30 Years of Empowered by the Spirit
PCCMA is pleased to announce this year’s theme for our retreat
conference will celebrate 30 years of Catholic Campus Ministry’s
guiding document: Empowered by the Spirit!

As we serve young adults concerned with the
varied relationships they encounter in social,
romantic, academic, and spiritual
environments, we must be prepared to explain
the connection between these relationships
and their spiritual development while being
able to aid them in their search for Christ’s
truth and offer them welcome in the Church.
At the same time, we ourselves are called to
“Come aside…and rest a while.” This year’s
conference retreat will offer engaging
conversation, prayer, roundtables, featured
presenters, and our keynote speaker, Father
Jim Bacik, who aided in creating Empowered
by the Spirit. Save the date, November 2-4,
2015 and join us at the Malvern Retreat Center
in Malvern, PA for a memorable, reflective,
reinvigorating, and educational conference for
your entire campus ministry staff.

Father Jim Bacik
keynote speaker
Father James J. Bacik is a widely-regarded theologian,
Father Bacik was a writer for the editorial committee which
writer, lecturer and pastor who served as campus minister
prepared the Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Campus
and adjunct professor of humanities at the University of
Ministry “Empowered by the Spirit” (USCC 1986).

Diocese of Toledo, ordained in 1962. He has his doctorate
in theology from the University of Oxford and has
published many articles and books, including
Contemporary Theologians, Catholic Spirituality: Its
History and Challenge, A Light Unto My Path: Crafting
Effective Homilies; and most recently Humble Confidence:
Spiritual and Pastoral Guidance from Rahner. He was
called “one of America’s finest, most insightful theologians,
with a remarkable capacity for clear writing and effective
teaching” by Richard P. McBrien, Professor of Theology at
University of Notre Dame.

MALVERN
RETREAT
CENTER
Owned and operated by the
Laymen’s Retreat League,
Malvern Retreat House is a
spiritual sanctuary with a longstanding Catholic retreat
history. As the oldest and
largest Catholic retreat house
in the U.S., you will bask in the
history and beauty of this
spiritual sanctuary, situated on
125 acres of land in Chester
County, PA. Our conference
retreat will be held in the
McShain-Horstmann Family
Life Center, which offers 50
climate-controlled rooms with
private bath, six of which are
handicap-accessible. There is
a large Chapel and
Conference Center, two
smaller Conference rooms and
a Dining Room. Malvern is
located just outside of
Philadelphia and is easily
accessible via car or by public
transportation (a 10 minute
walk from SEPTA’s
Paoil/Thorndale line), making
it ideal for those travelling
from near or far.
