to touch, hear,
smell and sometimes even taste the
exhibits. The sighted can actually
get a “picture” of what the world of a
blind person “looks” like.
BETWEEN REMEMBERING AND FORGETTING – Finiteness and Eternity
(14 July to 04 November 2012)
Birth, life and death, remembering,
fading and forgetting: the limits and the
in-betweens. This is the theme of this
exhibition. Everything has an expiry date.
No exceptions. And at the end? What
then? Benedictine Admont Abbey, with
its contrast-rich museum and its library,
provides an ideal venue for an encounter
with the most burning, timeless and current questions of our human existence.
For families: July and August –
every Friday from 05:00 p.m., special
child-appropriate guided tours, every
Sunday is Family Day with special
family tours.

Important Info & Tips:
Guided tours € 2.50 per person
Fixed tour time for individual visitors,
daily 02:30 p.m.
The lookout tower, open to the public,
affords broad views across the alpine
world of the Ennstal.
Trautenfels Castle is enthroned on
a rocky outcropping at the foot of
the Grimming. It was here that a
castle by the name of Neuhaus was
first mentioned in 1261. In the 17th
century, the building was remodeled
by Count Siegmund Friedrich von
Trauttmansdorff in the style of the
Baroque. The high-quality frescoes
were created by Carpoforo Tencalla,
the stucco work by Alessandro Sereni. Since the structure underwent
thorough rehabilitation work in 1992,
visitors are also surprised by modern
architectural elements in the midst
of this historic building. The regional
heritage museum housed at Trautenfels Castle presents the cultural and
natural history of the Styrian Ennstal
and Ausseerland regions in a series of
13 kaleidoscope-like rooms.
Special Exhibition 2012
The Grim Mountain
“Mons Styriae altissimus”
Only a few mountain edifices in
our Alps create such deep, lasting
memories as the Grimming. It rises
powerfully from the valley floor, first
in the form of gentle grassy hillsides
up to a broad fringe of deciduous and
evergreen forests, but then steeply
and precipitously with its fields of
scree and rocky cliffs. It stands there
alone, giving it the appearance of
an extraordinarily tall mountain. An
impression reflected in its medieval
title of “Mons Styriae altissimus”.
Accessible to people with mobility
limitations and those with learning
disabilities.

Important Info & Tips:
The Nickel Museum is a giant “walkable showcase” housing a permanent
exhibition which impressively documents the mining tradition of the
Schladming region. The central focus
is on the processing and subsequent
use of nickel, once and even now a
highly sought-after metal. Traces of
the past leave a lasting impression on
visitors, while the extraordinarily dan-
gerous work of the miners becomes
clearly evident. The imp, whose name
also happens to be “Nickel”, also
injects extra life into the exhibition
for kids, motivating them to learn
even more.

to conclude that Slavs, who settled in Styria from the 6th cent. on, continued
older mines and opened new ones, in order to exploit the mountains natural

Riesach Waterfall is the tallest
waterfall in Styria. From the Riesach
car park in Untertal, the alpine trail
“Durch die Hőll” takes you via a series
of stairways and paths and over a
suspension bridge, alongside the
Riesach Waterfall to the Gfőllalm on
the Riesachsee. This trail does require
you be sure-footed and not have
any dizziness issues, and from the
suspension bridge on is not suitable
for dogs or small children. The car
park is also the starting point for the
popular high-alpine Klafferkessel hike,
to the Preintaler and Gölling huts. We
recommend taking the hiking bus on
nice days. The “Wild Waters” theme
trail begins in Schladming and leads
through wild, untamed Talbach Gorge
to Untertal. The hiking path from
Schladming along the Untertal is a
rewarding hiking and walking experience for families and seniors. You
can get on and off buses at numerous

experience in gloomier weather. Bus

Teufelsstein (120 vertical meters).
Slowly the vegetation changes – the
increased humidity is reflected in
the plants which grow close to the
canyon.
Crosswise to the valley is the vein
of Sölk marble. Over the millennia,
Großsölkbach stream has eaten its
way through this extremely hard rock
– marble rocks are scattered along the
stream bed.
After a visit to the “Sand Beach of
Großsölk”, we leave Strub Canyon and
66
return to our original starting point.
Bad weather equates to danger in
the mountains! The hiking guide will
decide whether or not the hike can
go ahead.
After the hike to Strub Canyon, we
recommend visiting the Jesuit Garden
and Nature Park House at
Schloss Großsölk.

In- and outdoor program. After the
laboratory program, all guests are
welcome to tour Schloss Großsölk
incl. the “Natura Mirabilis” and “Gold

We offer our amateur researchers an
in- and outdoor program. The laboratory has different modules to choose
from: Forest, Water and Herbs. We
will begin at the castle by getting all
our guests in the right frame of mind
for the topic in question, before we
head outside. We will look for caddis-
fly larvae, marble, or stir up herbal
creams. A visit to Sölktäler Nature
Park is always an unforgettable nature
experience.
Surrounded by medieval castle walls,
the Schlosscafe invites you to stop
in, perhaps to enjoy their homemade

The Museum of Poaching is unique

original depiction of the history of
poaching in the Alpine region. The
historical and social background is
documented, as are the punishments
which awaited poachers, the fates of
specific poachers and the legendary
Poachers Battle of Molln. Based on
the ideas of famous cultural historian

shows the kitschy depiction of poaching in old movies, novels and songs, as
it does a number of original poaching

1,000 vertical meters!
4,500 m of trails!
Mountain bikers are raving about the
downhill rides on the Planai. The start
is at 1,830 meters, and is reachable
either on the Planai cable car or via
the toll road. Then it’s time to hit one
of the numerous trails which will take
you back down to the valley. Different
levels of difficulty allow even newcomers to the sport to explore the
Bike Park, for example on the Rookie
Trail and the Flowline. Ambitious
downhillers often head for the downhill course with a number of speed
jumps, while freeriders generally
prefer the Jack Lumber Trail, featuring
Northshore elements and demanding
no small measure of technical skills.
After you have clocked up a great
speed on the finish slope and dropped
down to Planet Planai at 740 meters,
you will be able to look back on a
truly fantastic biking experience. The
Alpreif Bike Center is your source for
expert advice and equipment, guides,
and is a great place to meet up. The
team around Sebastian and Elias
know every nook and cranny in the
park, and every screw on your bike.
Rental bikes are available to riders
with a minimum height of 1.50 m.
Minors must be accompanied by
a parent or guardian!; individuals

vegetables and herbs, medicinal
plants for the treatment of aches and
pains, meat-eating plants, poisonous
beauties and the stories behind
them, magical plants for love, riches
and beauty, along with other rare,
protected plant species.
And many return from our hikes with
some real gems in tow – such as
quartz as clear as glass, beautiful garnets for rings or necklaces, and much
more! And how could we ignore the
local wildlife! And if you sign up well

The following conditions are expressly stipulated for the issuance and
use of the Sommercard.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Definition
All persons who have lawfully acquired the Sommercard have the right
to take advantage of the services offered by all-inclusive partner businesses at no additional charge. The Sommercard allows all people who
are staying at any of the Card’s participating lodging establishments
during the Sommercard season, and who are registered with an officially
designated registration form, to take full advantage of the stipulated
services offered by Sommercard partner businesses. The services are
specified and listed in the brochure “Card Brochure 2012”. In addition,
there are also discounted services (Bonus Services), which are also
compiled in this same brochure.
Scope of Services/Liability Disclaimer
All Sommercard partner establishments listed in the brochure in question have obligated themselves to make available to holders of the Sommercard all of their advertised Sommercard services, both with regards
to time and quantity, in accordance with and with respect to their own
general conditions of carriage and business, this during their usual hours
of business and to their full extent. Holders of the Sommercard understand and accept that the operating times of some partners, primarily
due to weather- or season-related circumstances, are not always identical with the full time frame of the Card season. With some business,
there may be long waiting times due to capacity-related reasons.
The holders of a Sommercard declare their agreement with the listed
opening times, any and all access restrictions, as well as with the
maximum capacity as stated by participating establishments. Holders
waive any and all damage claims when, whether for operational reasons,
or due to no fault of the service provider, the services offered cannot be
provided, either in part or in whole. Furthermore, the service providers
are liable for gross negligence and premeditation, but not for slight
negligence. In addition, no liability exists for any accompanying clothing
or other accompanying valuables.
Holders of the Sommercard furthermore understand and accept that the
ARGE Schladming-Dachstein Card is entitled to end its agreement with
the individual Card service providers if there is important cause to do
so, even during the current season. No claims of whatever kind may be
asserted as a consequence of such action.
Conditions for Issue of the Sommercard:
The participating lodging establishment is obligated to draw the guest’s
attention to the Sommercard, regardless of the length of his stay. A
guest staying at a participating lodging establishment receives the
Sommercard from his host for the length of his stay. Precondition for
issuance of the Sommercard is that the guest, in accordance with legal
statutes, has registered with the establishment for the duration of the
stay. The Sommercard must be signed on the reverse side by the guest,
at which point the Card becomes valid.
Non-Transferability/Loss
The Sommercard is non transferable. The Sommercard is only valid when
accompanied by a photo ID. The Sommercard may only be used by the
person whose name and identification number are noted on the Card or
stored on the chip. In the event that the Sommercard is not utilized, no
reimbursement will be made. Should the Card by lost, the holder will be
charged € 3.00 for issue of a new one. A lost Card immediately becomes
invalid.
168
Validity
The Card season for 2012 extends from 25 May until 14 October.
The Sommercard is valid during this time period.
Rates
The Sommercard cannot be purchased on the open market. Only those
who stay in one of our participating lodging establishments and who
have officially registered as hotel guests in accordance with applicable
Styrian law, have a right to this Card.
Children
Small Children: As per the rate schedule for the 2012 season, “Small
Children” are those persons born in 2007 or younger.
Usage
To receive the benefits of the Card, the Card holder must present his
Sommercard. The service provider will check the Card with respect to
validity and identity, either with authorization equipment, or merely by
visually checking the Card details with regards to Card number and the
name of the holder. The Card holder is obliged to present a valid photo
ID if so requested. Failure to do so may result in his being denied full
services.
Damage
In the event of damage to or technical problems with the Sommercard,
the Card or tourist business will exchange the Card at no cost.
Misuse
In the event of misuse or any suspicion of misuse, participating Sommercard partners are entitled and obliged to confiscate the Card without
compensation. In the event of misuse or well-founded suspicion of
misuse of the Card, a formal complaint will be lodged. The Card holder
is liable for misuse of the Card by third parties. Theft or loss of the Card
obliges the holder to report the incident promptly to ARGE SchladmingDachstein-Card or the Schladming-Dachstein Marketing GmbH by calling +43 (0) 3687/23310. There exists no right to replacement of the Card.
Liability Disclaimer with respect to the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card
Holders of the Sommercard accept and understand that the SchladmingDachstein Marketing GmbH and the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card
are solely responsible for the transaction between holders of the
Sommercard and the service providers and the participating lodging
establishments.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Terms & Conditions
Holders of the Sommercard waive any conceivable claim with respect
to warranty or damages against the Schladming-Dachstein Marketing
GmbH or the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card, regardless of whether
the service provider or participating lodging establishment is blamable
for damages or not. Let it be clearly noted that – in so far as it may come
to an incident of liability – neither the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card
nor the Schladming-Dachstein Marketing GmbH is liable for such damages, the more so since neither the service providers nor the participating lodging establishments are adjuncts of the Schladming-Dachstein
Marketing GmbH.
Similarly, holders of the Sommercard may assert no claim for damages
against the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card or the SchladmingDachstein Marketing GmbH in the event that any services listed in the
brochure are not discharged by partner businesses.
Jurisdiction
For all disputes resulting from use of the Sommercard, as well as any
claims with respect to damages or warrantee, let it be so stipulated that
exclusive jurisdiction is held by the responsible Schladming courts and
that solely Austrian laws will apply.
