June 19 commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas in June 1865, and the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate south. Some traditional celebratory songs include “Sing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Celebrations also include parades and historical reenactments, skits, and dancing performances. The Roseland Library is pleased to announce the start of a new CHESS CLUB for ages 9+ led by John Hagerty, a USCF Certified Chess Coach and USCF Certified Local Tournament Director. COMING SOON — The Friends of the Roseland Library will be hosting Romeo & Juliet on Saturday, August 1, at 2:30 pm. This performance will feature the New Jersey Shakespeare Theater traveling troupe.
