There will again be the convenience of a concession stand for anyone attending the events of the day, you can purchase sandwiches, chips, soft drinks, etc. between the morning meetings and the SSA. This expedites movement between events without having to get delayed by waiting in the regular hotel restaurant or going out of the building to get a quick snack. It will be set up in the lobby outside the main entrance to the banquet room from 11:00 a. m. until 1:30 p.m. There will also be a cash bar set up in the same area beginning at 11:00 a. m. until 4:00 p.m., then again from 5:00 until the end of the day’s events. The Ohio Paint Horse Amateur Club will sponsor a Silent Auction again this year. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Silent Auction can contact any OPHAC officer. Last year many unique items were offered for your bid and this year’s offerings should be no exception. The Auction will be set up out side the main ballroom entry. Be sure to make your selections early. The final bids will be announced during the awards portion of the evening. The OPHC has again been awarded the status of Gold Star Paint Horse Club by the APHA. This award recognizes regional clubs for their outstanding performance as Paint Horse promoters and their community contributions. As part of this award OPHC will give as door prizes several Gist and APHA General Store gift certificates at the banquet. Anyone attending will have a chance at one of these very nice door prizes. We will also have membership forms available for those who need to pay their memberships before the auction. Remember you must be an Ohio Paint Horse Club member to purchase a breeding to any of the offered stallions. Hope to see all of you on January 19, 2008. Coming up next month * Awards banquet results * Amateur show judges update * Amateur meeting discussions * Election of Amateur officers Dear Show Managers & Secretaries: In an effort to continue to improve our shows, APHA has several new and exciting changes for 2008. However, with these new changes come new policies and procedures for show management. The new rule change that will likely affect you the most is APHA membership is now required for all exhibitors. We would appreciate you taking a moment to review the below information regarding requirements for membership to show. Amateur and Novice Amateur Division: All amateur exhibitors must be current APHA members and have a current amateur/novice amateur status card in order to be eligible to show. Beginning in 2008, both of these cards have been combined into one. As in the past, amateurs and novice amateurs must present to you a current amateur status card. The amateur status card expires every year on December 31 and a new card must be obtained to begin showing on January 1. Show secretaries should check that the card is current and that novice amateurs are eligible in the categories in which they have entered classes (categories and the classes included are listed on the back of the card). Additionally, the amateur’s age group will be indicated – Classic (19-44 years old) or Masters (45 years or older). The amateur must enter the correct age division for classes split by exhibitor’s age. APHA membership will now also be indicated on the amateur card. The card will have two expiration dates on it – one for amateur status and one for APHA membership. Both dates must be checked and must be current for the amateur to show. Check card for: 1. Amateur or Novice Amateur Status 2. Amateur Status expiration date 3. Membership expiration date 4. Age Division – Classic (19-44) or Masters (45+) 5. Novice Amateur Category eligibility (15 categories) If the amateur does not have an amateur card, a Temporary Amateur Application must be completed prior to showing. To prevent show processing delays, be sure that the amateur has completed the form in full; novice amateurs must complete all sections in their entirety including their prior show experience. Correct fees must accompany the form. The perforated section at the bottom is for the show secretary to complete and give to the exhibitor at the show. The exhibitor will then have proof of amateur status at their next show until their permanent card arrives. It is important that you complete the date issued on this card for the next show secretary to verify. If the exhibitor uses one of these cards at your show, you must check that the card has not expired. If an individual presents an amateur card and their amateur status is current, but their membership is not, they must complete the APHA Temporary Membership form. Again, the temporary card must be given to the exhibitor to use until their permanent card arrives. If either the amateur status or the membership is not current, a temporary card application must be completed. Anytime a membership is processed in the APHA office, a new Amateur card will be printed which will contain all the current membership and Amateur status on one card. Youth and Novice Youth Division: All youth exhibitors must be current AjPHA members and, if eligible, have a current novice youth status card in order to show. Beginning in 2008, both of these cards have been combined into one card. As in the past, novice youth must present to you a current novice youth status card. The novice youth status expires every year on December 31 and a new card must be obtained to begin showing on January 1. Show secretaries should check that the youth card is current and that novice youth are eligible in the categories in which they have entered classes (categories and the classes included are listed on the back of the card). Additionally, the youth’s birthdate will be indicated. The youth must enter the correct age division for classes split by exhibitor’s age. Similar to the amateur card, AjPHA membership will be indicated on the youth card. If the exhibitor is a novice, the card will have two expiration dates – one for novice youth status and one for AjPHA membership. Both dates must be verified and must be current for the youth to show. If the exhibitor is not novice, the AjPHA membership must be checked. Novice Youth Exp.: Dec 31, 2008 Member Exp.: Apr. 31, 2008 Check card for: 1. AjPHA Membership expiration date 2. Novice Youth status 3. Novice Youth status expiration date 4. Novice Youth Category eligibility (15 categories) Doe, John Date of Birth Apr. 27, 1996 Catagories: ID Number 0123456 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 * 9 10 11 12 * 14 15 If the youth does not have a youth card, a Temporary Youth Application must be completed. To prevent show processing delays, be sure that the youth has completed the form in full; novice youth must complete all sections in their entirety including their prior show experience. Correct fees must accompany the form. The perforated section at the bottom is for the show secretary to complete and give to the exhibitor at the show. The exhibitor will then have proof of their membership and/or novice youth status at their next show until their permanent card arrives. It is important that you complete the date issued on this card for the next show secretary to verify. If the exhibitor uses one of these cards at your show, you must check that the card has not expired. If either the AjPHA membership or the novice youth status is not current, a Temporary Youth Application must be completed. If they present a youth card and their novice status is current but their membership is not, or vice versa, they must complete the form. Open Division: All open exhibitors must be current APHA members in order to be eligible to show. Proof of individual membership or an APHA exhibitor card is required at time of showing. There are five cards that are acceptable to meet this requirement: 1. Current APHA membership card with a single individual’s name 2. APHA exhibitor card 3. Temporary membership card that has not expired 4. APHA amateur card (or temporary amateur card) with current membership indicated 5. AjPHA youth card (or temporary youth card) with current membership indicated For all cards, show secretaries should check that the membership on the card is current. The card must also list a single individual’s name. If the membership is a joint or farm/ranch membership, an APHA Exhibitor Card is required so that each individual exhibitor is assigned their own identification number and can be recorded properly in the show results. If the exhibitor does not possess a card with a current membership, he or she must complete a Temporary Membership Application. Correct fees must accompany the form. The perforated section at the bottom is for the show secretary to complete and give to the exhibitor at the show. This temporary card will serve as proof of their membership until their permanent card arrives. It is important that you complete the date issued on this card for the next show secretary to verify. If you are presented with a temporary card at your show, be sure to check that it has not expired. APHA Exhibitor Cards: Exhibitors possessing a membership in a joint or farm/ranch name must apply for an exhibitor card as proof that they are eligible under that membership, and to provide show management with the correct individual APHA identification number to record. Name: Doe, John Check card for: 1. Name 2. Identification number (to be used in recording results for that exhibitor) 3. APHA membership expiration date ID Number: 0123456 Expires: Dec. 31, 2008 If the exhibitor presents you with a current membership card, but it is in a joint or farm/ranch name, he or she must complete an Exhibitor Declaration Form. This form requires that all eligible exhibitors under that membership be listed (for a farm/ranch/business-must be only principal owners). Once processed, all of those exhibitors will receive a permanent exhibitor card to use as proof of membership in the future. These cards will contain unique APHA ID numbers for each individual in order to ensure accurate show records and to be able to better track show participation. Please complete the temporary cards at the bottom of the form for those exhibitors to use until their permanent cards arrive. No fee is required for an exhibitor card if the APHA membership is current. Or does your unique use of color and technique capture the emotion that Paint Horse enthusiasts feel for their breed? Then you may be a perfect fit for the American Paint Horse Association’s next official World Championship Paint Horse Show artist. The premier horse show is set for June 22– July 5, 2008 in Fort Worth, Texas. The winning artist’s original work will be reproduced as a commemorative fine art print, on the cover of the World Show Program and on official World Show merchandise. The APHA World Show is the largest Paint Horse show on earth, with more than 2,000 horses from across the globe being exhibited. The show offers the winning artist two full weeks of excellent exposure to the global Paint Horse community and the North Texas-area public. “At APHA, we sincerely believe that the American Paint Horse is one of the most talented, athletic, intelligent and beautiful horses in the world,” said APHA Director of Public Relations and Marketing Jerry Circelli. “We are looking for a work of art that truly captures the essence of the American Paint Horse—from its vibrant coat colors and patterns to its strong conformation to its wiling disposition. We need an artistic piece that truly displays the qualities that endear this horse to more than 100,000 people around the world.” To enter artwork or a portfolio into the contest to become APHA’s newest official World Show artist, provide the artist’s name and contact information, including email, the art media used and the dimensions of the final artwork. The deadline for all submissions is March 3, 2008. Questions and digital submissions smaller than 3MB may be e-mailed to Chelsea Cline at [email protected]. Larger or non-digital submissions may be mailed to: American Paint Horse Association Attn: Chelsea Cline P.O. Box 961023 Fort Worth, Texas 76161 APHA will notify the winning artist and other entrants on March 17, and all mailed submissions will be returned. The final World Show artwork is due April 15. Sensational stallion is the first American Paint Horse inducted into the NSBA Hall of Fame FORT WORTH, TEXAS—American Paint Horse Zippos Sensation was recently added to the National Snaffle Bit Association’s (NSBA) prestigious Hall of Fame—the first Paint Horse to be awarded this honor. The NSBA, which promotes the pleasure horse, includes elite equines that have had significant impact on the industry through their breeding or show qualifications. “We were excited when we learned about “Zippo” being inducted into the Hall of Fame,” said Andrea Simons of Simons Show Horses, LLC in Aubrey, Texas, who co-owns the operation with daughters Sara and Jana. “It is an honor for not only us, but also for the Paint Horse industry. Of course, as his owner, I think he is extra-special—he and his colts have opened the door to the pleasure horse industry. Horses like Zippos Sensation have made it possible for all Paints to be on an equal playing field with Quarter Horses in the pleasure horse arena.” Sired by Zippo Pine Bar (AQHA) and out of Satin N Lace, the 14-year-old sorrel overo stallion is the American Paint Horse Association’s (APHA) leading sire of performance winners and point-earning performance horses. The stallion began passing on his winning traits early, with his first get born when he was a 3-year old. From that first crop came APHA World Champion Brightly Zippo—a sorrel overo gelding out of Morning Whispers that excelled in Western pleasure. Brightly Zippo is still showing today, recently winning a Reserve World Championship in 2007 with Youth exhibitor Laurel Hanlon of Elizabeth, Colo., aboard. To date, Zippo’s foals have earned 75 world and reserve championship titles, as well as having placed on APHA’s Honor Roll. In addition, they have made him a six-time leading sire of money-earning foals through the association’s Breeders Trust program. In 2006, 85 of his offspring earned a total of $88,941.94 in added money through the incentive. “We are very proud of what Zippo has accomplished for us this far, and hope to continue to produce even better top-quality foals in the future,” said Simons.
