to BASS 2016!
The Lord says to his people,
“Build houses and live in them;
plant gardens and eat their produce.
Take wives and have sons and daughters;
take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage,
that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do
not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent
you…” –Jeremiah 29:5-7a
When the Lord God speaks these words to the nation of Israel
while they are in exile he is issuing a vision of what it looks like
for a people of promise to be displaced in other cultures. In
many ways that is what we who are followers of Jesus Christ
are called to do. We are not called to retreat, we are called to
engage. We are not called to abandon, we are called to invest.
We are not to sit on the sideline and wait, we are to seek the
welfare of the communities where God has planted us. That is
why our leadership team volunteers its time to make BASS the
best conference it can be – we want to help church leaders
become equipped to thrive in the places where God has called
us to serve.
Please know that our team of
volunteers is here to serve you in
any way we can, and we thank you
for being a part of BASS 2016!
For the Church,
Jeff Miller
BASS General Chairman
Lead Pastor, Redwood Chapel
An Important Word
About BASS Parking!
Parking at BASS is always limited. Taking public transportation
(BART) is advised (see page 4). If you plan to drive to BASS, please
follow these guidelines:
1. CARPOOL IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
2. Parking is available in the two Redwood Chapel parking lots and
in limited supply on the residential streets near the church.
3. When parking along the residential side streets, please make sure
you are not blocking the driveway of any of our neighbors. We do
not want to allow your car to be towed away!
4. In the parking lots, always follow the instructions of the BASS
parking lot attendants.
5. Keep the parking area closest to the sanctuary available for the
handicapped.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in this matter.

GENERAL INFORMATION
REGISTRATION
CHURCH REGISTRATION:
Registration is by church or as an individual and is good for attendance at
BASS sessions held on Thursday evening (March 3), all day and all evening
on Friday (March 4), and all day on Saturday (March 5). It does not cover
the BASS Pre-Convention Christian Leaders Seminar held during the
day on March 3 at 3Crosses (Neighborhood) Church. The church
registration fee is based upon a church’s average attendance of children and
adults during 2015. Registration packets are mailed to churches in January.
Registering as a church allows anyone from the congregation to register to
attend. To register as a church, registration materials must be returned to
the BASS Registrar (P.O. Box 2829, Castro Valley, CA 94546) postmarked on
or before February 26, or you may register as a church or individual
online. See our website: www.bassconvention.org.
TAKE BASS HOME WITH YOU—ON A CD!
We again welcome National Conference Recording Services from Arvada,
Colorado to BASS this year! They will be making CDs of BASS workshops and
general sessions.
National Conference Recording Services (NCRS) will be able to provide CDs that
can be picked up right at the convention, so you can truly take BASS home with
you for continued enjoyment in the days ahead.
• CDs will be available at the cost of $8 each.
• There is also a "Buy ten, get one free" special.
• For full enjoyment of this year's BASS, a full set special will also be offered.
Order forms are available at the NCRS table in the lobby. To avoid long lines at
the end of the convention, we suggest that you place your order early. CDs can
also be ordered after the convention via mail, phone (303) 807-1404, or the NCRS
webstore at www.ncrsusa.com.
If you have questions, call BASS at (510) 585-9914.
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION:
To register as an individual, the costs are $49 for the entire convention or
$5 for a general session only. Individual registration is good for attendance
throughout the convention from Thursday evening, March 3, through
Saturday, March 5. It does not cover the BASS Pre-Convention
Christian Leaders Seminar held on March 3 at 3Crosses Church.
NO CHILDREN PLEASE
While we obviously love children, in fairness to attendees and to those who
purchase CDs, we must recognize that the BASS convention is an adult
education event.
BASS DOES NOT PROVIDE CHILD CARE DURING THE CONVENTION.
Workshops do not have space to accommodate more people than
the number of chairs in the room. Fire regulations do not permit
strollers in aisles or blocking classroom doorways. Likewise,
distractions from children can prohibit the CD ministry from being
able to produce good, clear CDs. Therefore, we ask that you please
do not bring children to the convention.
MEDICAL POLICY
If a medical problem should arise during the convention, only selfadministered first aid will be provided (e.g., band aids). No aspirin or other
medication will be provided. For more serious emergencies, 911 will be
called.
FOOD
Meals and snacks will be available throughout the convention at the Redwood
Chapel site as provided by an on-site vendor, a catering truck, and by the
Redwood Chapel student ministries. You may purchase food items from them
or you may bring food and snacks with you to eat on the premises (no food
or drink in Worship Center, please). There are also numerous
restaurants, including many fast-food restaurants, within one mile of the
convention. Maps showing the location of local restaurants are available at
the convention Information Center.
BASS CAN ALWAYS USE HELP!
BASS can always use help in planning, implementing, and providing
assistance in many ways during the convention. If you wish to be part of the
BASS team, call (510) 585-9914 or e-mail [email protected]
and leave your contact information. We’d be happy to share with you ways
in which you can serve.

BART station, so we encourage you to take BART to the BASS

BART and BASS. BART passengers are picked up where private vehicles
pick up and drop off passengers (look for an A-frame sidewalk sign). The
convention drop-off/pick-up location is outside the door at the Information
Desk.
If you do not see a BASS shuttle van waiting at BART or at BASS,
please call 510-909-2622.

Mission of the Church
L. J. Jennings
To be effective as a pastor today, one must be able to
keep the message sacred but not the method. Hear
effective methods for ministering in 2016.
D7
Growing a Multi-Generational Church 239
Dr. Barbara Williams
Inter-generational ministries should mean more than
changing a few Sunday school classes and starting a
praise team. It should encompass all areas of
congregational life. Popular culture depicts a troubled

society. We can build healthy, mentoring relationships
with all generations.

240
Can Do About It
