Commissions Act 1965 to keep the law under review and to
recommend reform where it is needed. Its project team is
currently reviewing the existing framework of taxi and private
hire regulation, which has been criticised for a very long time
for being complex and outdated, with a view to producing
fresh legislation. Following a 12-week public consultation
starting in May 2012 which will publish proposals for reform
and invite responses to those proposals, the Law
Commission plans to publish a final report with
recommendations and a draft bill some time during 2013.
