PARTNERING FOR SUCCESS
M.E.T.S Charter School Home of the Mustangs
Principal’s Message:
Dear M.E.T.S. Students, Staff, and
Families:
Happy Saturday, Mustangs! I
trust you're well. We also appreciate
every-one who likes us on Facebook
and is following us on Twitter. We
have had another excellent week of
student learn-ing at M.E.T.S. Please
see attached photos.
Thanksgiving (the act of giving
thanks; expressing gratitude; a public
acknowledgment or celebration of
goodness). Since next week is
a short week, this update will
be the last until we return from
Thanksgiving break. We have
a half-day (1/2 day) on
Wednesday, November 25,
2015.
Reflecting upon the tragic
events that have recently occurred in the
world coupled with the unknowns of
the future, we are extremely fortunate to
be part of a special community. Sure,
we all have our stressful moments, but
our worries pale in comparison to the
millions who face crippling uncertainty.
So, as we begin the Thanksgiving period, take a few moments to think, smile,
hug, sing, listen, see, move, give praise
and be thankful for the gift of life.
Yesterday November 19, 2015 was
the official end of the 1st marking period and grades have been posted on
RealTime. On Tuesday, November 24,
2015 we will have Report Card night
from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. We look
forward to parents and teachers
conferencing about plans for
student success this year. I also want to
thank the parents that came on Wednesday, November 19, 2015 to the Principal Chat. We had great discussions and
questions. We hope to see more parents
attend our events to support our efforts

academic days, long school year, rigorous curriculum, and student-centered
classrooms create a culture of high expectations for our students. I am proud
that most of our students work hard to
reach and sometimes surpass these expectations. Of course, I am proud of the
work of our faculty and staff as well.
These extraordinary men and women
love our students and work tirelessly to
motivate, encourage and push them so
that they will be college ready when
they
graduate
M.E.T.S.

students
and
staff participated in our monthly college
day activities. We had a great visit from
members of the NJCU Athletics Dept.
Ten student athletes from different
teams (Soccer, Volleyball, Softball,
Basketball) participated in various
physical fitness activities with our students in their PE classes. Several student athletes were fortunate enough to
participate in a College Athletics Panel
discussion led by NJCU Athletic Director Alice DeFazio, Community Outreach Director Danielle Beam, and
Head Women's Softball Coach Veronica Grant. Go team!

Narratives: The Worst
Weather I Have Ever
Experienced
Mr. Taglieri was introducing his students to narrative writing by having
them identify certain pieces of an exemplar model. After reading through
the model, students were to pick out
the topic sentence, detail sentences,
vivid adjectives, and concluding sentences in preparation to compose their
own. Afterwards, they read and analyzed the paragraph, students then
brainstormed for their own narrative:
The Worst Weather I Have Ever Experienced. They will be working on this
paragraph while going through the full
writing process over the next several
days.
