• Increased water safety of urban areas upstream of
the polder
• In times of extreme high water a decrease of the
water levels in the Bergsche Maas of 27 cm.

Project outline
Process: farmers compensation
• Government has bought all of the farms from the
farmers at market price + compensation
for any loss
• Farmers will be compensated by the government
every time flooding occurs
• All of the farmers invest in larger, more
sophisticated farms
• Enforced purchase by court ruling was possible, but
will hopefully be unnecessary
• Parcels from leaving farmers will be offered to the
ones who stay to buy or lease.
Planning
• 2011: 3 mounts ready for start construction farms
• 2012: all of the mounts ready for construction
farm, 5 farmers have moved into their new houses
• 2013: start adapting the polder water system,
start construction ecological zones
• 2014: all of the farmers have moved to their
mount or moved out of the polder. Finishing the
new primary dike and start lowering the old dike.
