GOLF NEWS Tyler Young, Head Golf Professional A Message from the Pro The 2016 CCSC Golf Calendar is complete and it is time to get your golf game going in the right direction! Take advantage of some nice, January days by coming out and enjoying the best practice facility in the area! Make sure that you spend just as much time on the putting green as you do hitting drivers down on the range tee itself. Putting counts for 35-40% of most people’s scores. Those 5-footers really do matter! GOLF SHOP WINTER HOURS: If the temperature is below freezing the Golf Shop will not open until 9:00 AM!!! Congratulations In December we had our annual Winter Member-Member. We had a great turnout and everyone had an enjoyable time. Congratulations to all of the winners. 1st Flight 2nd Flight Low Gross- Rick Beasley & Tillman Britt Low Gross- John Mathes & Anthony Davis 1st NET- Ryan Watford & Dick Schirripa 1st NET- Tucker Mitchell & George Haliscak 2nd NET- Mark Gaynor & Derek Jokisch 2nd NET- Jon Hall & Allen Hall Upcoming Events With 2015 in the books the End of Year Shootout list is complete and the Shootout is scheduled for January 9th. It will be on January 16th starting at 10 AM. Bo and his maintenance staff will set the course up however they want to entice your nerves and see if you are a true golfer. This will be a two-man Captain’s Choice tournament based on 30% of combined team handicap. I am looking forward to another great year with everyone and appreciate all you do to support the Country Club of South Carolina. It will be a great year full of member events to participate in. AROUND THE CLUB Men’s Winter Member Member FROM THE GREEN Bo Cooper, Golf Course Superintendent This past year was very challenging with drought, then flooding, and unseasonably warm weather. Disease pressure was the highest it’s ever been in the Carolinas’ with some golf courses losing large amounts of turf due to Pythium fungi. We had some damage here but weathered the storm fairly well. As usual the cold weather will return these next two months and hopefully we’ll get back to normal with the turf going into dormancy rather than just hanging on such as it’s been doing lately. As good as the turf looks at present, our transition in the spring should be very good. The flood of October ravaged hole #17 pretty good but maybe something good came of it. We used a lot of the silt that was cleaned up to fill in a few bunkers which I’m happy to say were sodded a couple of weeks ago and are looking fantastic. We raised the cart path near where the fairway bunker used to be on 17 and that has provided much needed protection from the high water we got in Black Creek during the end of December. Our plans are to sod the bare area along #17 fairway so please be please be patient until we get that done which hopefully will be this month. We have roped off a few fairways for the winter playing season so please adhere to cart path on those holes. These ropes will only stay up during the wet season and then as we dry up in the spring, we will be back to normal with carts being allowed on those fairways again. I know it’s an inconvenience but please bear with us and it will make those fairways so much better for the spring golf season, your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Let’s make 2016 a great year and hope to see you on the course. 2428 AROUND THE CLUB LUCKY JACKPOT IN THE GRILLE ROOM Friday January 8th, 5-9pm Jackpot $300 Last Month’s Winner!
