JOB DESCRIPTION
ROLE STATEMENT
The administrative assistant is responsible for the provision of administrative and secretarial assistance to
the Head of the Academic Program and helps in ensuring the smooth running of the daily departmental
work. Duties involve a range of administrative, academic and general office functions.
SUBJECT SPECIFIC TECHNICAL SKILLS
 Strong Administrative and Office work.
 Mastering Word Processing and Microsoft Word;
 Power point Presentations and use of spreadsheets.
 Familiarity with Oracle is desirable and;
 Internet research.
 Plus excellent typing speed in both English and Arabic.

PRINCIPAL TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
















Researches and prepares draft documents, reports, PowerPoint, and projects as required
Maintains orderly files and accurate records, retrieves information as required for meetings
and projects
Organizes, prepares and distributes agendas for meetings and record, transcribes, revises
and circulate the minutes of the meetings
Works well as part of a team in a demanding and busy department and provide support to
the academic team
Take minutes for academic meetings as assigned by the Head of the Program
Responsible for preparing and distributing end of term academic standing letters
Prioritizes well to demonstrate progress on several projects simultaneously
Possesses excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills
Coordinate committee meeting schedules and room assignments
Pays strict attention to detail and accuracy

ROLE STATEMENT
Reporting to the Head, the lab technician instructor added to his reflective scientific knowledge and
experience. This individual presence is to assure addressing areas of student attendance, satisfaction,
retention, discipline and outcome evaluations.
SUBJECT SPECIFIC TECHNICAL SKILLS

 Critical Thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative
solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
 Science — using scientific rules and methods to solve problems and familiarity with current nursing
technology
 Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to
evaluate quality or performance.
 Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, make
improvements or take corrective action.
 Ability to use and maintain a wide variety of laboratory test instruments.
 Capability to undertake corrective actions as it happen and plan for alternative/corrective

PRINCIPAL TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
 Manages day-to-day operations of assigned teaching laboratories, including equipment preparation
and maintenance, safety standards/training compliance.
 To provide and sustain an effective learning environment for every student via well prepared
laboratory classes, relevant assignments, clear documentation regarding experiments, and support
of academic initiatives.
 Preparation of chemicals ensuring laboratory policies and procedures are adhered to;
 Safe disposal of hazardous chemicals and biological waste;
 Movement of equipment and materials between laboratories;
 Decontamination and cleaning of laboratories.
 Prepares and oversees equipment scheduled for use during laboratory teaching sessions.
 Demonstrates care and use of equipment, according to health and safety standards and practices, to
teaching staff and students.
 Ensure that all equipment and operations are audited to ensure highest levels of adherence to
health and safety protocols.





Trains teaching staff and students in application and use of new equipment.
Coordinates with Program Head to determine equipment/consumables purchase priorities
based on budget allowances, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory
activities.
Implement any changes as directed to the lab facilities necessary to improve science lab
experiment.
Prepare and ensure appropriate signage of equipment/chemicals.
Maintain and update the list of consumable, spare parts, supplies to ensure smooth running
through out the semester
Develop and update an equipment log for usage of each piece of equipment including history
of malfunctions and usage
Ensure appropriate risk assessments are in place relevant to, equipment, consumables and
experiments
Track all equipment between labs and program areas as approved by the Program Head.
Establish and maintain an inventory of all major equipment and lab furniture in the
department.








