Dear Tennis Fans,
By Sharman
Bennett
I want to give a big thanks
to all of our wonderful Club
Championships participants!!
From our juniors to our adults,
it was so amazing to see how
much everyone has improved
throughout the year. The final
results will be in the next
newsletter as not all of the
matches were completed before the printer’s
deadline.
The competition was excellent and even more
impressive was the outstanding display of
sportsmanship and character. A reminder that
all summer participants in ladies leagues, junior
tennis, and tournament winners are invited to
celebrate your accomplishments at the TENNIS
BANQUET on Sunday, October 4th with cocktails at 5:30 and a delicious buffet at 6:00p.m.
Please RSVP to the tennis shop 886-0512 or Aja
886-0408 if you have not already done so.
Ladies clinic will continue on Wednesdays from
1-2:30, working on stroke technique, strategy,
and footwork. Advanced junior groups will be
Wednesday and Friday from 3:30-5. Red Team
group will continue on Tuesday and Thursday
4-5 with Orange Team following from 5-6. Our

warm-up for Round Robin at 11. Fall brings
some of the most beautiful tennis weather
so come out and enjoy our beautiful courts

From the Manager By Mark Stahlman
As many of you know by now, Chef Andy Hampshire has purchased a local establishment and tenured his resignation as the
Executive Chef of Highland Springs Country Club. I would like to
thank him for three years of service and hard work. I have especially appreciated the six week notice for the transition period.
His last day will be September 29, 2015.
I am pleased to announce we have hired Brad Lyons as the new
Executive Chef. Chef Lyons will start on September 22, 2015.
Currently, Brad is the Executive Chef over the Aviary Restaurants and affiliated
properties. Prior to that, Brad was the Executive Chef at the Tower Club and University Plaza Hotel with John Q’s Restaurant for 25 plus years.
We look forward to Chef Lyons joining our team and providing the level of service
our members and guests have come to expect.
We are in the middle of putting the budget together for the year 2016. As this process begins, we will start putting together improvements and long range plans for
the club. You can expect continued improvements for your club in all areas.
One area that we need help with is the tree fund. Over the past several years we
have had and epidemic losing pine and locust trees, we are in the process of a
replacement plan and the donations from the tree fund will help with this project.
See the donation form in this newsletter to help and participate.
Thank you for your continued support of the club.
Turf Talk By Derek Wilkerson
Fall is a time of year for recovery. Not just for the golf course,
but also for our team here in the Agronomic Facility at Highland Springs Country Club. Summer has come and gone with
quite a bit of fanfare this year. Obviously the topic of conversation has been the amount of rain throughout the region.
Regardless of how much rain we have or don't have, the golf
course must be taken care of each and every day. This type of
conditioning puts a lot of stress on the turf and our team and
we all look forward to fall as cooler temperatures and shorter
days let us know we have made it.
Each fall we begin preparing the course for next year. There are lots of little
things we do to make our daily routines a little easier that we have learned from
this season. There are also lots of things we do to the golf course to make its life
a little easier next year. One of the biggest things we do is to inter-seed the thin
areas in the rough and around the greenbanks. Even though the season is just
about over for this year, we never stop improving
the golf course.
In closing I would like to invite everyone to follow
our agronomic processes on social media. One of
my goals is to establish a social media outlet for
the members to follow what we do on the course
throughout the season. I will be tweeting on a
regular basis. Please follow us: @HSCCAgronomy
on Twitter. It is a closed group, so you will need to
request permission to follow.
Social Spot By Sarah Griffin
I can’t believe how fast September has come & gone! We had great weather this month and were very thankful for it because we had some fun outdoor events planned. Our Sunset Dinner on the 18th Tee was wonderful! Also, our Party on the Hill had a pretty decent turnout considering all of the other events going on that
weekend. The Ricky G Band really rocked it! Our session of Sunrise Yoga also was amazing! We will continue
this program in the Spring for those yoga lovers!
Moving forward into October, we have some really fun events coming up. Starting off the month on October
2nd, we have an Oktoberfest beer tasting in Lounge Nineteen. We are calling in Suds & Spuds, because who
doesn’t love a loaded baked potato bar? Next up, October 10th is our Member Appreciation Party! This is a party you don’t want to
miss! We have a 70s theme going on, so bust out those bell bottoms and bright colors. We will be awarding best dressed of the evening, so dress to impress! On October 24th we have two events happening. That Saturday morning is the kid’s cookies and costumes
party. It’s a costume contest and the kiddos will get a cookie to decorate, too! That evening is something for the adults. We have a fall
wine tasting. We will be pairing fine fall wines with appropriate tapas foods in Lounge Nineteen.
Also this month, is of course, Halloween! We have fun for the whole family. Thursday, October 29th is our Kid’s Haunted Adventure!
We will have pumpkin decorating, s’mores, haunted hayrides, kid’s buffet, and Aunt Bea’s buffet for dinner. This should be a fun-filled
night so come on out! The following night, Friday, October 30th is our 2nd annual Costumes & Cocktails party! This was a blast last
year, so plan to put on your best costume and come and enjoy live music, and Halloween fun in Lounge Nineteen!
We introduced a new amenity at HSCC this past month, our Text Club! Have you signed up yet? If you missed it and still want to sign
up you can call me at 417-886-0408 or text EZCGP42611 to 313131 and it will automatically sign you up!

October is a beautiful month in Southwest Missouri, and that beauty should be experienced out on the fairways
and greens of Highland Springs Country Club. Fall is a time to play golf with your fellow members, and with your
guests. If you have friends who have not yet become a part of the Highland Springs family, this would be a great
time to bring them out for an autumn golf experience to be remembered.
Congratulations to Paul Tod, our 2015 Men’s Club Champion. Paul has had a great year on the golf course, consistently performing at a top level in tournament play. This year he bested Tim Holmes in the final match of the
Championship flight to claim the title of Men’s Club Champion once again.
We also have several new Club Champions in Flight Play. The President’s Flight came down to a match between Rick Beaman and Greg
McCord. When the dust settled, Rick Beaman was victorious. The A-Flight title went to Brent Creach when he bested Bob Palmer in
their finals match. This years B-Flight Champion is Tony Bartholonew, who defeated Dick Grant in the flight championship match. Troy
Underwood became the C-Flight Champion when he outlasted Brian Lindsey in their final match play round. Congratulations to all of
our winners.
In October we will be hosting two terrific Monday golf tournaments that have been set up by Highland Springs members. Each of
these events will benefit a worthy charity. On Monday, October 12th we will be hosting the C.A.R.E. (Castaway Animal Rescue),
fundraiser tournament. The Bates and the Milfeld families are putting on this event. Then, on Monday, October 19th we will host
a fundraiser tournament for the Imagination Library. Michelle Herschend is at the helm of this event. Please consider helping your
fellow members in some way with these charitable golf tournaments. Playing golf for a cause always makes you feel good.
Lastly, the annual “TOUGH AS NAILS” members golf event will be held on Saturday, October 3rd. This is your chance to see just how
tough you are, as we will show the teeth of our golf course with lightning fast greens and nearly unjust hole placements. There will be
two divisions, Championship and White. The first will play from the tips, while the White Division will play the white tees. Not feeling
tough? Don’t despair as we will have regular hole placements on the greens as well on that day, though you might find the green
speeds to be unsettling. Either way, come out and enjoy a beautiful October day on the best golf course around, Highland Springs.
