May 11th Pastor’s Page: “The Ministry of Jesus” COMMUNION: Sunday, May 4th Brandywine & Ellicott City Locations Spirit of Faith ChristianCenter WELCOME VISITORS It is with great honor that we welcome all of you to fellowship and worship with us today. We know, without a doubt, that you won’t leave here the same way that you came, in Jesus’ name. You will be receiving a Visitor’s Card during this service. We ask that you complete this card and take it to our Bookstore after service. In exchange for the card, we will give you a gift from the ministry, thanking you for being in service with us today. We want you to have an encounter with God that will cause an unforgettable experience. Again, we welcome you with the joy and the love of Jesus Christ. CORPORATE PRAYER A Praying, Believing Nation Father, You are the great God and we give You great praise. We are thankful for Your goodness and mercy in our lives. As a nation, America has set aside May 1 as the National Day of Prayer. We know that if we humble ourselves, seek You, and obey, You will restore our families, churches, government, and businesses to righteousness. We decree that marriage will always be between one man and one woman. We bind every dark and unGodly scheme to change Your plan for marriage. We declare that Christian pastors will not be forced to marry same-sex couples. These couples are being convicted by the Holy Spirit to come out of darkness and receive the truth of the Word of God. We believe that our President and government officials are wise and avoid conflict with other nations because wisdom is better than weapons of war. The people of our country are not fearful of evil because we trust in You and You keep us safe. We decree that the gospel of Jesus Christ will be freely preached and taught throughout our land and the world. America is great because our God is great. We believe and receive what we have spoken. In Jesus’ name, AMEN! Scripture references: 2 Chronicles 7:14, Ecclesiastes 9:18a, Proverbs 1:33 MISSION STATEMENT We are a supernatural church, composed of supernatural people, doing supernatural things, in a 5-star manner. We are workers together with Christ, building and discipling people of purpose, power, praise, and faith through fellowship. WE ARE A LIFE SHAPING, WORLD CHANGING, TRANSFORMATIONAL MACHINE building strong families and their finances, while reaching out to the unsaved, the untaught, and the unchurched. We are receiving an abundance of miracles, an abundance of wealth, and an abundance of souls in Jesus’ name. Amen! Freeman Excerpts from, “Does Prayer Really Work,” by John Bornschein, Vice Chairman, 2014 National Day of Prayer Task Force Before we can talk about whether or not prayer makes a difference in our nation, we have to first address prayer for what it is and if it is making a difference in our personal lives. So, let’s jump into one of the greatest theological questions of all time. It was the disciples who inquired first, so you are not alone. While Jesus was praying he was asked, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John (known as John the Baptist) taught his disciples” (Luke 11:1). They could have asked him anything. They could have asked, “Lord, teach us how to turn water into wine” or “Lord, teach us to raise the dead”. No, they asked him how to pray and what he did was teach them how to build a personal relationship with God. Then and only then could they be ready to learn how to pray as a group with an understanding of what a solemn assembly was all about. Our goal through prayer must be to know God better, to experience the fullness of relationship with Him. Through prayer, we honor Him. We give something back to the Almighty, something He desires greatly. God reveals Himself to us in those quiet places where we cannot be distracted in our time with Him. The need to pray is as great as the authority of God, who commands us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)). Prayer is vital to all that God wants to do on the earth, and it is so essential to us, that He commands us to do it all the time. But the key to successful prayer is the relationship that develops in and through this interstellar conversation. Sometimes we just need to listen, while other times require focused intercession, even repentance, praise, and petition. If you want to know the will of God, it is discovered only through devotion to the Word through prayer. So, let’s pray as we have never prayed before and be united in One Voice. iv * Faith News * May 2014 * The Year of Double, Abundance, & Overflow “I need you, you need me, we’re all a part of God’s family. Stand with me, agree with me, we’re all a part of God’s body. It is His will that every need be supplied. You are important to me, I need you in my life.” - Hezekiah Walker I was raised in a home where the importance of family was overly emphasized. My father taught us that family sticks together. Regardless of what differences come up, you are to always be there for your brothers and sisters. That was pounded into us. The person sitting next to you, by virtue of both of you accepting Jesus Christ, has been washed in the same blood, making you part of the same family, whether you like them or not. God’s model for the church family is derived from our biological families. In 1 Corinthians 12:25-27, these passages describe how we are one body, but many parts, and how those parts support the entire body. “The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance. You are Christ’s body—that’s who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your “part” mean anything.” God never intended for you to function without a family. You were born into one family, but when you got born again you were born into a different family. Someone is supposed to teach you the values and the allegiances and the loyalty of family so it won’t be so difficult for you to get along with each other. Having someone connected to you makes you better, not less. A body isn’t just a single part blown up into something huge. It’s all the different-but-similar parts arranged and functioning together. If Foot said, “I’m not elegant like Hand, embellished with rings; I guess I don’t belong to this body,” would that make it so? If Ear said, “I’m not beautiful like Eye, limpid and expressive; I don’t deserve a place on the head,” would you want to remove it from the body? If the body was all eye, how could it hear? If all ear, how could it smell? As it is, we see that God has carefully placed each part of the body right where He wanted it.” (1 Corinthians 12:14-18). That’s what you’re going to have to decide. Did God place you here? If God placed you here, you’ve got to know that. If He has placed you as it has pleased Him, who are you to replace yourself when it displeases you? God set every part right where He wanted it to be. “An enormous eye or a gigantic hand wouldn’t be a body, but a monster. What we have is one body with many parts, each its proper size and in its proper place. No part is important on its own. Can you imagine Eye telling Hand, “Get lost; I don’t need you?” (1 Corinthians 12:1924). Your hand can be your eye’s best friend if you get something in it. The Bible says every part is important. Every creed, every nation, every people, every ethnicity. By the name of Christ, we are many members, but one body. That means Blacks, Whites, Asians, Jews, Latino – one people under one blood come together and are called brothers and sisters. “We are one Lord, we are one, by Your Spirit we are one. May our love grow, so the world will know, we are one in You.” - Public Domain The Year of Double, Abundance, & Overflow * Faith News * May 2014 * 1 Bible Study Calling Those Things That Be Not As Though They Were Assistant Pastor Dewayne Freeman Jesus says, in Mark 9, that nothing will be impossible to the one who believes. There are two places where you can believe, in your head or in your heart. If you are not sure where you are believing, check out your words. Your mouth will let you know. What are you saying about your situation? Are you speaking words of faith by calling those things that be not as though they were, or are you simply speaking [believing] what you see and waiting for Jesus to work it out? If you fit the latter category, then you are believing with your head. When you believe in your head that is called hoping. You hope He will work it out. You hope He’ll heal you. You hope He’ll make a way. Faith says, “it’s already worked out.” Believing with your heart allows you to see things from a different perspective…a greater perspective. This is a position of knowing! Jesus also tells us that whatever we desire when we pray, believe that we receive them and we’ll have them [Mark 11:24]. The key is believing that you have received at the time that you are praying. Don’t walk away from your prayer hoping that God heard you! That’s believing with your head. Right in this moment, if you are experiencing sickness or disease in your body, you can call yourself healed! The healing power of Almighty God will come upon you and drive that sickness and disease out of your body. That’s how you call those things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Do you know the story about the lepers in Luke 17:14? The lepers cried out to Jesus to have mercy upon them. Jesus saw them and commanded them to go and show themselves to the priests. Now, back in Jesus’ day, you did not show yourself to the priests unless you were already cleansed of leprosy. What did Jesus do? He called them healed even though they still exhibited signs of leprosy. The Bible says, “they were healed as they went.” Jesus was calling those things that be not as though they were. Life Lessons with Dr. DeeDee More is Caught than taught In 2 Timothy 1:5, the apostle Paul tells us who shaped Timothy’s life spiritually. Here he states that he is reminded of Timothy’s unfeigned faith, which first lived in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Apostle Paul goes on to say that he is persuaded, that this type of faith that Timothy’s grandmother and mother exemplified before him, now dwells in Timothy also. Lois and Eunice not only “communicated,” their faith to Timothy, but they also “demonstrated” their faith in God before Timothy. As mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or just women of God, our lives should always communicate and demonstrate our faith and trust in God to all those around us---especially to the younger generation. This Mother’s Day, and throughout our lives, let’s set ourselves to demonstrate our faith and love for God, in order that we may impact the lives of others. It’s important that we demonstrate our faith at all times even in the “pressure times”; when we think that no one is watching is when our greatest Christian witness will be revealed. Let’s make sure that what others catch from our lives is a true reflection of Christ. Our lives as Mother’s and Women of God (nurturers) maybe the only “Bible,” some people read. This is the principle from which God operated, Jesus also. It must be the way we operate, too. The Bible tells us in several scriptures that “the just shall live by faith.” Well, faith KNOWS that everything is already all right even when there are clear, visible signs reflecting otherwise. We must begin to “see” into that unseen arena and make the transfer into the seen arena by calling those things that be not as though they ARE. Remember, faith is now. Where are you believing? Your head? Your heart? 2 * Faith News * May 2014 * The Year of Double, Abundance, & Overflow Attend Bible Study on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at the location of your choice.” The Year of Double, Abundance, & Overflow * Faith News * May 2014 * 3 Congratulations Ministry of Helps Achievers of the Year!
