A bird’s nest sits perched tightly between
two branches of a wobbly little tree in my
back yard. Hummers fly everywhere acting
like they own the place and I guess they do
because my first job in the mor ning and last
in the evening is making sure their feeders
are cleaned and refilled with fresh sugar
watterr. More than once my husband, (joking I
hope), said he wishes he was a hummingbird
because I take such good care of them. But,
the hummers are anotherr storyy. This story is
abbout the birds in the nest.
Momma bird sat on tiny eggs for
o several
she was
daayys and then one daay I noticed
no
flying offf quite often and retur ning with foood
foor her little babies. She fed
ed them foor several
daayys, but I knew it wouldn’t last. I knew one
daay she would push them out of the nest …
because they were not made
ade for
o the nest.
As much care as she took to feed them, you
would think she’d want them under her wing
foor longerr, but no, thatt’s not whatt happpened.

Christian we don’t usually get big faaith
wings immediattely, and if we do, naayysaaying

Christians or non-Christians will be sure
to clip our wings to keep us grounded. Just
like the baby birds, we lear n to fly daay by daay.
Trial by trial. God is mindful of every praayer
we praay, but if we faail to grow spiritually does
he nudge us closer and closer to the edge until
we lear n to fly? He does, because we are not
made for
o the nest no more than those little
the nest.

We like the nest. The nest is our comffoort
zone. Momma and Poppa bird feeds the
babbies as long as they are in the nest, but
once they are pushed out they haave to lear n
some survival tactics. Lear ning to surviive is
dangerous. We don’t want to be pushed out of
the nest, but thatt’s our only choice if we are
ever to flyy. We will get a few nicks and scraapes
p
as our faith
a wings develop, but eventually we
will lear n to fly because we are not made foor
the nest.
The babby birds can’t fulfill their purpose
if they staay in the nest. They would never
flyy. They would never procreate. They would
never be part of the ecosystem which keeps
life on earth flowing smoothly. In the very
same waay, we can’t fulfill our purpose if we
staay in the comf

o t of our nest.

He wants you to get out of your

o table nests, no mattter what they are.
