Top teams on way through in Cup
There were no major surprises in the second round of group
matches in the Premier League Cup.
Barnet booked their place in the knockout stages and are
almost certain to finish top of Group One after a goal just after the
half hour from Stacey Sowden gave them a 1-0 win away to West
Ham Utd. Colchester Utd defeated Queen's Park Rangers 3-0
to go into second place, Sian Larkin bagging a double for the U's
either side of a first half goal from Flo Gamby.
Blackburn Rovers scored six without reply against Preston North End
and are set to win Group Two. Vanessa Leat netted the only goal of the first half, four
minutes before the interval, before Katie Anderton and Danielle Sheen scored in quick
succession after the restart. Nikki Twohig, Nicole Emmanuel and Nichol Forster
completed the tally. Rochdale went level on points with second placed Curzon
Ashton by beating them 3-2. Issy Hayes gave Curzon a first half lead which was
cancelled out after the break by Sam Fleck. Chantelle Parry and Steph Bell put Dale
two ahead before Claire Harrop grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
One match was played in Group Three due to Cardiff City having international
call ups for Wales under-19s. Watford and Coventry City battled out a 1-1 draw
which leaves the National Division side needing a win from their final game to go
through. Sarah Wiltshire maintained her good start to the season by giving Watford
the lead seventeen minutes from time, before Milly Durrant earned a share of the
spoils for the Sky Blues.
Brighton & Hove Albion are heading towards the Second Round after a
third minute goal from Kim Whitcombe saw them to a 1-0 victory over Gillingham.
Millwall Lionesses won 2-1 at Charlton Athletic to go second, Sarah Jones' early
strike for Millwall was cancelled out on ten minutes by Gemma Bryan, but Emma
Whitter popped up to settle the match in the Lionesses' favour, ten minutes from time.
Nottingham Forest are three points clear at the top of Group Five following
their 2-1 victory away to Leicester City. Jo
Potter put Leicester ahead via a 40-yard free
kick but Forest were level seven minutes later,
Natalie Clarke heading home a Catherine
Lawson corner. The winner came just before
the hour from a penalty disputed by the home
side, when Leah Rawle was adjudged to have
handled in the area and Lawson stepped up to
slot home the resulting spot kick and send her
team into the knockout phase. Lauren
Cresswell came close to adding a third for
Forest when she struck the woodwork.
Manchester City boosted their hopes of
qualifying with a 3-2 success at Derby

Beckford ensured that City were in front at the break and Lindsay Savage added a
third, before Jenni Anslow pulled a goal back for Derby.
Reading FC Women came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1 and
march into the last 32 from Group Six. Pompey led for much of the game through
Cassie Thorp's goal but late strikes from Gemma Sims and Mikaela Howell saw
Reading home (see match report). A last minute goal from Naomi Clipston salvaged
Keynsham Town a 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town, who had led from late in the
first half thanks to Jemma Tewkesbury.
In Group Seven, Cup holders Leeds Utd swept to the top of the table by
running out 4-1 winners over Newcastle Utd. An own goal from Jo Cartwright put
Leeds ahead and Carey Huegett added a double before the break. Beth Gardener
reduced the arrears for Newcastle nine minutes from time, before Leah Galton
rounded off the win for Leeds two minutes later. Sunderland came away from
Leeds City Vixens with a 3-0 victory, Natalie Gutteridge netting either side of the
interval and Kiera Ramshaw adding the other.
Yeovil Town striker Jemma Tewkesbury is
confident that her side's tough start to the
season will stand them in good stead.
The newly promoted side had to wait
a week before making their Premier League
bow in the League Cup against Reading and
have since played two local derbies, both
against Keynsham Town.
"It has been a tough start but it's been
a good experience being put in at the deep
end," she told Women's Soccer Scene. "We know there are easier games to come so
hopefully we can get points from them.
"We can battle and maybe even challenge, but this year we've just got to
settle into (the league) and next year push on and go for the title."
Jemma smashed the South West Combination scoring record last season
with 52 goals, despite playing most of the time on the wing, and she is off and
running this time around having netted in both games against Keynsham. "I haven't
been scoring much in pre-season," she said, "but it's nice to get underway.
Confidence builds from that and the goals will keep coming hopefully."
Midfielder Rachel Edwards echoed Jemma's comments and believes that the
future is very bright for the Somerset club. "Reading was a difficult game," she
admitted. "I thought as a team we performed extremely well and got into our stride
but unfortunately they hit us with two early goals which knocked the wind out of our
sails a little bit. Hopefully when we get going, we can start quicker and stop those
goals going in.
"Experience is going to play a part in it as we are quite a young side. It's
going to take us a little time to settle down but we've got some really good players
in the squad who are gifted.
"We've got the talent to do it and I think we'll give teams a good run for their
money and we will stay up this year. It's not about the top four, it's about settling
ourselves down and going for it next year."

Reading FC Women 2 Portsmouth 1
Reading claimed their second group stage win in the Premier
League Cup at Tadley on Sunday and ensured a place in the
last sixteen of the competition.
However, their opponents, Portsmouth, made them
work very hard for a 2-1 win. Pompey played for forty
minutes with ten players and the last twenty minutes with
nine after Molly Clark and then Lauren Murphy had been sent
off but it took a 86th minute Michaela Howell shot and a
goalkeeping error to settle the tie.
Even with a two player disadvantage, the visitors
pressed forward and went very close to clinching the
equaliser their performance probably deserved in added time.
After a cagey opening period, it was Pompey who Kelly Chambers clears away from
Gemma Hillier

a fine save from Justine Lorton's free kick and Gemma Hillier
setting up a chance which was fired just over.
Kelly Chambers went close with a powerful header well saved by Lou Worsfold but it
was Pompey who took the lead on 23 minutes. After another fine Beazley save from a Hillier
shot, the ball was returned into the centre of the goal where Cassie Thorp tapped the ball home
with Reading appealing in vain for offside.
Pompey were comfortable even after Molly Clark's straight red dismissal for violent
conduct on 34 minutes. Hillier was denied doubling the lead by another good save. Reading's
Natasha Caswell went very close to equalising just before the break, having a goal ruled out for
offside and sweeping a shot inches wide.
Caswell was inches wide again after the break and Gemma Sims blasted over from
close in on 53 minutes as the National Division side dominated but it took until the halfway point
in the second half for an equaliser to come, a super 25-yard shot from Sims.
The second dismissal was a second yellow for Murphy, presumably for verbal reaction
towards a refereeing decision. Ironically, Portsmouth played brilliantly with nine, their
experienced midfield of Lorton, Thorp. Kirsty McGee and Shelly Cox playing keepball for a fair
proportion of the twenty minutes remaining and the back four defending calmly.
Just when it seemed that the visitors might escape with a point, disaster struck them
on 86 minutes. A fine run and cross from Nikki Watts was missed by Caswell but fell to Howell
whose fierce shot was straight at Worsfold. The Pompey keeper could not hold the ball and it
rolled between her legs and just over the line.
Back came Pompey, with a Cox shot just wide and a Lorton free kick scrambled off
the line. Worsfold went up for a corner and nearly made amends as she headed just wide but
Reading clung on for the win at the end of a dramatic and enthralling encounter.
Reading, many of whose players had been involved in a Futsal tournament in Sheffield
the previous day, will be delighted to grab the victory and they kept pressing even when being
frustrated by nine opponents. Pompey will surely feel robbed, but they played with great spirit
and skill and, with three points, still have a chance to qualify after Keynsham Town and Yeovil
drew their other group encounter, their final match being against Yeovil in early October.

Charlton Athletic have moved to the top of Southern Division One after they
won 3-1 against West Ham Utd. Megan Chandler, Jessica Creighton and Mary
Onianwa were all on target for the Addicks who lead on goal difference from Chelsea,
2-1 winners at Watford. Bristol Academy were moments away from victory against
Arsenal as they led through Annie Martin's first half goal but Rebecca Anderson netted
an injury time equaliser to salvage the Gunners a 1-1 draw. Cardiff City meanwhile
won for the first time, 3-1 away to Reading FC Women.
Gillingham's fine start to the season continued in Southern Division Two and
their 5-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion moves them three points clear at the
summit. Colchester Utd scored six without reply at Queen's Park Rangers to go
into second place ahead of Barnet who were 2-1 winners over Portsmouth. Millwall
Lionesses and Yeovil Town met for the second time in successive weeks and they
fought out another draw, this time goalless.

England 2 (Williams 43, Smith 45) Switzerland 0
att: 4,119; at the Greenhous Meadow
It's advantage England after the first leg of their FIFA Women's World Cup play-off
but the job is not yet done if they are to secure their place in Germany next year.
Two goals shortly before half time separated the teams on the day but
Switzerland offered plenty to show that they will pose a threat in the return leg on
Thursday, particularly brilliant striker Ramona Bachmann who posed a number of
problems for the England defence throughout the game.
The game will also be remembered for Kelly Smith breaking the England
goalscoring record with her 41st goal for her country, a clinical strike to double her
side's lead on the stroke of half time.
With Karen Carney missing through injury, Eniola Aluko returned to the side
and started on the right wing with Kelly Smith playing a lone role up front.
Although England enjoyed the better of the early possession, the first scare
came at their end on nine minutes as Lara Dickenmann found Bachmann who ran
at the England defence before planting her shot over the bar from the edge of the
area.
England responded well and could have twice have gone ahead within
moments of each other. Rachel Unitt exchanged passes with Jill Scott and the ball
ran loose for Rachel Yankey who crashed a piledriver against the bar with Marisa
Brunner just a spectator; Alex Scott returned the ball into the area for Aluko whose
looping shot struck the top of the bar.
The Swiss tackling was becoming fiercer and fiercer and a bodycheck on
Kelly Smith led to a free kick on the edge of the area, where Fara Williams' shot was
fisted away by a diving Brunner.
A clever ball from Aluko led to another opening but Alex Scott, at full
stretch, sliced her shot wide with Brunner advancing. Smith then found space on
the left where her cross was nodded down by Jill Scott for Katie Chapman who
volleyed narrowly over.
A Unitt pass was intercepted by Martina Moser and this led to danger for
England, the skilful Bachmann dribbled her way into the area and, although Sandy
Maendly was unmarked alongside her, she elected to shoot and her effort was
blocked by Faye White.
However two minutes later England broke the deadlock as their persistence
paid off. Firstly, Jill Scott broke into the area where her shot was blocked by
Brunner, who got up to parry the next effort from Smith but Williams was on hand
to plant home the loose ball with a left foot shot from 15 yards.
With Switzerland reeling, England struck again very quickly. Smith found
the breaking Williams who steered the ball back under pressure for Smith to
emphatically bury her shot into the corner of the net for the second goal, the record

breaking strike for the England star.
Clearly buoyed by their finish to the half, England made a fast start to the
second half with Smith breaking strongly down the left, Jill Scott picking up the loose
ball before drilling her shot just over the bar.
Rahel Graf headed wide from a corner at the other end but England were
unable to keep their momentum going with the Swiss being a little more
adventurous. One good run from Yankey down the left ended with a threatening
cross which Selina Zumbuhl did well to clear under pressure from Chapman, while
a dangerous low centre from Aluko somehow evaded everybody in front of goal.
It needed an alert save from Rachel Brown to preserve her side's lead, a
20-yard effort from Maendly was dipping sharply under the bar before the England
keeper palmed it over. Alex Scott made an excellent intervention to deny Ana Maria
Crnogorcevic as she burst into the area as Switzerland tried to grab themselves a
precious away goal.
Smith produced another piece of

into Thursday's second leg at Wohlen.
Kelly Smith spoke of her pride at becoming England’s all time leading goalscorer but
also admitted that the accolade had taken her by surprise.
“I’ve only just found out,” she quipped after the game. “To be up there with
Karen (Walker) is a great accomplishment for me. She was a great player and I
loved playing with her. To become the all time leading goalscorer is a real honour
for me, but I couldn’t have done it without my team mates.
“Obviously I am delighted but it’s about the team and the most important
thing was the win.
“We’ve got one foot in the World Cup and we want to put both feet in there.
It’s a dream to play in the best tournament in the world. Germany will put on an
outstanding World Cup and if anyone can host a tournament it is them. The crowds
will be big, it’s the biggest stage and hopefully we can get there.”

Switzerland 2 (Bachmann 41, Zumbuhl 63)
England 3 (Smith 31, Aluko 33, Williams pen 49)
England won 5-2 on aggregate
England booked their place in next summer's World Cup Finals in Germany as they
secured a 3-2 win on the night and 5-2 on aggregate.
The result was never in doubt following a two-goal strike just after the half
hour but the night was tainted as England goalkeeper Rachel Brown was
outrageously sent off after Swiss striker Ramona Bachmann conned the referee into
thinking she had been struck in the face.
Hope Powell elected to field an unchanged side from that which had taken
a 2-0 lead from the first leg although Eniola Aluko played a more central role up
front.
The first opportunity of the game came England's way in the fourth minute,
a free kick from Fara Williams being deflected into the path of Eniola Aluko whose
scuffed shot was saved low down by Marisa Brunner.
An even better chance came just three minutes later as Kelly Smith burst
into the area where she rounded the oncoming Brunner before being brought down
by Marina Keller. A penalty was awarded and Smith stepped up to take the kick
herself but dragged her left foot shot wide of the post.
Smith came close to atoning for this error with an audacious but typical
30-yard lob which beat a stranded Brunner but came back off the bar. Williams tried
her luck as the ball was returned to her but Brunner was able to save comfortably.
It needed a smart save from Rachel Brown at her near post to deny a snap
shot from Selina Zumbuhl and Lara Dickenmann went close from a 25-yard free kick
which was driven through the England wall but clipped the side netting.
However the vital goal came just after the half hour and England's
taliswoman made yet another crucial strike for her country. Yankey found Alex Scott
in space on the right, where the full back drove in a low cross which was missed at
the near post by Aluko but Smith was on hand to slot the loose ball home from point
blank range.
This left Switzerland needing four
goals and England - just like in the first
leg - capitalised quickly to double their
lead. Aluko exchanged passes with
Smith before crowning her 50th cap by
sliding a low shot past Brunner for the
second goal.
However things turned sour
before half time as a sloppy pass from
Williams was intercepted by Bachmann
who rounded Casey Stoney before

tangle ensued as Bachmann tried to retrieve the
ball and, despite making absolutely no contact
with the Swiss striker, a disgraceful piece of
play-acting from Bachmann completely conned
the referee and Brown was shown a red card.
Aluko was sacrificed so that Siobhan Chamberlain
could come on to replace Brown in goal.
Despite being a player down, England
continued to attack and Williams almost restored
the advantage. After her initial free kick was
charged down, Williams' shot from the rebound
struck the post with Brunner beaten.
Four minutes into the second half, the

game was put beyond further doubt with another
goal tinged with controversy. Smith broke into
the area from a Chapman pass and, although contact from Caroline Abbe appeared
minimal, a penalty was awarded. This time Williams took the kick and confidently
found the net via a post.
Crnogorcevic missed a good
chance when shooting wide after being
put through by Sandy Maendly but
England should really have extended their
lead minutes later when Jill Scott miscued
in front of goal after being found by Smith.
Switzerland reduced the arrears
just after the hour mark, after Faye White
had brought down Bachmann around 25
yards from goal. Zumbuhl duly curled a

It was a tremendous week for England, Scotland and Wales in the UEFA Under-19
Championships as all three countries successfully made it through to the Second
Qualifying Round to be held later in the season.
England qualified comfortably after finishing on top of their group without
conceding a goal in their three matches.
Mo Marley's side began their group with a match against hosts Moldova and
eased to a 4-0 victory. Captain Jordan Nobbs netted twice to put England two in front
just after the half hour, before Danielle Carter and Nikita Parris wrapped up the win with
goals after the break.
England then made certain of qualification in their second game, scoring nine
without reply against Armenia. This time it was Nikita Parris who spearheaded the win
with a hat-trick and also on the scoresheet were Jordan Nobbs, Rebecca Jane, Danielle
Carter, Maegan Doyle, Lauren Bruton and an own goal.
A victory was needed in the final game against Finland to make absolutely sure
of qualification and England duly ran out 2-0 winners. Alex Greenwood made sure they
went into the interval with a lead and Nobbs sewed up the win with her fourth goal in
the three matches, two minutes into the second half.
Wales meanwhile got off to an astonishing start with a record 21-0 victory
against Georgia. Emily Brown led the scoring with a five-goal haul, Hannah Keryakoplis
weighed in with four and Josie Green contributed a hat-trick. Nia Jones, Megan Wynne
and Jasmin Dutton all bagged doubles and there was one each from Sharla Passariello
and Zoe Atkins.
Qualification was achieved in the second game as Wales defeated hosts
Slovenia 4-2. Rachel Rowe marked her 18th birthday by giving them the lead with a long
range strike, before Hannah Keryakoplis and Nia Jones added further goals to put them
in control. After Slovenia had reduced the arrears, Sharla Passariello scored a fourth to
seal the points, despite the home side grabbing a late consolation.
However Wales were unable to finish as group winners after going down 5-1 to
a strong France side in the final game. Wales were never able to recover after conceding
three goals inside the opening half hour but managed to score a late goal through Lisa
Bird.
Scotland secured a point in their opening group match when drawing 3-3 with
Serbia but finished the match with nine players after Nicola Docherty and Lauren
McMurchie were both shown a red card. After falling behind early on, Lana Clelland
levelled the scores for Scotland but Serbia went back in front at half time. Lisa Evans and
Emma Mitchell then put the Scots ahead for the first time but Serbia hit back to earn a
share of the spoils, nine minutes from time.
Next up for Scotland were Slovakia and they put themselves in with a great
chance of going through, thanks to a 4-0 victory. The first half ended goalless but Eilish
McSorley broke the deadlock soon after the restart and the other goals came in the final
fifteen minutes, Louise Mason and Lisa Evans both finding the net before McSorley
scored her second.
This left Scotland needing a victory against hosts Sweden in their final match in
order to guarantee themselves a place in the next phase. Although they went into the
game as underdogs against one of the strongest countries in the competition, Scotland
pulled off one of the best wins in their history. Lana Clelland scored the only goal of the
game during the first half to give her side a 1-0 victory and see them through to the
Second Qualifying Round as group winners.

Liskeard Girls were proud to welcome Corinne Yorston to Cornwall as she became the second
England international star this year to come down and run a training session with the girls in
Liskeard.
Corinne, who last season played for Premier League champions Arsenal, relished the
chance to come down and see the girls first hand for herself after fellow England team mate Sue
Smith visited the club earlier this year.
Liskeard Girls have formed a great relationship with the FA in London and it is through
their support and backing that they have managed to secure some of the best players in the
country to make rare trips in to Cornwall just for them and to endorse what is going on at the club.
Corinne led a fun training season with the girls which got them working on their attacking
and defending skills. She then inspired the girls with some stories from her rise to the England
national team and then posed for photos and signed autographs for all the players in the team.
The evening also saw the launch of the kits for the girls this season. "Without our
sponsors we wouldn't be able to do what we do," said coach Adam Sibley. "We are so thankful to
S.A.S Trewartha's Plumbing and Heating for sponsoring the kit for our Under-12s and to KRP
Electrical for sponsoring our Under-14 and Under-15 teams. We are so proud to have two great
local firms involved with the girls football
setup.
"It's an exciting time for
Liskeard Girls with more big plans for the
future as we get ready to embark on
another amazing season."

Gillingham have captured the signature of Sarah Jones from
National Division side Millwall Lionesses.
The central defender has signed for the Gills and will go
straight into the squad to face Colchester on Sunday. The 19-yearold has played for Millwall for the last five years but felt that the time
was right to move on and seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Speaking about her move to Gillingham, she said: "To be
honest I'm really excited for a change. Gills instantly appealed to me
because having spoke to some of the girls before the move, they
absolutely love it and I was also very impressed with the team's
performance in both the games versus Millwall this season.
"The club's progression in such a short space of time has
been incredible. Everyone at the club should be proud of their efforts and I hope to be a
part of taking it forward even more so."
Manager Ian Varley was delighted to get a centre half with the experience and
quality that Sarah possesses. He said: "It is a great signing and again it is a statement of
our intent as to where we are aiming to be as a club.
"Sarah is a Premiership defender and I am delighted she has signed for us. She
has come here to play football and she will be in the squad to face Colchester on Sunday."
Sarah counts Millwall and Crystal Palace as her former clubs and despite her
young age she has a wealth of experience that will help the Gills in the Southern Division
this season and beyond.
Brentwood Town manager Ian Bent is calling on residents of the area to come and cheer
on their local female football team as his club prepare to throw open the doors to their
new home at the Society of Old Brentwoods for the first time on Sunday 19th September.
The Blues host Kettering Town in the Premier Division of the Eastern Region
League at the weekend and Bent would like to welcome football fans in the town to the
Ashwells Road venue. "I would like to personally invite everyone from the local area to
come down and support your local ladies team this Sunday afternoon and help us make
the place feel like home as well as experiencing a great family afternoon out in the
process," he said.
After claiming victory in their last four successive fixtures, Brentwood top the
Premier Division table going into the match against the Poppies, who were promoted as
Champions from Division One North in 2009-10.
"Everyone is looking forward to playing our first game in the wonderful surroundings and facilities at the Society of Old Brentwoods," added Bent. "Ashwells Road looks
like a great place to play football and we go there in great confidence after a positive start
to the season."
As well as two excellently maintained playing surfaces, the Society also boasts a
magnificent Clubhouse, which the club will be utilising on Friday 8th October when they
stage a Quiz Night to help raise funds for a new home kit.
"I would like to thank everyone at the Society of Old Brentwoods for their support
and assistance with the move and everyone at BTLFC hopes this is the start of a great
friendship between us," Bent continued.

Whitley boss steps down
Colin Phillips has stepped down as manager of Whitley Bay and is leaving the club. He
formed the club in 2005 and has guided them to League titles, League Cup and County Cup
wins.
Whitley Bay chairman Paul McIlduff praised Phillips' achievements, saying: "Colin
started the women's section from nothing and in the last five years has put seven trophies
in our cabinet and has an amazing win percentage of over 80%.
"Off the pitch he has put in place the structure of a Registered Charity and the
section is financially sound, with sponsorship in place, and is well equipped. He will be a
tough act to follow."
Colin Phillips said: "I have had a fantastic five years forming and developing the
Club and leave a great set up and a squad I think is well capable of challenging for promotion
again this season and I wish them the best of luck."
He has no plans to be involved with another club but added: "I will take a short
break, but knowing me, it won't be too long before I will want to be involved in football again
in some capacity."
On Sunday, Phillips' last duties with the Club saw Whitley go top of the North East
League in a 5-1 win against Guiseley with two goals from Laura Darmody and one each from
Janine Fagan, Steph O'Brien and Rachel Kay. First team coach Andy Windscheffel will now
be in charge of team affairs until further notice.
Female refereeing in London
Females in London are getting the opportunity to become qualified referees thanks to a
female only referee course that has been organised in the capital.
London FA are running a course at London Marathon Playing Fields, Shooters Hill
Road, Greenwich, SE18 4LT which starts on Saturday 2nd October 2010 and continues on
9th and 16th October.
Emma Barnes, Women & Girls Development Officer for South London said: "It is
great to be able to offer females an alternative way to get involved in football, and it’s also
a good way for coaches and players to expand their knowledge."
This course links in well with the Female Officials Programme which was launched
in November 2008 in conjunction with Arsenal Centre of Excellence. Any referees that show
potential from the course will be put forward to take part in this programme which provides
mentoring from experienced referees and the opportunity to officiate within the Arsenal
Centre of Excellence programme. As part of this programme there are quarterly Female
Referee Groups where female referees at any level can attend to get advice and take part
in workshops and listen to different speakers.
Emma adds, "It is really key that we can now offer female referees support from
the word go, and that there are opportunities for them to develop with their refereeing at
all levels."
Anyone interested in attending the course or finding out more about the Female
Officials Programme should contact Emma at [email protected] or (07921)

Girls enjoy Uttlesford Schools Festival
Uttlesford welcomed its first Essex County Football Association event of the year recently
when a Schools Festival involving girls in School Years Three to Six at Stansted Mountfitchet

paints and even an American style cheer off finishing the day! Congratulations went to
Felsted School’s Year Three and Four teams who stole the vote with a very imaginative cheer!
The festival consisted of fun warm-ups, skills sessions from Essex County FA
coaches and Matthew Joseph of The FA Tesco Skills Team, culminating in fun matches. The
Year Threes and Fours played 4v4 games and the Year Fives and Sixes enjoyed 7v7 action.
The emphasis within the matches was Fair Play Points and no scores were recorded, so the
girls were able to develop by playing in a fun and relaxed environment.
Displays of elements of fair play in the games, such as shaking hands or helping
players up if they fell down, were awarded points and in each fixture teams could collect up
to five ‘Fair Play Cards’. These were in plentiful supply as the girls displayed supreme
conduct throughout the afternoon but special congratulations went to Rodings Primary’s
Year Threes and Fours and Felsted’s Fives and Sixes who won their age groups.
Emma Manning, Female Football Development Officer for Outer Essex, said: “We
owe a massive thank you to all the schools that entered, including Felsted, Great Dunmow
and Rodings Primary. We hope to run more of these types of festival looking ahead from
this month onwards and only hope the festivals continue to grow, with more schools taking
up the opportunity to give girls the wonderful opportunity to play football!”
