Orange Community Education & Recreation is pleased to welcome you and
your family to Ohio’s most comprehensive and recognized community
education and recreation programs. We invite you to explore over 200
educational, enrichment and recreation classes and services featured in this
Fall brochure.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share with the community that
I will be retiring at the end of this July after 31 years of service to the greater
Orange communities and residents. I joined the Orange Community Education
& Recreation program in 1984-85 and had wonderful opportunities that
allowed me to promote the Orange Community Education & Recreation
program, handle the fiscal side of the organization’s operations, recruit and
train staff, develop new programming, as well as serving as the department’s
Director for the last 20 years. Working with the Orange City Schools,
residents and the communities has been gratifying and inspiring and I thank
you for that opportunity.
Erin Fach, our new Director, will begin his position with Orange
Community Education & Recreation on August 1. Erin served as the
Community Education & Recreation Director for the City of Lakewood, Ohio
for 11 years and also served as the Mayfield Heights Director of Parks &
Recreation. He brings a solid background in lifelong learning, recreation,
leisure programs and services as well as community education. Please
welcome Erin as he begins his new leadership with the Orange Community
Education & Recreation Department.
As always, we are looking forward to having you and your family
participate in this Fall’s activities and classes. We thank you for allowing us to
be your lifelong learning and recreation partner and we encourage you to
share your suggestions and feedback with us!
And again, thank you for a wonderful 31 years!

Muggle Quidditch
New! If you’re a fan of the Harry Potter series, you know Quidditch.
This sport for wizards and witches has been adapted for us Muggles.
Muggle Quidditch is a fast-paced game that combines parts of
dodgeball, rugby, and flag football. During the game, the Chasers try
to get the Quaffle (volleyball) through a hoop. The Beaters are
defenders trying to knock out other players by hitting them with the
Bludgers (dodgeballs). While all of that is going on, the Seekers are
trying to catch the Snitch by removing the sock from the Snitch’s
waistband. Everybody runs with a broom (pool noodle).

NEW! Paddle Board Yoga
Are you an adult who is
looking for a new way to
work out? This program
utilizes wide, stable paddle
boards that are tethered and
floating in the pool and offers
an exciting way to add a
playful challenge to your
yoga and flexibility
programs. Staying balanced
on the paddle board takes
focus and requires that you
engage your core and hips to
keep you steady and dry.
Although the goal is to stay
out of the water, participants
should be comfortable
entering, swimming and
treading in deep water.
Participants should wear
quick-drying, snug fitting
yoga or athletic attire that
allows freedom of movement. Open to all levels, beginners
welcome. Shaka Fitness owner/instructor Kelly Pierce is certified
through Paddlefit and Glide SUP for paddle board yoga.
Registration for this class will be taken directly through
Shaka Fitness:
Go to the www.shakafit.com and create a user name and password.
Choose a class from the schedule with Orange as the location, pay
for your class and select a board. A confirmation email will be sent
once registration is complete. Participants will also need to complete
a registration form at the pool on their first day.

SWIM TEAMS
The aquatics swim team program provides offerings for
beginner and intermediate swimmers. Ages vary, based on
ability, but beginners are generally ages 5-10 and
intermediate swimmers are generally ages 8-14. This

help children realize the discipline and hard work that comes
with being part of a team. Swimmers are encouraged to
attend swim meets as ability allows.

start in swim team. Children should be able to comfortably swim
multiple laps of the pool without stopping. Children should also be
competent in freestyle and backstroke and know the basics of
breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers who are not ready for this
program will be recommended for learn to swim classes. This group
will encourage swimmers to learn all of the strokes legally, learn
starts and turns, and improve endurance.
Practice times are below:
September 6-October 14: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 5:00-6:00pm
October 17-December 9 Monday-Friday 6:00-7:00pm
December 12-16 Monday-Friday 5:00-6:00pm

Spring Board Diving
This Learn to Dive program is designed to teach the safe and proper
way to use the diving board. Those enrolling must be able to swim

get individualized attention and can advance at their own pace. This
program will get divers ready to participate for the High School
Diving Team. Coach Morgan Srail coached for the University of
Buffalo Diving Camp and was a MAC champion diver on 3-meter

Community Involvement through
Service
The Orange Community Education & Recreation Commission is
an advisory council providing support and feedback so that a
varied range of recreational and educational activities may be
provided to area residents in accordance with the department’s
mission and the school district’s mission. Commission at large
and governmental representatives act as community liaisons by
sharing community feedback with the department’s Director and
leadership team and by encouraging the broadest possible
involvement of area residents in the department’s programs,
projects and services.
The Commission meets monthly, usually the second Tuesday of
each month at 6:30pm at the Pepper Pike Learning Center.
Residents are encouraged to attend or consider filling periodic
representative vacancies and may contact any of the following
Commission members with ideas and questions. Also, feel free
to contact OCE&R for more information on Commission duties
and responsibilities.
