MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD
As a teacher, it is always helpful to be able to call upon examples of an action or event
that has appeared impossible, but has subsequently come true. This is particularly so
when this reversal has occurred due to the application of hard work or the ability to
raise standards beyond that which were expected.
You will have to forgive me. As a Bournemouth fan of many years standing, their
victory on Monday and promotion to the Premier League feels of that order. Eddie
Howe and his mighty team have climbed through the leagues, played good football
and now, for the first time in their history, get to play with the big clubs.
Does this example make a difference to students? I’m not expecting them – yet – to
be converted the joys of following the Red Cherries. However, it does confirm one of
the fundamental tenets that we all need reminding of from time to time. Education
is the perennial quest to find the best way of learning, to search for new coaching
techniques that can make a difference, to evaluate the individual needs of the
students and to tailor our programmes accordingly. Each step we take along this
path is one that assists students every day in achieving what has previously appeared
impossible.

Young Photographers’ Competition
School Games, Manchester
(3rd – 7th September)
Are there any enthusiastic photographers in
Teign School that have an interest in capturing
sport?
As a school we have the chance to submit
three images that depict the values of
teamwork, respect, honesty, determination,
passion, self-belief. The images will be judged
on quality, creativity and originality as well as
technical and editing proficiency. Please note
the images may be used by the Youth Sport
Trust and/or the Sainsbury’s School Games to
highlight the competition and excellence of
young people.
We are looking for four talented individuals
who would like to access this opportunity.
The winning school will be invited to bring the
four enthusiastic and talented photographers
to the School Games in Manchester. Here they
will receive mentoring and in the field, training
from a professional sports photographer. As
well as access and press accreditation to the
event, the Young Photographers will be set
challenges and commissioned briefs. They
will be involved in learning about a range of
techniques and styles used in photography
over their three night/four days at the event.
As well as taking the shots they will be required
to edit and improve their images for use by
different media outlets (including place holders
at events, live streaming and highlights shows)
. This is an amazing opportunity for four young
people from the winning school.
Year 11 Half Term History Revision

A big thank you to Jeff Wright in Year 8 who, following on from
his successful cupcake sale on Red Nose Day, has continued
to sell cupcakes to raise funds for the School Farm (Abbrook
Farm). Keep up the good work Jeff!

Chudleigh Athletic FCs U12s, all of whom are Year 7 Teign School students came
out victorious as they took on Ashburton Streamers in the final of the Pioneer
League Plate Trophy on Sunday 26th April at Stoke Gabriel.
It was a nervy start for Chudleigh, soon falling behind to a goal which caught
keeper Fin Davis off his line. Chudleigh started to gain composure, but were caught
out again after 15 minutes when Ashburton hit them on the break to make it 2 - 0.
Chudleigh rallied well with Brown playing in Hitchings, who beat two defenders to
rifle a goal from the edge of the area into the bottom corner to make it 2 - 1. Almost
immediately from the restart, Brown showed outstanding pace to beat his man and
go clear through, however, he failed to get any power on his shot. 2 - 1 to Ashburton
at half time.
Chudleigh continued to battle well after the restart. Resolute defending from the
back 3 of Shaw, Douglass and Johnson kept Ashburton at bay, and several superb
stops from Davis in goal kept the score at 2 - 1. Ashburton constantly struggled to
cope with the skill and trickery of Hitchings, the pace and strength of Brown, and
the determination of Dimond, Dobbs and Sercombe as they pressed forward.
Chudleigh’s high tempo approach won them a free kick 20 yards out with skipper
Sercombe stepping up and smashing it Ronaldo like into the top corner to level
matters. After a sterling performance in the centre of midfield, Dimond was replaced
by Scott, and a late injury to star defender Douglass saw the introduction of McCarthy.
All sessions run from 10am - 1pm
Tuesday: Public Health & factors of change (J3)
Wedneday: Cause and cure of disease (J5)
Friday : Care of sick e.g. and overview of the
exam paper (J7)
With eight minutes remaining, and the game flowing from end to end, McCarthy
chased down a loose ball deep into Ashburton territory and delivered a perfect cross
to Scott, who calmly collected the ball and fired it into the net to give Chudleigh
a deserved lead. Ashburton threw everything forward, but there was no give in the
Chudleigh defence. In the dying seconds, Chudleigh counter attacked following
a corner, McCarthy was taken out by the Ashburton keeper but still managed to
deliver the ball to Brown whose deflected shot made it 4 - 2 to Chudleigh amid
euphoric scenes.

BVC Trip to Parliament
On Monday the 27th May a group of 47
students travelled to London to visit the Houses
of Parliament. It was a brilliant day with picnic
lunch by the river followed by a guided tour of
the Houses of Parliament. As all Parliamentary
candidates are currently out campaigning
we had the special opportuinity to actually
go inside the House of Commons and the
House of Lords. The students also participated
in a workshop on ‘Making Laws’ and really
impressed the staff with their knowledge and
enthusiasm. A wonderful day for all involved!
